Base, Wash. D.C. M.A.T.S. stands for Military Air Transport Service. Activated on 1 June 1948. M.A.T.S was a consolidation of the United States Navy Naval Air Transport Service(NATS) and the United States Air Force Air Transport Command(ATC) into a single, joint, unified command. It was inactivated and discontinued on 8 January 1966 when the Air Force and Navy set up separate strategic airlift commands. And it is in its original condition. It comes with 4 original(3 currently installed) casters on the bottom. I have included a pic of the bottom showing all 4 casters. As you can see by the pic, the top right caster is detached due to wood loss. The term"original condition" also includes the following: One of the side carrying straps is missing. The lower section of the left hinge for the lid has become detached(see pic) The wood slat second in from the right has suffered a split at the peak of the dome(see pic) There is no key. If you are looking for an early trunk check out this hide covered dome top wood truck in original as found condition. Measuring approx. 27" wide x 13-3/4" x 12" high. Covered in its original hide skin dating to the early 1800's or before. This is a true antique. The original lock and hasp are intact. Each end has the original matching iron handles to lift and carry the trunk. The inside has the original old worn wall paper. This trunk is solid, the wood on the bottom is very clean without rot. Estate ~ Corset "Waist" Shaped 1800's Ladies Trunk CUTE SIZE
This is a great little trunk measuring approx. 26" wide x 14" at the widest portion of the waist shaped side x 13-1/2" tallest. It appears that someone started to restore this beauty by exposing the beautiful pine wood. The original brass lock cover is still in place. There is a removable tray that fits inside to store items on a separate level. There is a nice large size handle on each end of the trunk to carry it by. The back is hinged nicely to open and close the trunk tightly. Condition is as shown. The old leather like handle on the front of the lid is only attached on one side. I'm not sure this is original and you could easily remove it. It has some tiny dings from years of use and a couple cracks in the wood from separation over the years that would be customary for an item that is over 125 years old. A great size trunk. 31" wide from edge to edge, 23" tall and 20" deep. This outstanding trunk is a highly sought after Victorian Slat Trunk made by Martin Maier& Co. of Detroit, Michigan. Martin Maier slat trunks are quite rare, and the bevel corner, flat top is the scarcest of the styles. These trunks were referred to as the"Rustic" style in the Maier Trunk catalog. The Pine or Basswood box was covered entirely with hardwood slats to make it very strong. Every other slat is dark wood to produce a very dramatic affect. This trunk has been carefully cleaned, restored, and coated with Tung Oil finish. The original lock is in great working condition with the key included. Mandel Bros Wardrobe Steamer Trunk 1930’s( Chicago History or Your Future Equipment Case One side of this cool trunk flips up and has metal arms which extend to get at hanging clothes. The original wood hangers are still present. The other side has four pull-out drawers. Dimensions are roughly 22’ x 22” x 41’ I’d guess the weight at 80-90 lbs. Obviously this was designed as a travelling closet and was built to take a beating. Mandel Bros was one of the leading Chicago department stores from the mid-1800’s to the 1970’s. The trunk shows the expected scuffs and dings but is structurally solid. The vintage wear just adds to its rustic charm. The exterior is black. Though it looks lighter in some of the pictures. The lock has been popped and bent so is currently non-functional(and there is no key) but the trunk still securely latches shut. The trunk fell apart from being in a damp environment but the hardware on it was saved and hopefully can be used to help fix or restore another trunk or piece of furniture. The outside has a little finish loss in the one area on top. You could always touch it up with a little light scratch cover or varnish if you wanted to, also a small piece of the bamboo on the one corner is missing which could be replaced with a piece of rounded wood. Sarreid Era Hollywood Regency Brass Treasure Chest Trunk Wedding Box Antique 40s
Stunning small chest/trunk in the manner of Sarreid. The dome top chest has an amazing patina to the brass and would make a fine addition to any home with similar decor. Antique Wardrobe Style Travel Trunk w/ Customs Sticker Possibly Hartmann?
