The panels are in rosewood and it has ... morebeen nicely inlaid in the Tunbridge style. The sides of the box feature roses and foliage in tapestry style. To the lid there is a central depiction of a ruined country manor surrounded by a repeating geometric pattern. The interior is lined in a light gold satin. The box comes with a key and tassel but these are for decorative purposes as the lock does not function and the locking tang is damaged. To the underside it has a red paper liner which may well be original At this size the box could have been used for a number of purposes and was quite possibly for documents or scrolls. A lovely looking example with nicely inlaid detail. Stock Code: 8081 MR13-3. Height 10 cms(4 inches) Width 27 cms(10.5 inches) Weight 504 grams(before packing) The box has been cleaned and polished in natural waxes and is in good order for the period. There are minor flaws in the inlay with some very minor losses but no significant faults. The interior is nicely lined but is not original. Included with all of the brass hardware in the antique wooden case(which is beautiful, by the way) are ink pen tips that I assume are fitted somehow in this set up so that as one draws on one of the circles, another pen makes the same moves on the other circle.that's my theory anyway! You be the judge! All I really know is that it is very heavy(like 10 pounds or more, almost all brass and the antique wooden box(with working key) is great. South Bend wood Surf - Oreno lure #963 F plus Fred Arbogast and Creek Chub
The main piece being bid on in this auction is the SouthBend lure. The wood body is in good condition with one scratch shown in the pictures. The glass eyes are intact. The hooks and spinners are rusted. The box is used but in good condition. The top and bottom are not crumpled or broken. The top has some dings but in pretty good shape for a used item. The board is 6 ft. high. 18 1/2" at rounded top and 13 1/2" at the bottom. There is no marking on this board and only remnants of blue paint remain.
