What's so cool about this ... morewardrobe trunk is that it has features that so many of the other wardrobes you see don't have or they're missing! Also. It was restored approximately 20 years ago and is still in good condition. You may want to repaint or reline the trunk to make it your own, but you don't have to worry about a bunch of repairs because they were already done. For example, the metal trim was not brass and so it was painted. It could easily be repainted to suit your needs. As for the unique, original features, the trunk includes: a wooden ironing board, metal bracket for iron, a pull out holder for the ironing board, 6 wooden hangers- one of which holds a cloth laundry bag, a removeable wooden box(holds shoes.lap desk? and 4 drawers- among other features. It's missing the outside lock and original leather handle(handle was replaced with a strong leather buckled handle) The key to the inside lock, the narrow flat bar that slides in front of the drawers, and some material behind the drawers. Some of the material is faded. The hinges and drawer pulls are secure and in functional condition except one outside latch(this doesn't prevent the trunk from closing tightly. The metal rods that hold the hangers extend out to hold the ironing board and are easy to slide in/out. All the drawers are lined with material and are in good/clean condition. The top drawer is divided into three compartments and is in good condition. The two middle drawers are in good condition too. The bottom drawer is deep and has a shallow pull out tray which exposes a cool feature. The feature is a sphere shaped cloth form that straps to the side of the drawer with leather. The original leather is still in place and functional. But somewhat brittle. My guess is that a hat could be pinned to the form to keep it safe for travel. In some old catalogs, these trunks were called"packers" and the"steamer" trunk actually referred to a trunk that is often called a cabin trunk. There is a sticker on the top of the trunk that indicates that this trunk traveled on the Grace Line SS Cecilia sailing to New York. The Santa Cecilia was built in 1913 by William Cramp and Sons. The upper door panels are split and the back legs are thin but other than that it shows only typical wear from use. Measures 42-1/2" tall by 24" by 23-1/2" Black composite sides with metal lacquered trim, brass Yale& Towne Mfg Co lock, with two replacement keys(not original) The lock works smoothly. The exterior leather handle is intact. The initials"J.G.T. are painted on the slightly rounded top. A brass plate reads"Made Expressly for Mandel Brothers Chicago, Ill. In days gone by. These were used while traveling by rail or ship. It has 5 lined drawers with metal pulls on the right side of the trunk. Some drawers are divided and some have ribbon attached to the sides to secure the drawer contents securely. On the left side, the top of the trunk lifts upwards for better access. Metal bars unfold and then pull out to store clothing conveniently on original wooden hangers. There are 4 full suit hangers, 4 jacket/shirt hangers, and 2 tie hangers.
