RARE ANTIQUE VINTAGE COMPLETE CAST IRON BELL USA No 1 SCHOOL FARM CHURCH DINNER
This is a rare and fantastic antique USA No 1 cast iron bell typically used for farms. Churches, and schools. There do not appear to be any repairs, cracks, or major damage, just a very nice solid overall piece. These are quite rare and this model in particular is scarce. The woman I brought it from said that her dad brought it home after the war but didnt have any other information so I am not completely sure of its origin as I have never seen another like it. It is a great piece for a collector or for decoration. The bell alone measures approximately 14 in diameter. These are hard to find with the original upright so grab it while you can! The composer received $35 outright per composition with no royalties, but with the switch he became a more astute businessman. The origin of the present work, one of his most famous marches, was the rededication of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, which in those days was often on display ... moreat different locations around the country, a symoblic aid to the healing of the still raw wounds of the Civil War. Heavy No. 24 school/church bell mounted on a crude but solid garden stand, can be removed if you wanted to. This bell is in very good to excellent condition with age and wear as you would expect and has the rarely seen original rope pulley. The bell has a nice clear ring. All parts are original to this bell and all are marked with a No. 24, the top of the bell also has a 24 on it but it is hard to read and photo. There are the usual small chips around the mouth of the bell and some rough casting flaws but there is no damage and no repairs. It has had a recent coat of flat black paint. Beautiful church windows are seen along with wooden doors, a bell tower and a tall steeple. It appears the Minister is standing on his front porch. The card is postally unused. Personal message is found on the back of the card. It was written on August 29, 1915. Heavy darkening and foxing is present. Normal darkening due to age. Normal edge and corner wear, small bends and creases and other wear from use and age-Please see pictures to make your final decision on condition. Very RARE! Jo s Bernhard(Joseph Bernhard Foundry) He was in business in Philadelphia as early as 1845- 1880. Bernhard has the distinction of having drilled out the crack of The Liberty Bell and recast The Sister Liberty Bell in 1847 after it was destroyed in a fire at Olde Saint Augustine's Church in 1844. There's not a lot of information that can be found on google about this foundry due to the rarity of these bells. I've been contacted by well known resellers and collectors numerous times to sell this bell to them. But I'd rather sell on eBay so, everyone has a chance to bid. This is a RARE chance to own a piece of history. The bell has been kept under a shed and cleaned on a regular basis(could use a professional cleaning) There is a some chips and pitting but nothing major for a piece of this age(148 years old!
