Crafted during the first years of the 19th Century. It has a wonderful black paint over another layer of reddish orange, probably also a layer over the original and currently unknown color. The back of the chair has a graceful bow, carefully grasping each through-tenoned splinted spindle before diving through the single solid plank pine seat. The seat is heavily patinated, with deep grooves and wear from decades of active use. The entire chair sits over four splayed bamboo carved legs, all four of which tenon through the plank seat before being secured with a splint, each held firmly and perfectly in place with a bamboo carved H-stretcher. This is a most charming chair, in excellent condition with wonderful patina and character throughout- the early painted surfaces are probably not the original layers, but seem to protect earlier layers beneath, these quite possibly the earliest surfaces. A wonderful find for those that are passionate about fine windsor chairs. Measurements: Seat 13.5" wide x 14.5" deep. The seat sits 16" from the ground and the back of the seat is 33.5" high. Condition Report: Paint worn throughout. Probably not the original surfaces. Deep groves and losses in the plank seat. Chips and abrasions throughout. One nail, appears to be modern, on side of chair stabalizing hoop back. Plank seat split with a butterfly joint securing seat from beneath and two screws locking it in place. Chair is structurally strong, but could possibly be too weak to use functionally as a chair. Please review the images in the slideshow for a full overview of condition.

The chair is about 26 1/2 inches long. The width of the chair at the arms is approximately 24 1/2 inches. The seat is approximately 17 1/2 inches deep(front to back) the front of the seat is about 15 inches high. This would be a fine addition to a craftsman bungalow decor. Identification This antique L. and J.G. Stickley chair retains its original"THE WORK OF L. J.G. STICKLEY" paper label beneath one arm. As shown. It is circa early 20th century. Condition The chair looks good overall. It has its original leather seat. Which has wear and some staining. The finish appears to be original. The oak has minor nicks, scuffs, and dings, all of which are normal wear for an antique chair. The back side of one of the front vertical posts has a minor, tight 7" long split along the wood grain; this does not appear to reduce the stability of the post. It has a Phoenix Chair Company stamp on the bottom of the seat. The Phoenix Chair Company was a popular furniture company founded in Sheboygan. Wisconsin in the late 19th century. ITEM MEASUREMENTS This item measures about 41 1/2" tall. About 26 1/2" wide(arm to arm) and about 33 1/2" deep including the rockers. It measures about 15" from seat to ground. The seat measures about 20 3/4" wide and about 19 1/2" deep. Screw underneath arm of chair: THIS ITEMS CONDITION REPORT This is in normally worn condition. And creaks. ITEM WEIGHT This weighs about 40 lbs before packing. SHIPPING INFORMATION I will be sending your item from San Diego. California 92116 USA. I normally send most items. This one is a Stickley Brothers#790 rocker. ... moreThis form is very hard to find. We are glad it turned up and we gladly restored it. It is in excellent overall condition. And has very well matched new leather upholstery. The measurements are 36 inches tall, 27 1/2 outside arm, and 16 inches seat to floor. It has a great fumed oak color and grain, retains its brass Quaint Furniture tag. It is in 3 out of 4 known Stickley Brothers catalogs. This would be a welcome addition to any bungalow, mission oak, or Stickley- style household. Also a great chair for someone just starting out, as it is as comfortable as it is useful. The chair has a few dings and scratches and a very small section of the arm that is not perfect, but it is in used, not abused condition. It is sturdy and solid, and lots of life left to offer comfort and enjoyment for years to come.
