The chest is made of solid rosewood. And not veneer, and is finished on all 4 sides plus top; with a cedar lined inside. The style is classic with subtle Asian touches evident in the brass latch hardware. And the feet of the chest. There are no carvings. The hardware is solid brass. It has a classic look. Never goes out of style, mixes well with modern or traditional decor. Could be used at the foot of a bed, for a coffee table, a TV stand, and many other uses. Condition: a few minor nicks and scuffs. But overall very good to excellent. No water stains. There is some minor shrinkage to the floating panels(top and sides) that seems to self adjust with more humidity as the weather changes. I am not the original owner but was told the chest was purchased at Marshall Fields in the 1950s. I do not have a receipt or any written confirmation of this. For sale is a very rare antique steamer trunk. The trunk is very large and completely covered in brown leather. The leather has some cracks but for 150 years old. The leather is considered in good shape. There are rolling wheels on the bottom and wood slats on the top. The top also had the words"warranted sole leather" imprinted in the leather. This trunk also has possible ties to historic NY(brooklyn) politician JB Wass, who was a consultant to president Ulysses S Grant. If you search the web you can find reports sanctioned by Grant where JB Wass made recommendations on locations of illegal liquor distilleries in Brooklyn) The side of the trunk has personalized label complete with name and address. The inside of the trunk had an incredibly rare drop down compartment with a green envelope type thing attached with gold trim decoration ... moreand logo. Again you will not find a trunk like this. With a history and such an ornate design anywhere. It could use a restoration or would be a great conversation starter as it it stands now. Nice Antique Canvas Trunk with Antique Clothing
This is an incredible find! It is an antique travel trunk with some antique clothing inside and it seems to be made of canvas over cardboard? and it has an ancient leather(broken) handle on the top(and there is also a strip on the bottom) and some leather pieces on the corners as well(one is missing. The inside is paper lined on each end and the cover is too- and then the canvas is on the rectangular bottom and on the cover as well. It measures 22" x 11.5" and it is 8" tall. It has the most wonderful look to it and I was told that it is from the late 1800's but I don't know that for sure. It is in amazing condition for its age except it has discolored with age. It has some soil spots, marks, gouges, dings, lots of wear, rust spots, tears, water marks, etc. but even with all of these things that I have mentioned it is ... morestill a very beautiful piece and I can't say enough about how beautifully it displays. It has a wonderful red, white& blue American Express Co. decal on one end and it looks like someone wrote Belfast on it and then there is a label with a hand written name on it with very beautiful writing but it is hard to tell what the name is. Antique 1877 Camel Back Embossed Tin Trunk
I get the date 1877 from almost every latch and hinge which are dated Oct 23. 1877. Also, the locking mechanism is a"Star Lock Co. and dated 1877 as well. This is a previously owned trunk. And I do not have the history on it. I do not know the manufacturer. Condition is good, with age and wear obvious. Particulars include, but may not be limited to: No key. Slats are repainted. Pink, interior card board compartments have loose lids, one lid is missing, one wooden divider is missing. One leather handle is gone, the other has been removed and each handle is now a piece of painted chain. Easy fix) obvious dents in the tin, some leather hinges on the interior tray are broken or missing. I first noticed a"basement" smell to the wood, but it has since gone away, Some water damage to one side of bottom of trunk. My assessment. Condition ... morefor a trunk well over 125 years old is very good. It has obviously received at some point a kind of"home made" restoration. The bet news is. Almost everything is present minus one lid for the interior tray, and the key of course. I would recommend a box of baking soda to take what lat little bit of odor away that may be present. Otherwise, it is either a fairly easy restoration, or good enough to go if one doesn't mind it as is. I measure the trunk to be 29" by 19" by 17" Weight is around 32 lbs. Antique Victorian 1800's Wooden Dome Top Trunk Old Lock Original Finish Description: Antique Victorian 1800's Wooden Dome Top Trunk Old Lock Original Finish ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Offered is a great antique wood dome top trunk. It has the original finish and great old hardware lock. Purchased at an antique auction it dates to the mid to late 1800's. The inside of the trunk is lined with layers of antique newspapers dating to 1865. Great old advertising. The newspapers are not in the best of condition and are hanging in some areas and falling apart. I have left them as they were found because it does help verify the age of the trunk. Most people will want to remove the paper and clean the trunk. You may be able to save some of the newspaper and advertising. The trunk measures about 11 inches high. It is 11 inches deep(front ... moreto back) and 21 inches side to side. It is in good antique condition. There are imperfections as would be expected. Marks in the wood here and there and there is a slight separation of the boards on one end as shown in the photos. Please refer to photo#5. The lid of the trunk has a separation in the boards; please refer to photos 7& 8. An unusual lock which I am not familiar with. It has a small lever which slides over the opening for the key and this does stick a little; it should loosen up nicely with a little care. I