Here is an Avery needlecase you don't see very often. It is called"Trunk With Grain and Straps. and according to the Horowitz, Mann book, was made in 1879. It is pictured in the frontpiece of the book. A delightful element to its design is the detailed grain pattern which is made to imitate a natural wood grain. This example is a little"woggled" It seems to be all there, but the top sits on a slant. I'm sure someone can straighten it, but I'm afraid to play with it. Even with this, it's an adorable piece. This is a very rare Goyard carriage trunk. But will need restoration as you can see. The top measures 33 5/8" x 9 1/2" The bottom measures 13" front to back, and the ht. is 10 3/4" The skin is canvas and is bubbling in places and separated at corners. There is damage to the right corner, looks like it got wet at one point) and the steel band has broken and is rusty. There are wooden slats on the inside cover and one of the slats is cracked in half but still in place. Wardrobe Steamer Trunk circa 1920's
This old wardrobe steamer trunk is from the 1920's era. It no doubt carried clothing. Documents, and treasures for fellows like Gatsby himself or a passenger on the Titanic. An original nail file was found tucked away in one of its drawers waiting to be found by generations later. The 8 drawers are linen lined. And I think the briefcase is as well. The top of the wardrobe area opens up to reveal a majestic deep purple velvet material. There is a lever behind the drawers that keeps the drawers from opening up during transportation. The trunk closes but the lock is broken and does not latch. This is an original steamer trunk and has scratches and signs of normal wear and tear. This steamer trunk is a great addition to any room. Fancy Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps, Key & 2 Trays
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps. And Buckles, Working Lock& Key and 2 Original Interior Trays Here we have a very unique flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Out of about 1500 trunks that we have refinished. This is the first one that has triple straps running up the front and across the top. This one had originally come with three straps going up the front and across the top from the factory. Obviously we have replaced those three straps with Amish made leather straps, running them where the original straps once were. The center strap can be tucked under a piece of leather on the top if you don't want it to come down over the lock. We have made it that way so you can display your trunk with the lock showing instead of being covered by the third strap. We did want to include the third strap ... moresince it is the first trunk we have ever had with three straps. It just makes it more complete by putting the strap that covers the lock on this trunk. All of the black strap keepers or hold downs that you see on the front and top of the trunk are the original ones which we have painted black. This trunk is made up of poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings along with some areas of discoloration to the wood on the slat boards. This one doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood which is quite unusual since most trunks we refinish have stress cracks. Here are the trunk's dimension s: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This one comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Corbin Cabinet Lock Co New Britain Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The edge band

Authenticated by Antiques Road Show. This was given to me by the owner. Measures 81 inches tall x 61 inches wide x 24 inches deep. When Antique Roadshow came into Honolulu. I went with my father and we got it authenticated at the Asian Antique section. The pros said approx 150-200 years old and definitively genuine, not replica. They put value at around $3K retail. Chinese/Tibetian, as it was used to store tibetian incense at one time in history and the inside smells of this incense still. I purchased about 12 years back when I was in Okinawa through a well known Antiques dealer. Who I personally knew and befriended. Sophie's Antique, any military person who has been stationed there knows as she/Sophie used to gets crates of antiques through china direct to Okinawa and then sell at the bases for huge dollars. This was before the moratorium ... moreon antiques leaving China. She knew I wanted to get something special for my father, who is born year of the Dragon, and so she put this one aside for me. She said she has seen several other similar dragons, but that this was by far the most detailed, high relief and hand painted one. All sides except for the bottom and one side. Was constructed from 1 solid piece of wood. There is a 3/4 inch wood trim surrounding the lid secured by a metal band and flat head screws. The top measures 46" X 28" The sides are dovetailed together and measure 44-1/2" X 27-1/2" The base is trimmed out in a molding style design and it measures 46-1/2" X 29-1/2" It stands 33-3/4 inches tall. It rests on very early casters which resemble railroad wheels. The interior was stripped of the shelving but could easily could be reconstructed if you choose. Original metal handles either side. The lock is present but there is no key. Overall good condition and ready for use in the home. This is a metal trunk. The original owner called it a War Trunk. He said it was from WW1 era, I can not confirm. It is painted with a wood effect and is beautifully aged in a Shabby chic way. The inside is blue. Some of the paint has been worn off, but it all adds to its character, would look great as a coffee table or side table etc. I researched this trunk and the only others like this I could find were for sale in Europe. Completely Antique Beat up Victorian Trunk From the 1800s
This is a very old trunk from the 1800s that had leather covering on it.It needs restoring and scent cleaning( it smells as old as it looks) but you can always say you have a very old piece. The inside was lined in linen.it has some very nice hardware and alot of it, another indication of a good trunk maker. With Corbin locks the better lock makers. it doesnt have the tray, looks like it may have had a hat box on the tray. Of course its a dome top, but I believe due to the linen and hardware it may be a Victorian Ladies or possibly a Wedding Trunk.

Vintage Military Officer's Footlocker/Steamer Trunk
This is a wonderful old steamer trunk/footlocker. I found it at an estate sale where there was a bunch of WWII memorabilia. However, the sale was run by an outside agent who knew little about the items so I was not able to learn much about the age or history of this item. It would make a nice coffee table with lots of storage room inside. It measures 31" X 16" X 13" and is constructed of wood and wrapped in thin. Dark green painted metal with brass-tone hardware/corner guards. From what information I have been able to gather, the date and manufacturer information are beneath the printed paper lining the inside of the trunk but I will not pull it up to check as it is original to the trunk. This item is used. The exterior has a nice patina of travel scuffs. Scratches and light dings but is still a sturdy piece with no structural ... moreissues. Both leather strap handles are intact and in good condition(all of the ones I found online were missing one, if not both, of the strap handles.The two outer latches work properly and keep the lid secure. Some of the hardware have rust spots. The interior paper has become brittle and is peeling in a few spots and there are some light stains here and there. There does appear to be some corrosion stains where the paper touches/touched the metal detailing. As for the lock, I do not know if it works. I do not have a key so I don't want to chance having to break the lock. I have more detailed pictures. If you would like to see them send me a message.
