This is an old vintage hand hewn barn beam that came from an old barn in West Branch. Michigan. The barn was constructed during the end the late 1890's. This was my fireplace mantel in my old house and I no longer have a need for it. It measures a little over 11 1/2 feet long. As can be seen from the photos, some areas are square and some areas a live edge. It does have an old coat of varnish applied over 30 years ago. The beams were upper supports and mixture of handhewn and sawn wood. The knee braces are STILL PINNED IN PLACE! This is what makes these unique. Historic Hand Hewn Log Cabin. This 1800's story and 3/4 hand hewn log cabin was the Dalton trading post before it went through several iteration as a residence. It measures roughly 18' 8" x 20' 8" It has German style dovetailed corners. Hewn logs, hewn rafters, hewn floor joists and substantial flooring. Typical log faces range from 12" to over 16" The cabin has been professionally dismantled, double tagged and log location drawings and photographs have been produced. The logs are in good hard condition overall(amazing considering the age) with only a few needing attention. These could either be removed from the new design, reconfigured, rejoined or replaced. Although the main structure was all pegged or dovetailed joined construction. The flooring was fastened with wrought nails(samples included) Although ... morethe flooring is not hand hewn, some shows sign of being from a very early vertical mill. All has a great patina from years of use. All external nails have been removed although. As with any historic structures, some broken off or buried nails ends should be expected. There is evidence that a portion of the cabin's logs came from an even earlier structure. A common practice in the period. The cabin has unusually high ceilings for the era and a great look. It would make a great candidate for reinstallation. Consolidation into a smaller cabin or as part of an even larger building. Although a bit nice, you could also part it out or mill it into some great lumber or facing. Cabins of this type and condition are getting hard to find. This one has a lot of potential. Beyond the documentation package. The cabin will also come with an artifact package of items discovered during dismantling. Hand hewn logs from Ozarks log barn
This is an early to mid 1800's log barn that was covered by a conventional barn around 1900. Located in the Missouri Ozarks. Logs are hand hewn oak approximately 6-10 inches in diameter. There are two sections approximately 18ft x 18ft square and 14 logs high. One side of the log barn has been exposed and several logs are rotten. But three sides have remained covered and logs are in great shape. Some of the original shaker shingles that have been covered with tin is now exposed. Price is for entire barn both log and conventional. Will take a decent offer for whole or parts. The barn has not been dismantled as of yet.
