The inside is rough but it still has all the Victorian inserts! The inserts are in really tough shape, ripped, water damaged but it’s all there. The entire drawer/insert comes out. Pity the people who had to move these monsters around, most are heavy even when empty! Wardrobe trunks have become more and more popular just in the last few years. Many are restored and then used in bedrooms of small apartments as a combination chest of drawers and closet. Most of them were made in the 1920s and 1930s with some going back nearer the turn of the century. Note how the upper part of the left half of the one above opens up to allow better access to the hangers. The two chrome rods in the same area telescope out to give the hangers more room when the trunk is open. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. It's that emotional connection that makes them so appealing to collectors, and will only increase the value of the piece in time. Which I did not remove. ... moreGermany and Scotland. Has a wonderful cloth pattern on the outside similar to L. Vitton trunks. Features 4 drawers and a wardrobe area to hang cloths. The drawers lock into place and are lined, wood on the outside. The top drawer has a key lock(not included) When you pull out the drawer, there is a leaver that you turn which unlocks the other drawers. The wardrobe side includes the hangers shown(5) and the top opens to ease in getting the hangers out. the metal slats for the hangers to slide out as well, however the right one is hard to push. Has a fabric cloth to cover the clothes from the drawers. This is a large heavy truck, but in pretty good shape for it's age and the number of trips it has taken over the years. The top(picture 6) shows the rip in the fabric. Has two tags on it. First is the Hartman Trunk co, Racine, WI. The other is on the corner and says Wasseman's, Grand Rapids, MI. That means this trunk went from the United States to Germany, then to Scotland and back to the United States. Measures 40" tall, 22" wide and 21 1/2" deep. Shipping is quoted with UPS. The heavy iron hinges and latches are reminiscent of medieval iron pieces. The interior of the trunk is in very nice condition and features fine natural wood. This trunk is still in spectacular condition because it was built by skilled craftsmen. It remains a strong and sturdy piece and has no real damage of any kind. It measures 49 1/2" long x 28 1/2" wide x 20" high. I believe the original latches were altered at some point, but the trunk is all original and will be a fine piece for many years to come. Excellent Condition It is in damage free condition with no chips cracks or repairs. Vase is 8 1/2" tall. The top ruffled opening is approximately 4 1/2" wide. The diameter of the purple base is 3 1/4" The numbers 2911 are etched lightly into glass. The colors are extraordinary. There is purple. Gold, blue, silver, and everything in between. Offering a great large metal antique trunk. It is wood grain metal with wood slat accents and beautiful metal cleat details all in very good condition considering the age of the piece. The lock is present but does not work and there is no key. There is one leather strap missing. It does have wheels on the bottom but they may need some cleaning to release their moving parts. The wood interior is a little rough but stable. Just needs some TLC. Please look at all the pictures to assess it condition and/or contact me with any questions. Up for sale is a very interesting Antique lincoln safe deposit company wood trunk. I am unsure of the exact age of the trunk but it seems to be very old. The trunk was stored with charcoal to keep it from getting moisture within. The label show it being by lincoln safe deposit company. And was used as a fireproof warehouse for people's belongings in new York city. Very cool part of history. Early Vintage Travelling Storage Wardrobe Steamer Trunk dates back to about 1910. 42" tall X 23" wide and deep. Cured genuine leather stretched over a sold wood frame. Yellow in color with a nice patina. All edges and corners protected by brass plating. There are 6 functioning ball type wheels on the bottom which allows the user to roll the trunk while flat. And an additional 2 functioning wheels allow the user to roll the trunk while standing on end and towing with the leather handle(picture shown) All metal edges do have some wear but this gives the trunk a great look. The locking hardware is functioning. And is stamped EXCELSIOR#4230 Made in Stamford, Conn USA. Excelsior began making this lock in 1910. The locking mechanism is controlled by the exterior latch which in turn stabilizes the drawers for travel(shown in picture) There ... moreis 1 key from the Independent Lock Co#1076 Made in Fitchburg. Mass USA(valued at $18.95 on Ebay) The interior fabric is a copper monochromatic damask which is in good shape considering the age(picture shown) Once settled at their destination. The traveller may lift the padded top portion of the trunk up using the attached hinges to reveal and unlock the hanging garments(see main picture) There are 5 drawers which feature the same copper damask on their fronts. And brown lining within(picture shown) The top drawer is missing the lock, the bottom drawer is missing the handle, and both drawers do have a little water damage. There are 4 original hangers(1 shirt. 1 pant, and 2 coat) These hangers rest upon a chrome bar which extends outward 18" to allow the traveller to peruse their garments and avoid wrinkling. The hanging garments are protected from dust during travel by a copper damask curtain that snaps closed at the bottom. Approximated weight is 85 lbs. Antique Jenny Lind Trunk Beautiful Restoration Circa 1860's to 1880"s Nice Rare
