The cover has wear and marks, the binding is a little loose, and the pages are in good shape and have minor discoloration considering their age. There are signatures from 2 prior owners that are dated 1789 and 1792. The spine is ribbed and is slightly split down the middle and has considerable wear. Up for auction is this vintage Book of Common Prayer published by Harper and Brothers in 1944. The book is in very good condition except for the items noted in the condition description. There appears to be a repair to the leather on the lower right front cover. See photos 5 and 6. There is wear to the edges and corners as shown in the high resolution photographs. There is also an inscription on the first inside page as shown. Otherwise, the gold edging is nice and bright, the binding is tight, and the pages are not creased or bent at all. The pages have yellowed from obvious age, but do not appear to be ripped or damaged, the cover has some faded spots( see pics) but the spine appears in good continue. Here is a very well loved copy of the Book of Common Prayer. It contains the sacred texts of the Episcopal service and the Sacraments and Rites and Ceremonies of their Church. It also has The Psalms of David. Published in 1953 by Seabury press in Greenwich. Connecticut. It is roughly 600 pages of thin, onion skin like paper. The book comes with two long ribbons,which are useful for keeping one's place in the service. The book is well preserved for all the Sunday's of use. The small black leather volume displays very well. The book is 4.5 by 6.5 inches. The exterior page ends shown signs of gilt trim, typical for a religious book printed at the time. The leather cover shows some wear expected for a book lovingly use overthe years. This would make a handsome gift for the book collector on your list.
