I found these at an estate sale in an old barn along with another pair I restored that I have listed right now. Rich, warm, wood tones would go very well with most decor. They are circa 1950 skis, serial number 823 and the length is 6' 11" ... moreThe brand name is ALPINE with Dovre-Kabel bindings. They were covered in dirt and dust and the hardware was tarnished and had started to rust in many places. I really liked that a good bit of the original paint remained and that the owner had painted his initials on the tails of the skis so. I decided to restore these and keep them as original as possible but make them look really sharp. I removed all the hardware and sanded the wood with fine grit paper. Removing some of the finish and grime but, being careful to retain what was left of the original paint scheme. Someone years ago had recoated them with varnish and I removed most all of that. I then sprayed them with several coats of hi-gloss lacquer which I hand-rubbed between coats. This brought them back to life, yet retained their vintage paint scheme, look and the majority of the original finish and paint. All the metal hardware. Original screws included, was then sanded, steel wooled and polished, which took several hours. The bottoms of the skis were sanded and sealed with three sealer coats, keeping the original paint on the bottoms. In all, I spent about 8 or 9 hours plus materials restoring them so, most of the pric

Restored, antique fireplace mantels salvaged from an old plantation home in Central Georgia. Each mantel is made entirely of red oak(no veneer) and dates back to the 1880's. The lower half of each mantel has a fairly straightforward design with a few accents including a turned. Tapered column on each leg; a carved starburst motif above each column; and chamfered edges on both sides of each leg. The upper half of each ... moremantel has 4 shelves(2 long and 2 short) a recessed panel in the center contoured with egg and dart molding and an oval opening for a mirror; 2 turned. Tapered columns with a carved plinth block in the middle; and a lovely crown with curved ends. Glass: One of the mirrors was missing. And the other had very little silvering left. They will need new mirrors(flat or beveled) which we could order and install for you. If you would like a bigger mirror, we could remove the whole panel(the area in between the ornate molding) and install a rectangular mirror. The mantel was covered under many layers of paint, and some parts were broken or missing(mostly decorative appliqués) We acquired the mantels in pieces. This facilitated the stripping process. Penn Antique Restoration. 63"x50" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Exquisite. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has an exquisite Victorian style design. Each leg has a round. Tapered, half-fluted column with round base and ornate capital. Notice the carved acanthus leaves on the capitals, and their reeded sides-what great accents! The body has lovely acanthus and volute motif in the center sitting atop a stepped ledge with dental molding. The crown molding, directly below the shelf also has steps and dental detail. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish. The body is made up of 2 boards, and the 2 boards separated from each other at some point(see photos under"Prior ... moreto restoration" In order to thoroughly remove the paint. Stain and finish, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! We rejoined the 2 boards of the body. And most of the applied carvings are intact. However, there are some pieces missing including a volute. Penn Antique Restoration. 48"x87" Stripped Antique Victorian Oak Fireplace Mantel. Spectacular. Antique mantel salvaged from a historic home in old Victorian in Southern CA. It's made of solid, riftsawn oak and is divided into 2 parts: the mantel and the overmantel. The mantel has thick. Bead and reel molding bordering the outer edges of the legs and the opening. There are 2 curved corbels with reed and bulls-eye carvings below the shelf. The overmantel has one. Large opening in the center for a mirror, flanked by 2, smaller beveled glass mirrors. There is a shelf above each mirror opening. Notice the beautifully-turned balusters connecting the shelves-what great accents! The 2 smaller side shelves are quarter of a circle in form and the single, center shelf is rectangular. The center shelf is adorned with a lovely, miniature ... morebalustrade. Directly above the center shelf is a recessed panel with stepped molding. The overmantel is topped with 4, ball finials, each with a lovely, carved, horizontal reed in the center. Stripping: We acquired the mantel as you see in the photos. Someone stripped about 95% of the mantel and 65% of the overmantel. We could finish stripping the mantel-email us for a quote. Condition: The mantel is in great condition and only has the typical character marks of pieces over 100 years old: scrapes. Scratches, tiny nail holes, and small chips. Someone made 2 repairs we would like you to be aware of: 1) hole in the lower. Left corner of the left leg was plugged with solid wood(see 2nd"Mantel" photo) and a piece of the outer, right corner of the shelf must have broken off, and was glued back on(see last"Mantel" photo) The repairs are good and will blend in once the mantel is refinished or painted. There is a little wear to the wood and finish in the front medallion on the arm but it's not a big deal at all. Just mentioning for accuracy. Orange velvet may not be your color but it sure would be chic and gorgeous in any fabric you chose. Very good condition however there are a few light spots on the fabric. Looks dusty and could use a little cleaner. I had another one just like it as I purchased two at the same time. I used a little upholstery cleaner on it and it looked fantstic. I sold that one quickly and held onto this one for me but it's not going to happen. It's been in storage for a while and may have a slightly musty smell. Penn Antique Restoration. 