But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. A bit rough. Someone removed the lock portion of the main latch. It is an unusual double latch design. The compartment lid inside has broken and been repaired. Corner wear, some surface rust and oxidation. Leather handles broke off and were replaced with some very heavy duty brass handles a long time ago. The brass handles appear to be quite old. One of the cast strap clamps is broken yet all there. There is some damage to the tin clad skin. Original lining is cracked and torn in places. It appears to be all original with the exception of the handles and has not been painted(painting these trunks takes away from their value significantly) I'm sure I'm missing something so please look at the photos carefully and ask questions! Item is available for preview with appointment. I personally would leave it an unrestored original yet it could be restored bringing its value up. This would make a great display piece in your store, business or home. It has a covered hat/ glove compartment in the lid. Hardwood slats. The inside of the lid has the 2 original color chromo-lithographs; one depicting a man pushing a wheelbarrow with a woman and 3 children inside and the other is a woman pushing her daughter on a swing with a smaller picture of what appears to be ice skaters. The information below gives you information about the company and vintage era about this ... morecedar chest. Cedar Chest by Ed. Roos Co. The Ed. Roos Co. manufactured quality cedar chests from about 1916 to 1951. Most of those years they were located in Forest Park. IL. They were very successful for a time and made a large quantity of cedar chests. Because of that they are not particularly scarce. They are, however, of very good quality and were manufactured in quite a few styles. The style and condition are the determining factors in value. The Art Deco"waterfall" style. It is. However, in better condition and would be worth about $200-$250. The"Roos Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was established in 1871 by Edward Roos(born in Germany in December 1848) Died in 1906. He had several children including Otto(born 1877) and Edward(born 1880) Otto took over the Roos Manufacturing Company when his father died in 1906. They did manufacture cedar chests, but it is unclear when they started. The business began making curtain rods and later wooden boxes. They used a rooster in several variations in some of their logos. The"Ed Roos Company of Forest Park" started in Chicago as the Roos Cedar Chest Company in 1916. And also manufactured cedar chests, but it is a different company. They used a tree(presumably a cedar tree) in a circle as their logo. There are also other logos without the tree, and one with a heart for their"Sweetheart" chests. They also used a variety of paper and cardboard labels. It was started by Otto's brother. Edward. The company moved to Forest Park, IL in 1918 and changed its name to the Ed Roos Company of Forest Park In the 1920 federal census. Otto Roos is listed as President of a wooden wares business. So it is clear that the original Roos Manufacturing Company was still at work in 1920, after Ed Roos opened up shop in 1918 in Forest Park. Overall size: 14" wide x 9" deep x 10" high On the exterior there is some loss and wear to the printed paper here and there. Both leather handles are broken but still there, and the paperboard trim that goes around the lid is detached at one corner. I see some light moisture stains to the paper as well. The wooden slats could use some polish. Overall the condition of the exterior is above average compared to the majority of unrestored trunks like this one. No key for the trunk. And the lid half of the latch doesn't have the part that would attach to the bottom part where you put the key. Inside. The ribbon like support string that holds the trunk upright when open is detached on one end, there is a panel type door missing from the lid, there is a tear to another lid panel, and there is a panel type door missing from the till and the one that is still attached to the lid is loose at the paper hinge. This is an interesting old tool box(or maybe sample case? But it is in VERY ROUGH CONDITION! This box is about 21" long, 7 1/2" tall(8 1/2 including the handle) and about 8" front to rear. It is a metal clad wood box lined with paper(very much like some of the trunks of the period) The paper is in fair condition, but it is dirty. The tray is about 20" long, 4 1/8" front to rear and 1 1/2" deep. The box and tray are actually quite solid, but the bottom is in VERY poor condition. The hinges are in good condition, but their mounting hardware is a little loose. The latches are also pretty good, but the plate with the lock has been removed(it is included, but mounting hardware and key are missing) This item appears to have spent many years sitting on a damp floor. This box has that old grease and oil odor, you probably wouldn't want to display it in your house at this time. Although the bottom is very fragile you could use this as a static display, if you are going to transport it with heavy contents you will certainly want to repair or reinforce the bottom. I am unsure of the age. Maker and origin of this trunk. To the best of my knowledge and research, this is from the late 1800's. I am not an anique collector or dealer. This trunk was covered with a paper covering