This is a mates chair and although it have those little stubby"arms" it is not to be confused with the actual captain's chair of this style that has much longer arms. These were produced for a number of years by Ethan Allen for a few of their lines including Traditional and Early American. There is no damage to the chair and only a few tiny dings or scratches from normal use. There is very light wear to the very tip of the top rail and tip of the"arms" All the joints are nice and tight. It is in the popular nutmeg color and the finish is very good. It has been thoroughly cleaned and polished with butchers wax. It is 29 1/2" tall with a 17" seat height. The height of those stubby"arms" is only 25 1/4" so these chairs can be tucked tightly under the apron of most tables. Leaving more floor space in a smaller dining area. As for the chair it is very comfortable due to the great formed seat work that Ethan Allen was noted for in all of their lines from this period. It is constructed of maple and built to last for generations. As always, feel free to ask any questions and I'll get right back to you. Look at the back. it is detailed wonderfully with all kinds of carvings on the detail back. They have seven contour slats in the back to follow the contours of your back. The arms are held up with four support spindles on both sides. Even the front chair crest rail is there, which is usually missing. The overall condition is nice untouched.

Facing the chair, it has a linear crack in the seat on the left hand side, and the front joints stick out 1/8 inch; on the right hand side, there is a crack in the wood where your left hand rests; about 10 tiny drops of white paint on the seat and back rest. Each of two leaves is 12 wide extending it to a generous 78 inches long. Arm chair is 40 inches high at back. Seat 20 wide x 17 deep. Side chairs 40 in high at back, seats 17 1/2 wide x 15 deep. All seat heights 18 inches. I'm not an antiques dealer. This is a family heirloom from my Grandparents home. I am the second owner. I wish I knew more about it. Vintage/Antique? Victorian Dining Table and Six(6) Chairs- needs work
Vintage/Antique Victorian Dining Table and Six(6) Chairs- needs work This dining set belonged to my mother. But I would imagine that she purchased it at an antique auction at some point. She used it in her dining room for several years, but for the last one year it has been unused and in the barn. I do not know the age or history of the set, and I do not know for sure what kind of wood it is. I think it is oak. The six(6) chairs include five(5) side chairs and one(1) captain's chair with arms. The five chairs are 40" tall to the top of the back. 18" wide across the front of the chair, 15.5" wide across the back of the chair, and the seat is 18" deep. The captain's chair is 20.75" wide across the front and 17.5" across the back. Otherwise it is the same as the other chairs. All chairs need new upholstery ... moreand new seating but structurally are fairly sound. Decoratively they have some issues with the scroll work which I will attempt to describe. I have put paper numbers in the seats of the chairs to help me remember which ones are which. In one picture, I showed a close up of the top front of chair number six because it has the most damage of them all. It is missing some scroll work and the wood is faded out and dry with some separation of the veneer layers in the top of the back of the chair. None of the other chairs have this much scroll work missing and the condition of the wood on all the other chairs is in much better shape than this particular one. The captain's chair has a small amount of scroll work coming off. Chair#2 has some scroll work missing at the top front, a chip in the veneer at the top back, and a small amount of veneer separation. Some of the corners in back are a little scuffed up as well. Chair#3 has scroll work missing at the top, a chip in the veneer and a small chip on the side of the chair. Chair#4 has some scroll work missing and a chip in the veneer at the top back of the chair. Chair# 5 just has some scroll work missing. Again, none of the chairs

The overall condition of this set is very good. THE ONLY ISSUE I SEE IS ONE SPINDLE ON ONE CHAIR. UNDERNEATH IS CRACKED-IDENTIFIED BY THE PIECE OF TAPE. IT COULD BE REPAIRED EASILY, AS IT IS A LENGTHWISE CRACK AND FITS TOGETHER VERY WELL. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE. I do not know the maker or exact date this set was made. It is antique and is NOT perfect. Imperfections are described, others are part of being an antique. Which often times, is more desirable(eye of beholder) not be perfect. Measurements are 33 1/2 inches tall, 16 1/4 inches side to side and 20 1/2 inches front to back per chair. The weight is 10 lbs 3 oz approximate weight of each chair. Offered here are the remaining 5 chairs from a large set of antique American Empire dining chairs. The chairs retain their original Roman numeral markings on the front inside of the seat support. This was a large and elegant set of chairs. Made, possibly in New York state, ca. 1830- 1850. These chairs are strong, sturdy and are ready to use. They measure 32" high. The seats are 18" high. Each seat measures 14" deep by 18" wide across the front. Each slip seat has been upholstered with needlepoint, which I would guess to be from the 1950s. The needlepoint background is a medium mocha or beige color, while the floral center motifs are each a different, but coordinating pattern of flowers. These seats are in very good antique condition showing no stains or rips. The finish on the chairs is OLD, but smooth and silky feeling. ... moreThere is one repair which I noticed, which is a repair to the moulding which secures the slip seat across the front of one chair.