For sale today is a medium size nicely restored Jenny Lind trunk and the restoration turned out just awesome! I did not find any patent dates on the trunk and based on 40 years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1860's to 1880's which makes this wonderful old Jenny Lind a 140 plus years old- a true antique. Jenny Lind trunks are rare and in big demand. I have restored over 500 trunks in the last 40 years and this is my fifth Jenny Lind. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and it has a good wooden bottom. The wood has multiple coats of clear applied and has the three original slats on the bottom. It has the two original hinges that are tight, work well and the lid closes well. It has the original center lock, it has been polished, does not work and no key. For sale today is a very nicely restored large humpback trunk. I found two patent dates of 1872 and 1881. One was on the mechanical latches and one on the hardware which makes this neat old trunk as much as 133 years old- a true antique. This trunk has a presence to it. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the metal bottom is good. Has had multiple coats of paint applied and has the three original skids. The three original hinges are tight, polished, work well and the lid closes well. There is a new black leather lid lifter on the trunk. The lid stay is original. There are 45 pieces of polished original hardware on the trunk. The center lock is original, has been polished and there is no key. 40" Antique Asian Carved Camphor Wood Trunk Blanket Chest w/Dove Tail Corners
Gorgeous. Completely carved All over, vintage camphor chest. The largest I have seen at 40" long, 19" deep and 23.5" high with the feet attached, 19" without feet. Notice the fitted dovetail corners which gives rounded edges instead of sharp ones. Some signs of wear in the varnish consistent with age but it actually looks even better in person. The HD pictures actually pick out flaws you don't notice with the naked eye. It would make a beautiful coffee or accent table. It comes with original brass hard wear and the padlock/key. We are selling an antique pine trunk/ chest in its original condition.This trunk dates to about 1870s and still in good condition.There are five large dovetail joints on all corners. The cast iron handles are in very good condition. The end board on one side is a solid 13" wide plank. The pine boards are all old growth wood. The bottom planks have a few cracks in them as the pictures show. There are normal age wear nicks and bumps and dings. The size is 34" long. 16 1/2" wide and 19 1/2" tall. The lock is gone. Antique Beautifully Refinished Steamer Trunk Chest w/Straps, Key, and Tray
Beautifully Refinished slight arched Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key. Straps, Buckles, and Interior Tray Here is a really nice. Beautifully refinished slight arched top steamer trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. This steamer truck has a very slight factory arch to the top, which may be noticeable in the close up side view picture. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches, from floor to top is 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash outer slat boards. The wood is in nice condition and has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older distress marks including some older nicks and dings on the wood along with a few stress cracks. This great trunk has a nice ... moreamount of metal hardware. The metal is not brass and has been brush painted it by hand in black and gold leaf. A nice feature on this trunk is the original lock that does work and has a key. The front latches are also original and in good working condition since the springs are intact. This trunk has a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles running up the front and across the top and part way down the back in the same location where the original ones once were. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. They are sturdy. Going to the interior, there is a very nice wood interior and tray, which has been given two coats of polyurethane. This truck would make great lifetime lasting gifts for loved ones on special occasions. It seems to be quite fashionable these days to own one of these forefathers' refinished trunks. Antique Disney Doll Trunk With Dwarf Dolls
This auction is for a wonderful antique Disney doll trunk with Bambi on the front and it comes with two very old rubber Dwarves inside. It measures 6.5" wide x 11 1/4" long and it is 5.5" tall. The basic box is made out of wood with some kind of a cardboard exterior and there is a wonderful Bambi decal on the top. This old doll trunk has the neatest Paper lining on the inside with Disney characters such as Donald Duck. Mickey Mouse, Pluto, etc. This lovely old Disney trunk has brown plastic handles on each end and it has marks, dings, dents, scratches, gouges, lots of wear, rust around the red metal corner pieces- it has a few ripples, it has a musty smell inside, etc. but even so it is a fantastic collectible doll trunk and it is a beautiful piece of the past as well. I did not find any patent dates on this trunk and based on 40 plus years restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1890's to early 1900's which makes this neat old humpback as much as 114 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid. Has multiple coats of paint, three original slats, four original metal whee and the trunk rolls freelyl. The three original hinges are HD, tight and the lid closes well. There are 30 plus polished pieces of original hardware. The Eagle center lock is ... morepolished and there is no key. The mechanical latches are polished, HD, fancy, tight and work well. The original tray is long gone and the interior has been removed. The metal/tin is in VGC. The lid stay is original to the trunk. The lid lifters are built into the mechanical latches. There are 12 solid oak slats in a golden oak color. New black leather handles were installed with the original end caps. This lovely old flat top is 37W. 21 3/8D, 24 1/4H and weighs 44 lbs. When packed and ready to ship this trunk will be 41W, 26D, 29H and weigh 56 lbs. Sharkskin is considered a type of coralene as far as we know. Joan Van Patten stated in her Nippon books that rare is the collection that has a Sharkskin piece in it. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE APOTHECARY WOOD CABINET CUPBOARD FILING BOX CHEST TRUNK BOX* Up for sale is this awesome wood three drawer plus top drawer apothecary filing cabinet cupboard. On the outside of this cabinet is red paint with white porcelain knobs. The top drawer measures 18" wide x 9 1/2" deep x 2 3/4" high. Also in the top cabinet you can see there is an old lock inside the drawer and then outside you can see where the key would have gone- it has been painted over. We do not have the key. The three bottom drawers measure 9 1/2" deep x 16 3/4" wide x 1 1/2" high. Total cabinet measures 19 3/4" wide x 11" deep(not counting the knobs) x 12 1/4" high. It weighs 14 lbs. On the front of the bottom drawer there are two holes- they do go through to the other side. I'm not sure what this was for- ... moremost likely a name plate of some sort or maybe an old handle. In all three of the drawers inside- in the back of the drawer there are holes that go all the way through. The hole is also inside the top drawer under the lid. This was likely to lock the drawers. The person would have a rod(not included) that would slide down from the top and lock each drawer in place. Then. By locking the lid with the key(not included) the entire cabinet could be locked up safe! It may have been for a shop owner or perhaps for someone who kept valuables in their home and didn't want any sticky fingers walking off with their goods! Once the cabinet was all locked up, it was easy to carry without losing the drawers by grabbing ahold of the nice brass handles on each side. This is a great size cabinet that could be used for many things! There are some paint spills on a couple of places. Chips, scratches, and holes but it does not take away from the beauty of this cabinet. Great for many uses! The red paint appears to be old but don't think it is original to the piece. Great piece! Up For Auction: Antique Child's Doll Travel Trunk With Original Decals All Over The Trunk. Well Traveled. Flew American Airlines. Paper over Wood With Brass Handles and Locks. With the Original Key. The inside is clean and is cardboard and wood. The only real damage from wear is on the top; you can see the bare wood on the right hand corner and below that. You can see that in the picture. Someone put a piece of red tape on the left hand corner of the top because it was probably torn. The box itself is quite old and in very good condition for its age; for what it is made out of. It could use a cleaning. Measures eight and a half inches wide. About six and three quarter inches tall. And fourteen inches long. The box is being sold as is. In the condition stated as in. Trunks of this size were first sold in the very late 1700's and early 1800's. But really didn't become popular until about 1810. Dome-top trunks became popular with travelers beause their shape required that they end up on top of the trunk pile. The domed surface made it all but impossible to stack another trunk on top, so these would usually go on top of the pile. This was very important- it meant your trunk be unloaded first upon reaching your desitination, so you could be on your was before the rest of the passengers. Known as'hide trunks' these were popular with tavelers of the day and were made by small shops, saddlers, and blacksmiths throughout the eastern United States. The make. According to the label, was Robert Burr, who operated in Boston for several decades. Hide-covered trunks like yours were often made by saddlers in varous towns and places all up and down the eastern seaboard. a basic wooden box was constructed, and then a wet animal hide, usually horse hide, was stretched over the box and nailed in place with copper or brass tacks. As the hide dried it would shrink a little, which made the wood joinery come together tightly, adding strength to the trunk. The owner's initials were often set in into the top of the trunk with decorative tacks, and hand-forged handles were added for ease in lifting. The style is a round top Saratoga trunk type and I have an old catalog advertisement from 1891 showing a similar toy Saratoga trunk. I'll include a copy of that. The wood is in beautiful condition and the original lock works well, key included! It's very hard to find these with a key. This delightful small trunk came to us from an estate auction out in the country. The outside seems all original but long ago the interior was painted in a cream color and handpainted with leaves and flowers. While we like things to be entirely original. This restoration is just right-nothing fake looking about it. My guess is that the cream color was done 60-70 years ago. There is considerable rust on the lock and the outside metal. Antique Trunk - Camelback, humpback 1870s - perfect for restoration - LARGE
This a is beautiful old 1870's camelback tin/wooden trunk that has not appeared to have been restored. Everything looks to be in the original condition. One latch in the back is still attached. The other one is not attached together but still on the trunk. The leather handles are not attached. There is even a bonus braid of old long hair in the trunk. It is obvious, on the pictures and in person, where trunk is coming apart, but appears to be easy enough to fix. The lock has a marking of"PAT" MAR 69" with some other letters"A? see picture) The latches on the front have a nice bird figure, the leather attachments on the side look to have a starburst type design, and the original paper border is on the inside with the pictures. No names appear to be written anywhere. All four wheels are on the bottom and work. This trunk ... morejust needs some TLC to be a beautiful piece once again. Antique Early Oak Immigrant Wooden Trunk "VERY RARE" reduced
Up for offer we have an early blonde antique wooden immigrant trunk. The trunk measures 57 1/2" long by 26" wide and is 26 1/2" tall. While woods are not my forte` we have a consensus that this is white.Blonde oak. Weighs a ton solid in construction and has aged nicely. It appears to have been lightly varnished and the varnish is consistent. This piece has a floral top lining can be easily removed. Dates 1800-1820. All Original hardware with the exception of the interior lock( missing) is intact. The handles are there and solid to lift. The piece must have stood on a wall as the back is not varnished and it considerably darker(dirty) than the rest. Sorry could not get a picture of the bottom as it is loaded with tapestries at this moment solid and secure to say the least.