55"x48" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Magnificent. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has a wonderful Victorian style design. Each leg has a fluted and reeded pilaster. Notice the curved. Upper portions-what great accents! Directly above the pilasters are 8"x8" nooks with lovely, turned balusters in front. There is a raised panel with carved floral motif along the back wall of each nook carved. Spanning across the body is a series of carved, flowers in bloom. The chamfered sides of the shelf also nice Victorian accents. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish(see photos under"Prior to restoration" In order to remove the paint. ... moreStain and finish in the corners and hard to reach places, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! Condition: The mantel is in great condition. There is a small piece about 1" H. Which broke off of the lower, inner corner of the right leg, but otherwise, there are only small nicks, scrapes, and scratches in various parts of the mantel. Most will sand-out during the prep-sanding phase, prior to applying stain, or could filled with wood putty prior to painting. Refinishing: We have refinished several. This is one of the most impressive mantle's I've had. At first I thought it was primitive but it's definitely Victorian and called Stick& Ball. It was for a drafting firm. The bottom is a standard mantle front which we added a little interior lip to b/c our fireplace was a bit smaller. So you can fashion this around various sized fireplaces. Being offered for sale is this gorgeous Victorian Solid Tiger Oak Fireplace Mantle Surround with Full Corinthian Columns and gorgeous applied carvings.Ribbon trim and dental block moldings circa 1900. This fireplace mantle measures 78 inches in total height.66 inches in total width total depth of 12 1/2 inches, the actual mantle portion measures 60 inches wide by 11 1/4 inches deep. The fire box opening measures 36 inches in height by 41 1/2 inches wide and this piece weighs approximately 150 lbs. This beautiful antique mantle is solid and tight with no breaks or repairs we can find. The top of the mantle does show some surface wear of the finish. Antique 1893 Arts & Crafts Oak Ball & Stick Fireplace Mantle w/Tile & Cast Iron
Up for auction is one of the nicest Victorian Arts& Crafts ball& stick fireplace mantles I have ever come across. This mantle is marked 1893 and is made of gorgeous golden oak. This appears to be a complete fireplace mantle and surround pulled out as a whole. The salvaged tiles have wear marks that exactly match the wood surround and the same is for the cast iron fireplace cover. Everything matches up beautifully forming a complete mantle surround as it looking in what must have been an incredible Victorian. This is a rare surround from a short Arts& Crafts period and has wonderful details such as spiderwebs in the cast iron. And detailed leaves carved in the oak. There is a lot to see and describe and it is of the finest hand carving done at that period. This is a ball& stick design with turned spools and an upper and lower ... moregalleries. There are three shelves and a wonderful beveled mirror that fits perfectly and was professionally installed. The tile is a celery green and has cracks from removal but has been wonderfully mounted on a hard backer and is ready to install. This mantle would be a fairly easy project for a builder to manage. Every spool is original to the mantle and the refinishing done to it is a professional job. This is very similar to what it must have looked like new. Clean bright oak with wonderful carved details easily seen without age darkened shellacks that turn Victorian oak a blackish brown and suck the life out of the wood and the room. This is cheerfully celebrating the skill of 1800's craftsmen at the peak of their talent. Lastly. The cast iron fireplace frame and removeable cover is absolutely stunning. It has a hearth scene with a man sits with is dog and his pipe. To his right is a wife pouring water from a jug. At the bottom appear to be scene of children playing on wagons. This mantle is marked 1893 and is made of gorgeous golden oak. This is a rare-to-find complete fireplace mantle with tile surround and cast iron insert. It must have been pulled out as a whole. The original fireplace celery green tiles are of high quality(probably TRENT) tiles and have soot marks that exactly match the wood surround and the same is for the cast iron fireplace cover. The tiles were removed with their original mounting board that was installed with the mantle. Everything matches up beautifully forming a complete mantle set as it must have stood in an incredible 1890's Victorian. Art Nouveau was all about bringing nature into the home. ... moreHere you have leaf and pea pod vine design and carved tree forms in the columns. It is a brief period where conventional design was replaced by whimsical concepts. The celery tile color and oak woods all combine to bring nature inside the home. There is even a free-form carved tree decoration at the top that is SO unique! Imagine selling this concept to the homeowner's decorator! This is a rare mantle for sure! This is also a ball& stick design which was popular in the late 1800's with turned spools at the upper. Mid and lower galleries. There are three shelves and a wonderful beveled mirror that fits perfectly and was professionally installed. The tile is a celery green and has cracks but has been wonderfully saved on the original mounting board and is ready to install. This mantle would be a fairly easy project for a builder to manage. Everything fits perfectly together like a puzzle. The installer would have to build minor attaching brackets to secure this to your wall. This could be installed in hours.
