Cast iron ovens really began to be made in quantity, These first ovens of German design were called Five-plate or Jamb stoves, Around 1800, Count Rumford invented a working iron kitchen stove called the Rumford stove that was designed for very large working kitchens, The Rumford had one fire source that could heat several cooking pots, the heating level for each pot could be regulated individually, However, the Rumford stove was too large from the average kitchen and inventors continued to improve their designs! One successful and compact cast iron design was Stewart's Oberlin iron stove. Patented in the 1834, Cast iron stoves continued to evolve, with iron gratings added to the cooking holes, added chimneys and connecting ... moreflue pipes! These old wood and coal stoves. Including Cylinder, Parlor, Four O'Clock and other Stoves often had a Finial, it had little function except as a decoration, It more often than not would cover a Cook Plate, or Eye Plate, that could be used for Boiling Water, Tea, Coffee, Decorative finial's were mostly put aside during stove operation, as they were just simply in the way, Some stove owners would put them back during the off season of heating, to decorate the stove! Up for auction is a Jotul Combifire 4 in great shape. Beautiful condition. And great styling with dark green stove paint(looks dark grey in most light) We remodeled our living room and needed a smaller stove. Have looked at several of these and this one is in the best condition I've seen. Runs well, new gaskets last year on door, no cracks in body or anywhere else. Handle is cracked- which is very common for these and is replaceable. Fireplace screen included. Fire brick in good condition. Heated our 1400sq ft house in Northern Vermont with ease. This Stove is way. Way complete, the base is 29"x29" and measures 66" from top to bottom, it is very heavy and will need to be disassembled for transport if you live next door or in Alaska, I believe it may as heavy as 350-400lbs, the good news is it is for the most part disassemble, that's how I have moved it so far, the workings are complete and the nickel plating is 115 years old, still looking good, I have replaced some of the stove bolts as the old bolts were retired, one small crack on the crown frill, however it remains complete and minor repairs are required, minor) small base crack, you only see this if you take apart for moving, The price is good here but the freight may be a problem, I can pack a hell of a stove but the weight may be the killer, I will ship to major cities only, This is a super cool stove, check ... moreit out and lets get to it!

Just like great grandmas, a real piece of history Built by Tennessee Stove Works of Chattanooga Tennesse. This antique wood/coal fired stove is an awesome piece at a price to sell. It is in good condition considering its age. It is estimated to be manufactured in the early 1900s. The porcelain is in good shape with only one compromise on the oven door. All the stove plates are still with it and in decent shape. The enamel tray above the stove is intact. But the supports are not perfectly aligned(probably an easy fix) The oven temperature indicator is also in good shape and showing minimal temperature. So it is possible it still works. We have not used it other than for a display piece serving as a wine bar. So we do not know if it is operable. ... moreIt looks like it could operate if need be. There is no physical sign of cracks, though one side firebox panel is broken in two pieces(repairable) The lift tool for the burners is included. Everything is original. Except the stand was repainted in an off white. The inside shows signs of rust and to a lesser degree. There is some on the top. There is a water heater on the right side. Though we are not sure if it was intended as a humidifier.

This is a vintage humidifier that was used on a wood stove or early heater. I believe it is earthenware clay. I was told it was an early Chinese piece. There are no cracks. The only area I could see any chips is on the lip. But I'm not sure it is even a chip. This is such an interesting piece. I know it is very old, but how old, I do not know. I have owned it for at least 20 years. It has a hole on the top for the water and another on it's mouth for the steam. It measures about 9 inches long. The body of this duck measures about 7 inches wide. From the bottom to the top of the bill measures about 8 1/2 inches tall. Please email me with questions or any information you would like to share. In the 2 close up photos of the broken out chip area, you should also be able to see the end of a screw protruding out near it that needs removed.The other 2 of these 3 screw holes are fine, just the one needing screw removed.The screws are for holding the elbow smoke outlet pipe in place on the damper assembly. The draft control is stuck from setting.should free up with just some TLC. The handle is missing part of the grip portion. Otherwise, there are no cracks or damage that I can see. The pot belly stove measures 10 inches tall by 7 inches in diameter. The other stove measures 9 1/2 inches tall by 9 inches wide by 6 inches deep. Both are marked McCoy, USA on the bottom. Both are in great condition.