that can still be seen due to the remnant of the paper covering still on the trunk. This chest appears to be all original and has a nice flat top. The interior of this chest is still lined with its original paper which is pretty worn at the edges. This is an antique trunk that I purchased over 14 years ago from an antique dealer in CT. It has raised metal sides. I believe they are tin. The inside has fabric and a hidden trap door. It is a really cool and if I had room I wouldn't part with it. I used it as a coffee table. The measurements are approximately 30 1/2" long X 17 1/2" wide X 20" high. It would serve well as a coffee table as it is-it's a perfect medium size. It's made from solid oak with a warm medium oak original. Patinated finish. The lock parts are original but a portion of the hasp is missing. This chest is in good antique condition, especially considering its age. Marked Vulcanized Trunk on top This steamer trunk is in really nice shape. Straight from an estate sale- the trunk would make an excellent living room coffee table! It is green with very nice blue cloth on the inside and has the drop in clothes separator: Usually these are missing and this one is in nice shape. It is 26 inch high- 30 inches long(across side to side) and 22 inches deep(front to back) solid and the bottom is not rusted through at all(in fact in very nice shape) I bought two of these and plan on keeping one of them. Antique Steamer Trunk -made by Belber - interior excellent
Huge and very nice trunk that is black in color and is marked BELBER as the manufacture. The brass colored corners and the latch is marked Corbon Cabinet lock- it is 40 long(side to side) 23 inches high and 22 inches deep(front to back) Overall very cool and has two containers for clothing- one is damaged but both parts are there. It is black paint( that is alligatoring(paint slightly bubbling) but is great and would make a really nice coffee table for your living room! The bottom is not rotting and in fact is in excellent shape(photo shown of the bottom with two wood runners)

RMS Lusitania Cunard Line Antique Steamer Trunk Odd Tray White Star Will Ship
This is a steamer trunk. Circa turn of the century- The incredible part is that it was on the Lusitania! This was found in the attic of an old house in Waterbury. Connecticut. I did a quick search of passenger records to try and match the"H.A.B. initials to a passenger- there were many of them- this trunk most likely came from Sweden as it has a Gothenburg travel sticker. If you are interested in trying to research the original owner. I can provide the winning bidder with the address where it was found and also the name of the previous owner of the house. I have not identified the maker of the trunk. But it does have diamond-shaped logos on the latches. It is shown as found. But I will give the interior a vacuuming on request. One side has a travel sticker for the Lusitania. A Cunard Line sticker and two more Cunard Line checked baggage ... morestickers. The opposite end has a small travel sticker for the White Star Line- it did fall apart a bit. But the other part of the sticker is in a plastic bag in the trunk. The trunk has four small wheels on the bottom. And it does still roll. The tray is also included, and the tray has a very unusual piece in it- a round cloth ball on a housing(about the size of a cantaloupe) and a small steel device. It does have what looks like some grease around the area. I've done a lot of looking. And haven't found a similar one. The trunk is missing some parts of the leather handles and the lock is not working. Both latches function very well. Trunk measurements are 36" by 22"by 24" Shipping weight is 65 pounds. A very unusual trunk. I was able to find only two other trunks from the Lusitania in existence- one is in a museum. Nearly impossible to find another one. I will ship internationally by FedExFreight. All original 2-tone paint, has a couple minor dents and a lot of scratches, wheels show wear and a little rust, one wheel is made out of wood(they did a really nice job making it) Has all hubcaps, wooden wheel hubcap has 2 screws holding it on. This was really a great find.a turn of the century Late Ottoman Turkish or Middle Eastern inlaid with mother of pearl walnut chest or dowry or blanket box. The pattern involves stars and other geometric shapes and some carvings that resemble birds and it is in very good condition. Patina is beautiful and finish is original. The base is an interesting combination of incised lines and inlaid mother of pearl stars on a reticulated base. It is all hand dovetailed. Height = 19 5/8" Length = 33 5/8" Depth = 16 5/8" Add a piece of glass to the top and have the perfect coffee or even side table. 17th/18th C. Antique Tibetan Storage Box Trunk Dragon Motif