do not think all of the lock is there; it appears there should be another piece on the lid. As I said I am unfamiliar so I am not sure; just using my best guess in regards to the lock. Please refer to photo# 6. There is no key. Wonderful old trunk. It looks great displayed and would be a nice addition to any collection. This trunk is extremely old and is being sold for the purpose of someone who can restore it. Much better condition than it is. in other words the trunk looks better than it does in real life) The outside of the trunk has several different faded colors. The leather handles on each side are ripped at the center. It is dirty and needs to be cleaned. The inside has a few sections that can be removed. Set of 6 wooden hangers from an antique wardrobe trunk from the early 1900's. They are in need of some TLC. But will be great for anyone restoring an old trunk! The first picture shows the whole lot. The others include close ups of the wood hangers. Showing their condition. They all measure around 18" wide& 8" top to bottom. Some of them have a little damage on each side as shown it the photos. They came from my old antique steamer trunk that I don't have anymore. I forgot the maker of the trunk. But it was marked made in 1913. Check out the photos& ask any questions. Antique Dome Top Hump Back Pressed Tin & Wood Slats Steamer Trunk Herringbone
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique 1870's dome top/ hump back steamer trunk covered with pressed tin in a herringbone/ basketweave pattern. The wide tin mixed in on the edges has a pattern of tiny diamonds with dots in the center. The lid has curved hardwood slats and lots of heavy tacks holding all of the metal in place, the tacks are most likely brass plated. The previous owner painted it a shade of dark rust/ reddish brown so you will probably want to refinish it- it looks as if it could be sanded down to the bare metal and wood because the paint isn't very thick.We believe the metal handles seen in the photos are not original to the trunk, they were probably replaced with the black metal handles whenever it was painted. The handles should be leather and if you'd like to replace them(as well as the metal brackets that ... morehold them) you can find them reasonably priced at any trunk restoration site on-line(they even sell them here on Ebay) The trunk measures approximately 31" long X 20" wide X 24" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats and all of the metal on the trunk look to be in good condition. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. The key is missing and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two small metal lever-action clasps that keep it closed tightly in front. These are a tight fit and probably need lubrication but you can still get them to open and close. These clasps are stamped what appears to us to be' PAT MAY 1875' The inside of the trunk is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining- the lid has just a hint of the original chromolithograph and the border. Offered for sale is this exquisite German Black Forest wood carving"Squirrel on tree trunk" The squirrel is grabbing a little animal on its left front claws and the right front claws are grabbing the trunk. The tree trunk is surrounding by some leaves. Tree fern and rocks. The piece has one or two leaves damage and some old worm bites, overall it is in excellent condition for age. No signature and the exact age unknown, probably 1900's or so. The trunk is hollow on top, it size about 2-1/2"in depth. x 2-3/4"in diameter. It can hold a candle inside but this is too good to be a candle holder. The piece measures 6-3/4"H x 7-1/2"W x 6"Deep. The piece is heavy nice wood. Up for auction is a remarkable refinished antique steamer trunk circa 1890-1895 in fabulous condition. The trunk comes with its original tray which has been fitted with a new wood bottom. The interior of the trunk has been completely cleaned of its old coverings. The wood sanded, stained and sealed with 3 coats of sealer. The old musty smell is gone replaced with a new finish scent that will disappear over time. The sealer was water based so not nearly the odor is left inside. All the metal on the trunk has undergone a three part process to bring back luster but still retain the antique character of the piece. The newly exposed wood exterior of the trunk has been sanded, stained and sealed with multiple coats(i lost count) of a high grade oil based sealer which resulted in a furniture like finish which will stand up,with care, for many years. ... moreNew premium grade leather handles were installed and end caps re-installed just as the original were with with nails turned back into the wood. The bottom of the trunk was cleaned, a rust inhibitor applied to the metal, then primed and everything sealed. The lock on this trunk is original. It is an Excelsior lock made in Newark NJ and the key locks it with a nice click. This trunk was originally sold by the Charles William Stores which was a mail order house located in New York City. This company was in operation before being bought out from 1860 to sometime in the 1920's. The original metal tag identifying the store remains on the trunk. On the tag is a registration number identifying the owner and states if the trunk is separated from the owner, contact(write in those days) the store and the name of the owner will be known. Quite unique for the day. This just a great antique trunk and can be displayed proudly in any home. It measures 32 inches long by 20 inches wide by 23 inches high. The lid has a slight arch. This is one BIG Vintage Trunk! It was made by Besbilt Trunk Company In Newark. N.J. USA Trunk No. 83117 It has a plate so if it were ever found you could contact the company and they would get in touch with whomever purchased/lost it. It measures 26" high x 40-1/2" wide x 24" deep. This trunk could be restored or used"as is" with all its character! Would be a great wide screen TV stand. End table or just hanging around for extra storage. I would say someone has added some paint to the outside. But it is rather industrial looking. The leather handles on both ends are missing. Hardware is in good condition. Corners are awesome! Sorry. No key. Hinges are nice and tight. Latches on the front work great. Inside has the usual wear and tear. But a lot of the fabric is intact. Antique White 1800's Camel Back Steamer Trunk
