It is from an 1879 edition of Black's Gerneral Atlas of the World(Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black. 1879) a copy of the title page is included for authenticity. The publisher is stated in the bottom center margin. It is not matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as shown in the main pic, blank on the reverse. Overall, a very nice map that would frame up nicely. Size: The dimensions of the map area between the neat lines measures 16 by 21 inches(41x55cm) on a page measuring 17 1/2 by 23 1/4" 45x59cm) with a margin all around as seen in the main pic. Condition: The map is in Very Good condition with overall light tonal ageing and some darkening around the edges of the margin. Otherwise it is very clean with strong color on a heavy page, blank on the reverse. It is basically as seen in the pics, see the pic for more on condition. The pics are of the actual map. It is from the 1882 edition of Stieler's Hand Atlas. Published in Gotha by Justus Perthes. The publisher and date are shown on the map in the bottom margin and the name of the atlas is in the upper right corner. The map is not mounted nor matted. Being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. The Stieler maps are some of the most detailed of the 19th century in the German tradition of cartography. Size: The map image measures approximately 13 by 16 inches on a 15 by 18 1/2" page as seen in the pic with a wide margin all around for ... moreframing as seen in the main pic. Condition: The map is in Good condition with overall tonal aging and some darkening along the fold. Basically as seen in the pics.There is some very light browning around the margins as seen, otherwise the map image is very clean and would frame up well. It has stenciled hand coloring and outlining as issued, printed on heavy paper, blank on the reverse with a centerfold as issued. The pics are of the actual map. 1831 SDUK: Map of India (II) Madras Presidency & Mysore
Fine. Original, steel-engraved map of India(II) Madras Presidency& Mysore, by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge(SDUK) published as part of the Society's Atlas in 1844, in London, by Chapman and Hall. The SDUK began its map publishing project under the leadership of Captain Francis Beaufort R.N. in 1829, and published the maps in parts, haltingly, over the next 15 years, completing the series in 1844, finally permitting the publication of a whole atlas. Many of the maps were actually drawn by Beaufort, who at the time was the Hydrographer to the Royal Navy, and all were closely supervised by him. J. C. Walker worked closely with Beaufort in engraving the maps. Finely engraved, and carefully researched, the maps set a standard of excellence for commercial map-makers in England for decades to come. Augustus Petermann(1822-1878) best know for Petermann’s geographische Mitteilungen. The leading geographical journal of the day supplying the world with maps and information on newly explored regions around the world including the Arctic and Africa. His maps were certainly among the most accurate and detailed of the period and led the way to a new school of cartography often referred to as the"Gotha School. ... moreHis maps continued to be used and revised for years after his death in 1878 and his Mitteilungen continued until 2004. After 1865.
