N. di 376,86 metri sul livello del mare; questa era infatti la quota altimetrica svizzera di riferimento, che si basava sulle Pierres du Niton, due massi che affiorano nel lago di fronte alla città di Ginevra. Prima del 1902 la loro altezza sul livello del mare era erroneamente considerata di 376,86 m. mentre è stato accertato che in realtà è di 373,6 m s.l.m.

1648 Atlas Blaeu Title Page Antique Old Book Print Map Engraving Genuine
A Title Page from an Atlas by Joan Blaeu. His"Theatrum Orbis Terrarum sive Atlas Novus" which was first issued in 1635. This example is from the 1648 volume IV, which contained the detailed maps of England and Wales. Therefore the central figure is Britannus, and the surrounding smaller figures invaders etc. Top left is Romanus, top right, Saxo, bottom left, Danus, and bottom right Normannus. All reminiscent of the title page of Speed's 1610 Atlas. Blaeus workmanship is considered second to none. And these Atlases date from the Golden Age of Mapmaking in Holland. Great care was lavished on these title pages, and this is evident here in the superb handcolouring, not least the use of gold which reflects the light. I hope my photos go some way to conveying this quality. This example is a proof copy, with no details in the central ... morebox, so the printed impression is particularly strong. The sheet measures 46cms x 28cms approx. And the image is 41cms x 24cms. Condition:In very good condition. Slightly browned but only as much as one would expect. The handcolouring is superb and strong. Examples similar to this one can be found for upwards of £400 in the big mapshops. I am starting this auction at the ludicrous price of 0.99p with no reserve. Very Rare Find!!! Hammett's Planisphere Showing Principal Stars. Early 1900s
This Hammett's Planisphere from the early 1900s shows principal stars visible every hour in the year from 40 degrees N latitude. This revolving printed star chart has a gold embossed faux leather look cover with cut out windows. It is made of heavy card stock/cardboard. The instructions for use and directions to find the principal constellations are printed on the back. It also says JL Hammett Co. Educational Supplies. Cambridge Mass, Boston Mass, Newark NJ. Made in Great Britain. This very rare find shows some wear from use and age, especially at the corners.I try my best to give full disclosure about the item and take clear photos to reveal any flaws, damage or signs of use. Vintage Antique Claw Foot Globe Base Japanned Copper Flashed Finish
For your consideration is a nice early claw foot base I believe goes to a fancy globe. The claw foot base has a 12" spread and stands 6" tall. The center hole is 1/4" in diameter. The The piece is complete with no chips or repairs. The cast iron does have light surface rust as shown but should clean up nicely. Shipping quote is to a street address in the lower 48 states. Scale 1:10.000 The Ranger Lunar Charts were created from the first close-up television pictures ever taken of the Moon by three American spacecraft. Ranger's VII, VIII& IX. They were designed to photograph selected sites at a continually increasing scale before crashing onto the lunar surface. Four of the six Apollo landing sites were chosen as a result of images taken by the Ranger spacecraft. Later missions further detailed these areas of interest until a specific landing site was determined and identified. There were seventeen maps in the RLC series. They were compiled and published by the United States Air Force ... morein 1966. Produced 48 years ago. In consultation with Dr. Gerald P. Kuiper(Author of the much heralded, Consolidated Lunar Atlas) and the staff of the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory. University of Arizona; maps like these represent the first real attempts to identify and detail the lunar surface for initial exploration. One day maps like these will command a handsome price in the collectables market as the first of their kind. the original maps for lunar exploration. The 1:1.000,000 scale Lunar Map(LM) Series is designed to provide topographic coverage of the entire lunar surface and is the successor to the Lunar Astronautical Chart(LAC) Series. It closely follows the LAC Series in format and design. This map shows the O'Day crater region and the Mare Ingenii or what's more commonly know as. The Sea of Ingenuity. I find it interesting that NASA apparently was interested enough in the lunar"farside" that they would expend time and resources photographing these features and then spend money printing maps of that area. What's the point? They weren't going to land there. A bit ... moreof a mystery to me but then, it makes these"original" lithographs even more desirable in my estimation. The LM Series was suspended with only 11 maps completed. You'll not find a map like this anywhere else but here. Don't pass on this STUNNING and rare example of early lunar cartography.
