The maker of this piece is unknown and we believe this dates to ... morethe late 1800's- early 1900's. The dresser stands approximately 36.5" high. The width is 21 5/8" and the length is 46" The mirror is made from solid mahogany and has a beautiful broken arch pediment at the top with an applied carved design in the center. It measures 35.5" high to the top of the pediment. The width is 24 7/8" across the ached top and th emain body is 23.75" wide. Made from solid mahogany the dresser has a classic Chippendale style design with applied carved moldings on the bracket feet and reeded columns on the front. The dresser has four drawers with a divider in the top drawer. The drawers are all dove tail jointed and also retain the original brass pulls. The dresser appears to have had an early refinish job done on it. There are age and use appropriate scratches and dings on the top and feet. As well as a small white spot on the top. There is a small crack on the top left edge. There are also what look like fingernail marks behind the pulls. All of the drawers are tight on this piece. This is a structurally solid dresser. This is a previously owned item and it is being sold as shown. Please view photos carefully and feel free to ask questions. Vine motifs are delicately carved and wooden pegs secure the joints. There are various losses and shrinkage separations from two centuries for antique character. See photos. Gracefully arched doors have original wrought iron hinges. The old finish is very well preserved. It has been waxed and buffed so that all that is needed to preserve its soft luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. A large working lock is about 100 years old but not original. We don't really know the origin of this awesome piece of furniture. But the previous owners said it was an antique. I don't even know what kind of wood it is, but it is all real wood(NO press board, etc. It's clear from the workmanship that it was made in the days when quality mattered. Regardless. It is big and beautiful. It can be used for anything, but it is currently functioning as our entertainment center. That is what you see here in this antique wardrobe. Made in England around the year 1910, it is a gorgeous piece that provides storage for a variety of needs. This wardrobe features two doors with oval ... morepanels and three drawers. Inside the right door is a variety of hooks and a fixed wooden shelf while the left door houses a taller open space with a rod. The three drawers slide easily and are made with dovetailed drawer joints. The left door and all three drawers lock with the one included key. The key does not work for the right door. This armoire comes apart in three pieces(crown. Large center section, and base) for easier shipping and moving. We are giving this piece a good condition rating. It is sturdy and solid and all of the doors and drawers function well. There are some minor cosmetic issues to point out. The left door’s oval panel appears to have been replaced. The top right corner of the crown has some small damage. The left side of the wardrobe has two age separations(the right side has one at the base) and an old scratch. Also on the left side is some very slight damage to the inlay on the crown towards the back. Preserving lots of ding and mars for antique character. Inside are carved wooden and iron clothes hooks. Shelves or a closet pole could be installed if desired. Interior depth is almost 16. Doors have hand chamfered panels and a working lock. The large lower drawer has hand cut dovetail joints. Cut square nails are visible everywhere on this American made furniture. Stunning Antique Salesman Sample Oak Wardrobe / Armoire Miniature
This is a truly wonderful antique salesman sample wardrobe or armoire. The piece is crafted in oak. Primarily quarter sawn, with iron strap details. It is meticulously made. Every aspect of this object is charming and exacting down to the tiny knobs and escutcheons. Note also the detailed side panels and the charmingly executed faux bottom drawers. It retains its original mirror which shows loss to the leading that only add to the authenticity and beauty of the piece.The interior is also beautifully done and fully finished and reveals supports for an interior shelf and rod(sadly not in evidence, if in fact they ever existed) This is the finest salesman sample I have ever had the pleasure to discover. It is a rare and wonderful antique that I have no doubt has been loved and displayed and moved and bequeathed and inherited. Words do not do ... morethis justice. Now to the nitty-gritty. So that there is no disappointment: As evidenced in the photos, this has a wire attached to the back as it was displayed on a wall. In the course of that display, perhaps someone painted the ceiling as there are small paint dots on the top which I'm sure could be removed with fine steel wool. This probably was re-shellacked 75 years ago or so as there is evidence of drip marks down one side. The teeny tiny brad that attaches the front right foot is gone. The doors can be temperamental in staying closed but work wonderfully when the piece is level. And generally, please refer to the pictures as they describe this better than words. It measures approximately 14 1/2" high by 9 1/4" wide by 4 1/4" deep. It is simply lovely and beautifully executed. Please ask any questions you might have. Additional photos available on request. French Carved Walnut& Burl 1875 Antique Armoire. Hand carved in France about 1875. This amazingly detailed armoire is solid French walnut with intricate burl panels. Every kind of carving is artistic on this historic piece with columns. Shell and Gothic motifs. The old finish is very well preserved with golden patina and just enough mars at the edges for antique character. Waxed and polished, all that is needed to maintain its warm glow is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. The interior is 19" deep and empty. A closet pole or shelves could be installed if desired. There is slight warp to the doors, see photos. Original lift off hinges and the elaborate lock still works with a key. Antique wood armoire closet hutch. Both door panels are hung with quality decorators material, set up inside for hanging clothes and an upper shelf, 2 lower drawers, had been painted in the 1940's and was peeling so it was stripped down and refinished in a light finish in the late 1980's, very nice unit, if you want it shipped you will need to arrange and pay for such, circa pre 1940 I am not sure of it's exact age but it was my grandmother's and she had it when my mother was young over 70 years ago so it is likely older than 70 years old.
