Art Deco Pinstripe Sterling Silver Dance Coin Purse 1920s Betsch
This is a sterling silver coin purse or dance purse with the intitials“ GHB” monogram. It is stamped“sterling” on the inside edge. Inside are two pouches in soft. Tan leather and a beveled mirror in fairly good condition. One pouch pops out and the other has a fold-over cover. The latch closes perfectly and the halves line up perfectly. There are a couple of shallow dents on both sides which are hard to see and a number of scratches, but remember this is an old purse from the 1920s. It measures 4.25” x 3” x 3/4” deep. The chain is almost 6” beyond the purse. The most interesting thing about this purse is that on the back of the mirror is a handwritten message in pencil. Great care should be given to this inscription so as not to rub it off with the fingers. It is not completely clear what it says. Lovely Victorian floral engraving on one side and a spectacular Art Deco monogram on the reverse. The interior has two coin holders for nickels and dimes. A powder compartment with outside mirror and a currency or card holder. Signed Webster Sterling. All in excellent condition. The purse measures 3 1/2 by 2 1/2" with a 12" chain. It is, indeed, a wonderful piece- close to 100 years old. This wonderful purse was obtained at an old San Francisco estate liquidation. Antique Chatelaine Silvered Coin Purse with Velvet and Silk LIning
This tiny purse was made to hold just a few coins or flat items. I believe it is silverplate. But the only mark I have found on it is a heart shaped mark on the interior near the closure. The interior appears to be gilded. There is a nice six piece hinge, and the purple velvet lining has two pockets, of silk, for holding items inside. There is a nice silvered chain, either for carrying or for hanging this lovely purse from a chatelaine hook. The tiny purse measures just 2 1/4 inches by 2 1/8 inches. And is 1/2 inch thick. This is an extremely rare antique 19th century German silver multi-purpose carrying case. it has many compartments consisting of a trinket box. A not pad, a coin holder, mirror, and card/ note case. the piece is made from a silver plated bronze and is a high quality piece. it unlocks and opens in half at a push of the button on the side and has a wonderful oval link carrying chain. the storage spaces all have little tabs that keep the compartments shut. the coin section holds quarters and dimes. behind the mirror is the obscure ox bone writing pad. And behind that is the ornate arm for note/ or card storage. the piece has a nice patina from age and measures 3 5/8 by 2 5/8 inches without measuring the chain. it is overall in nice shape. I try and charge as close to actual shipping costs as I can even though it does cost me some extra money for the envelopes, bubble wrap, tape, and gas to get the post office.