Genuine antique storage box/trunk from Tibet. Dates to the 17th/18th century. Storage box is made of wood with iron accents. It is covered in a thin cloth layer on parts. Front is painted with dragon motif and geometric design floral border. The front has been relaquered to the preserve the painting at some point. Which is typical of even the most old pieces of furniture in Tibet. The piece is 100% original and intact. There are rips and pieces of missing of the cloth covering in places(see photos) and lots of general wear and tear(small amount of insect damage, some iron fittings are fractured, and two iron pieces are resecured by nails. A medium-sized Victorian steamer trunk made of wood, trimmed with tin and steel hardware, and featuring a flat lid. Two chestnut colored leather straps cut from cowhide 1 1/4" wide by 8 inches long. Thickness is 1/4" Four brass plated metal strap ends. 1" long split head brass tacks to nail the leather to the trunk. Tacks are to be placed two per end under the position of the metal strap ends in a verticle position for best attachment. Form the permanent handle loop to suit before completing the nailing. Split head tacks 3/4" are to fasten the metal strap ends. Offering an antique. Wood tramp art box. This one is unique in that is has a lift out tray. I just fell in love with the brown antique paper it is lined with and the lift out tray. It reminds me of those antique trunks for dolls. This has a pin cushion top, so it was intended to be for sewing, but one can use this box in any sort of ways. I was never really conscious of this fact for many years, but I just love boxes. The older and more one of a kind, the better. I think because it reminds me of childhood, and tiny things, secret little treasures, which could have been just a trinket, but to a child's mind is the greatest treasure in the world. I also love tramp art because each item is one of a kind, and therefore unique. This one has acorns on the side and a monogram. Inside is also a mirror. I apologize for the bit of the mess in my ... morephoto background, but we have had some room re-arranging going on in our home. The box does have some discoloration on the fabric on the pin cushion but it could be dust that has collected over the years and maybe all it needs is a gentle cleaning. I have included photos of all the sides, top and bottom, and interior for your consideration. You can use the magnifier also, to get a nice close look. It is all intact, and the hinges are intact, but the hinges seem to me to be a bit fragile and the box needs to be used properly by an adult. I bought it for myself, but after getting it home and it's also summer vacation, the lightbulb came on that this box probably won't survive in this house. Small Antique Doll Trunk Original Paper and Tray Clean & Sturdy
Small flat top doll trunk. Covered with paper in a brown and black wood grain pattern and accented with red strips along the edges. The basic trunk is made of wood and still very sturdy, however the paper covering on the outside shows some wear along the edges, but the paper itself is still very well attached. It has a lock on the front but no key for it. One of the leather handles is broken. The 2 hinges on the back are in very good shape. This little trunk still has it original tray, covered with paper in a beige solid color with some minor wear as well but it is clean and does not have an offensive smell. It measures 10" across the front, 5.5" deep and 4.5" high. Antique Pink Milk Glass Molded Dresser Jar Figural Tree Trunk Base. This lot features a lovely molded pink milk glass jar in the shape of a tree trunk base. I don't think it had a top as the rim shows no evidence of having one(use) Marked on the bottom"Made in US of America" Measures 2 1/4" tall. It has no chips. But a couple of firing cracks from the rim(see pics) Still tight and quite lovely. Sells as is without reserve.

1860's Jenny Lind Antique Doll Trunk, Porcelain Tacks
Square-sided Jenny Lind doll trunk. Professionally restored including 28 porcelain tacks resting on ornate brass. The dimensions are 12 x 7 x 7. Outside has been lightly sanded and hand-rubbed with tung oil. The trunk has brass dust cover strip, original handles, and brass lock(non-working) The inside has been covered with cloth reflecting the era and has a small print of old-fashioned ladies on the inside of the lid. This is a beauty restored by an expert. I personally have never seen a Jenny Lind with porcelain tacks. It is a very beautiful and unique trunk. Please ask questions or for more pictures. ANTIQUE (1845) OVAL WOODEN CHEST TRUNK HAND-FORGED IRON HARDWARE
Striking antique. Oval, wooden lock chest with hand-forged iron hardware. It has the date"1845" carved in the underside of the top with initials ZH and ZVSV stamped on the top and on the underside of the top. I am unsure of the origin but the area of Germany/France has been suggested. The chest was clearly built with the purpose of keeping its items secure, perhaps for traveling or shipping purposes. The chest is approximately 20.25" wide, 15" deep and 12.5" tall from the bottom to the highest point of the dome top. It weighs approximately 14 pounds. Being an old chest. It shows expected wear. It is overall very solid but does have its share of dings, scuffs, and some minor loosening of the iron band and wood bottom trim in a couple of areas. Antique 19th C Wood Box Trunk Linen Chest Brass Lionhead Handle Orig lock no key
Up for auction is an antique 19th C small trunk or linen chest recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is found in good used condition but has many surface scratches to all sides as well as having some wood loss. Photo 9. We are not sure if it was for linens, small furs, or what but it seems too large to be a glove box. This measures 11.75 x 23.5, an unusual long and thin table top size. This is 9" tall. This is missing an original nut on the handle. This has brass reinforced corners. A very nice pice in a net size. Best of luck in bidding.