I picked this at an auction and as I carried it to the truck a gentleman who appeared in his mid 70s stopped. He wanted me to know that his great grandfather immigrated from Europe in the 1800s and used this trunk to carry his items on the ship that brought him over. I love the stories and was glad that he stopped me. It is painted white and has been for a long time. It is solid. Sound and in great shape. Even the leather handles, which typically rot off, are BOTH in place. The inside, as you can see from the photos is beautiful complete with a drawing of a young woman. Desirable small size"Camel" Barrel Top Trunk. Fully Restored. Unknown Maker. Very similar to a 1909 trunk catalog reference, available from current owner. The interior is lined with white acid free paper and wheat paste was used as the adhesive. This is how it would have originally been done in circa 1900. The insert is original and recovered in white paper. The bonnet or hat compartment and parasol compartment lids are fiberboard as original. The lock does not work and key is missing. Period 18th Century Antique Carved Oak Storage Chest Trunk - RARE
This is a rare pre-1800 period oak chest or trunk. The chest features hand chiseled carvings or motifs on the front followed by a scalloped edge base. The chest has mitered corners along with hand forged hinges and nails. The lid braces were hand hewn and have distinctive worm holes that come with theses century old pieces of furniture. It is a wonderful old piece which reeks of character. The chest measures 351/2" by 13" and stands 16" tall and is in excellent. Early 1880s Chas T. Wilt Bevel Top Antique Trunk
Normal 0 Chas T Wilt Trunks made some of the most striking trunks. And also some of the finest constructed. This is one such trunk. A bevel top travel trunk. This was originally covered with leather, but due to the condition I had to remove it. This trunk has been carefully sanded, stained and clear coated with Tung Oil. The slat clamps are Chas T Wilt's own design(Aug. 29 1876) and latches(Patent C.A. Taylor 1878) are both made of cast iron, and much of the original Tin coating survives. There is no silver paint on this trunk. The unique Nickel plated lock works great, and a key is included. The trunk measures 30" long. 18" wide, and 22" high. The handles are original, and in excellent condition. The ornate interior tray comes complete with 3 half dome compartments, and a covered combination hat box and set up tray. DOVETAILED 24" LONG 10 1/2" HIGH ANTIQUE TRUNK REMNANTS OF EARLY GRAIN PAINT
Offered for auction is a wonderful early 19th century dovetailed dome top trunk with remnants of original grain paint. The trunk retains that wonderful"musty" odor antiques acquire over the years. I just love it. And it is a further indication of the age of this wonderful trunk. This wonderful, solid trunk measures 23" in length, 10 1/2" in height, 12 1/4" in width and is in good, solid, used condition with no holes or breaks. The bottom of the trunk is constructed with one solid piece of wood. The newspaper which lines the interior is original to the trunk and as expected shows staining, some wear, and minor damage. There are articles listed in the paper which dates the paper to 1832. There are small areas on the exterior of the cover, mainly on one edge and the very back side of the cover(photos 4& 8) which ... moreshows areas of wood filler used to protect the cover. This was done years ago and thanks to this care the trunk remains in very good condition for it's age. There was a small repair made to the area on which one hinge is attached(photo 10) This is a early repair as well and due to this repair the hinge is sound and solid. As you can see from my photos there is wear to the wonderful grain paint which covers the trunk. This is due to age and normal use. ANTIQUE FLAT TOP TRUNK - Refinished, Large, Gorgeous, and Heavy
Up for auction today we have a lovely LARGE refinished antique steamer trunk. Dating to the late 1890’s early 1900’s. It is the box style, with a true flat top, perfect to use as a table, or for plants and magazines. The inside was paper lined but was stripped of the paper and sanded smooth. Trunk comes with the original tray, which was also stripped and cleaned up very nicely. I love it when trays are intact and make the trunk more desirable for keeping items organized. Nice front lock without key. Originally canvas covered, the brownish tan canvas was removed to highlight the gorgeous wood underneath. Wood is nice and smooth, and a lovely honey pine color– on the lighter side. Metal hardware has not been repainted and is in great condition– has been coated with Polyurethane and clear Shellac. The brass decorations on this trunk are great, ... moreand lovely front hinges in working order, please see all photos. Bottom has been cleaned and is solid- no rust. Nice small castors on the bottom. A nicely made trunk. With a weight of approximately 50 pounds. More treasures from Grandpa's garage. He use to restore trunks in the 1980s. Still stored in his shop are some misc items. This auction is for TWO pieces of tin sheet embossed with a floral design. This pattern was popular in the 1880-1900 era. Both pieces are in very nice condition. With a few small holes from where they were nailed. the larger one is 18.5x9.5 inches. other is 5x9 inches.
