The Aesthetic design is carved into the box and accented with gold and black paint. The top of the cover has a 3 ½ by 5 inch tiger maple oval plaque with the initials“TBL. In the photographs you can see a shrinkage crack. Which goes across the top of the cover. I can also see where there once was a strip of molding around the bottom edge of this box. Thi s lovely table features Cabr iole style legs with incised carving on the front and sides ending with scrolling fee t on original casters. The wide apron holds a solid waln ut top. Having one leaf. The table will expand to seat 6 n icely. The table has been refi nished at some time, yet has t he beautiful me llow look of 150 yea r old walnut. Very solid and sturdy the table is missing brass hooks that w ere on both sides. There is a chip of wood missing on one edge and a small chip on top where the table g oes together. All of these character marks h ave been shown in the pictures. All pieces are stampe d with the number 4053. There is one stitch that was split when the basket was made and it is near the bottom and does not interfer or detract at all. The basket is made from split white oak and the darker oak strips were dyed with natural walnut stain. It measures 8 inches tall. And to the top of the handles it is about 12 1/2 inches tall. The table has a burr walnut veneer on both the top and the underside of the table which is an interesting feature. Its legs retain their original brass caps and pivoting feet. One of the legs is a replacement but this can only been spotted by the different coloured foot. Unique Rare J. Eastburn Chistian Huygens Rope Drive Tall Case Walnut Clock c. 1700: Up for bidding we have a beautiful antique J. Eastburn tall case clock. Exquisite piece that I will try to describe as accurately as possible. Base. Trunk, and Hood: Outstanding condition. The case as a whole is made from walnut with the door formed from a solid piece of crotch walnut. The grain of the wood is very well preserved over the total case. Four columns frame the hood, which tops off in a classic broken bonnet style. The center finial I doubt is original, as it should be brass associated with time period.still not a glaring issue. Front glass does have a crack on the upper right side of the plain. Im pretty confident that the case was refinished professionally in the past. Works: Now here is where it gets really interesting. The face is made from ... moresolid brass with dark roman numerals on the dial. The name is J. Eastburn which is directly beneath the"VI" in the dial. The center of the dial is a simple painting of a snow covered landscape with a bunny sitting on the west side. On the bottom right are the initials"A.C.D.E" and the date March 26. 1700. I have done research on both the initials and name and came up empty handed. Under the saddleboard, the date of 1700, is carved or burnt in the wood. The brass works are in tact and are operated by a continous rope drive(the rope obviously is not original) Wood pulleys hold one lead weight and a smaller one made of wood. This type of drive is attributed to the inventor Christian Huygens(1629-1695) Overall a great piece of history that would complement almost any decor. Any questions or more pictures desired. We obtained this piece from a party who had spent a considerable sum on having a coat of paint applied in the very early 20th Century removed without gouging the table or disturbing its original finish. This process is truly a time consuming art form and something we would ... moretake on with great trepidation. What this party lacked was an expert antique furniture woodworker. A asset that we are truly blessed in having. Sometime in the 19th Century, after this treasure was pulled out of a Colonial home or a Barn, the hand cut Butterfly fasteners that seam the top boards together fell out from shrinkage. This caused a seperation in the top planks which was addressed by someone inserting 18th Century screws through the top to fasten the boards down but failed to close the seperation correctly. We purchased this table several months ago and have been like expecting parents waiting for our woodworker find ample time to perform the museum grade restorations(while we are constantly interrupting him with emergency repairs) by re-installing hand cut butterfly fasteners(called"Ducthmens" in the restoration trade) and then cured the screwing of the top by the installation of walnut dowels which now fasten the top in addition to the original period screws that come up through the table's interior frame box. It was made by the Hamilton Manufacturing Company of Wisconsin. The item is not in their catalogue. Which indicates that it is one-of-a-kind. The basket bears the metal label of Hamilton. It is authentic. The basket measures 23 1/2 inches high x 12 3/4 inches wide x 11 3/4 inches deep. Hand-made of solid walnut. Hinged top with foot release.
