Light minor age wear, overall very presentable and attractive[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] Cram was a prolific map publishing house who in the late 1800's was continually revising their maps for the profusion of titles they were producing. Many of these maps are. Upon closer examination, short-lived variants of others appearing similar. This is particularly true for those produced for his largest atlases, which were only issued for a brief period. These most expensive productions contained supplemental maps not found in the more common less expensive atlases, and are therefore more uncommon individually ... morethan they might initially appear. At the moment, they are largely unappreciated, undervalued and overlooked items of genuine cartographic interest. Good examples of this variant transitional Cram map category include the various city plans. Western U.S. state maps(which show defunct town's, early roads& RR lines, 1st appearances, etc. frontis& flag plates, overprinted maps(often with recent discoveries) celestial, birds-eye view& theme maps, island maps, etc. Therefore. This map would be of some potential interest to a collector. Sheet measures c. 13 3/4" H x 10 5/8" W. It is from the 1882 edition of Stieler's Hand Atlas. Published in Gotha by Justus Perthes. The publisher and date are shown on the map in the bottom margin and the name of the atlas is in the upper right corner. The map is not mounted nor matted. Being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. The Stieler maps are some of the most detailed of the 19th century in the German tradition of cartography. Size: The map image measures approximately 13 by 16 inches on a 15 by 18 1/2" page as seen in the pic with a wide margin all around for ... moreframing as seen in the main pic. Condition: The map is in Good condition with overall tonal aging and some darkening along the fold. Basically as seen in the pics.There is some very light browning around the margins as seen, otherwise the map image is very clean and would frame up well. Beautiful 1920 Stanford Map of South India & Ceylon
A single-sheet(no folds) map. Scarce 1920 Post WW1: India South and Ceylon Provenance Stanford's London Atlas of Universal Geography. Whitehall Edition. London: Edward Stanford. Ltd. 12, 13, 14 Long Acre, W.C. 2, and Whitehall House, 29& 30 Charing Cross, S.W. 1. Circa 1920. These maps are all originals and are almost 90 years old. I removed them from the atlas myself. Size/ Format In millimetres(and inches) Sheet: 370 x 375(14½ x 12) Map: 484 x 338(12¾x 10) These maps are printed on one side only of fine. Smooth paper, They were'tipped in' to the atlas so it was easy to remove them without damaging them in any way. Condition The maps are in Near Fine condition. There are no marks. Tears, or blemishes at all. They seem to have almost never been touched by human hands. They are definitely NOT ex-library. The paper ... moreis crisp and white. Remarks These maps will look great framed. Many are very brightly colored. The atlas documents the many territorial changes following World War 1 by providing an unusual selection of maps. A fine antique map from The Royal Atlas series by A.K. Johnston: INDIA(Southern Sheet) INDIA. SRILANKA, MYANMAR, MALAYSIA) Provenance The Handy Royal Atlas of Modern Geography. All these maps are guaranteed to be originals, at least 99 years old. Cartographer A. K. Johnston with additions and corrections by G.H. Johnston Size/ Format Sheet: 47.4 cm X 37.1 cm/ Map: 42.4 cm X 31.4 cm. These maps were all'tipped in' to the atlas. They are all printed on one side only on heavy paper. Almost card. There is a single fold in the centre of each map. Condition The condition of these maps is very good/ excellent. The colors are bright and fresh. The maps themselves are very ... moreclean. And the margins are generally clean, with the occasional thumb mark. These maps are more given than some to separating at the fold and a few of them have professional repairs to the back of the map.