This is a very clean trunk. The inner cover has a rip in it and I don't have the key. But the case is sturdy and the interior clean. The handles show some wear too. No odors or stains. There is a customs sticker from the US on the outside, but I couldn't read a date. This looks exactly like the Hartmann, but has no tag. The only name I found was the Eagle Lock Co and the latches. For your consideration is an antique steamer trunk. Dates to approximately 1932. There are stickers on the trunk. Which I did not remove. This is a large trunk, but in pretty good shape for it's age and the number of trips it has taken over the years. I was told that this trunk went from Germany to England and to Scotland and then to the United States. Measures 40" wide, 21" wide and 21" deep. This trunk does show wear, but adds to the history. There is some damage to the inside and made some holes on the underside. This does not effect the look, but would not make a good shipping trunk anymore. RARE Early Primitive Antique Colonial Camphor Chest Voyage Trunk Original Brass
This auction is for a Primitive Camphor Voyage Chest. The chest is made from the aromatic Camphor wood. The chests were used for travel and safe keeping of personal items. The aromatic wood therefore served as a natural pest repellent. I have been unable to determine the precise age of this chest however it is believed to be a very early primitive example from the mid to late 1800's. The craftsmanship is amazing, there is dovetailing at each corner joint and the original brass slats are still fully intact. The lock mechanism is also fully intact but missing the original key. The exterior has seen some age and wear, but the integrity of the box has not been compromised, it is sturdy and will continue to withstand the test of time. Large Vintage Chinese Trunk Chest Document Box with Rice Paper Interior
I am offering a lovely vintage wooden trunk measuring approximately 23 inches long and 12 inches wide and 9 1/8 inches tall. The box has lovely and beautiful metal decorations. The inside of the box is lined with I believe rice paper which has Chinese writing on it. The box is in very good condition but does have a few scratches and some small nicks(see pictures) The postage is estimated and will refund any significant overcharge.

SUPERB ANTIQUE CHINESE 9 PANEL CARVED CAMPHOR WOOD DRAGON ENGRAVED BRASS TRUNK
We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Antique Chinese Camphor wood trunk. This elaborate trunk features 9 panels(3 on the front, 3 on the top, and 3 on the back) of intricately carved and detailed scenes in deep relief. The trunk is adorned with an abundance of brass trim and hardware. The brass is engraved with an elaborate design which features a scaled, fire breathing dragon. The serpent is done in a scrolling pattern which is repeated throughout the face of the brass. The brass is secured with large brass nails/tacks. The trunk is raised on 4 small legs. The inside contains a sliding top tray which moves freely, from side to side, via a larger wooden bottom that rests on wooden strips attached to the upper interior of the trunk. There are two large interior hinges which allow for smooth opening and closing of the trunk lid. A large ... morelock on front fastens the lid in place. There is a large handle on each exterior side. The handles feature a decorative, engraved back plate. Each corner of the trunk is decorated with brass trim that highlights the dragon. THERE ARE TOO MANY DETAILS ON THIS TRUNK TO CAPTURE IN THE 12 PHOTOS! This is a beautiful. Elaborate and large trunk. It is in very good, antique condition. There is some minor evidence of age. The brass engraving has some minor areas of wear to the pattern in a couple of areas. There appears to have been a second lock on the front which is missing. One of the side handles has been reattached with two brass screws and the brass tacks are smaller on the back plate than the other tacks used on the piece. There are a couple of areas of minor splitting of the wood on the face only, which is common. None of these issues are major or distracting from the trunk. Overall, the trunk is in extremely nice condition. IT IS SIMPLY STUNNING! The trunk is large and measures 48" wide. 25" tall and 21.75" deep(front to back) The interior is 15.25" in depth(from top to bottom) The sliding tray is 18.5" x 16.75" x 2.25" The trunk is VERY HEAVY.

Vintage Hand Carved Large Chinese Chest/Trunk Purchased in Hong Kong 1950's
Here is a unique find. This was a recent auction purchase that was brought over from Hong Kong in the early 1950's. It was purchased by a Minnesota military pilot who lived in Hong Kong in the early 1950's. When he and his family moved back to Minnesota in 1954. They brought the chest with them. I don't know the age of this chest other than when it entered the country. The chest is very intricately carved with wonderful detail. The chest measures approximately 39" wide. 19" deep and 23" from floor to the top of the lid. The lid of the trunk has a broken brass interior lid stop that prevents the lid from being opened to far. There are a few small marks on the lid probably from someone forgetting about the broken stop while opening the lid. One of the Asian men has part of a lock of hair missing on the lid. The back ... moreright joinery of the trunk does have some movement and cracking however the lid still functions as it should. I am guessing the humid climate in summer along with dry winters have had some effect on the wood. The latch will need to be reattached by removing the three screws and putting it back together. It is shown in the pictures however is just laying on the hasp. There is a very unusual brass lock that needs to be repaired. The brass claws will need to be reattached to the locking mechanism and the H key for the lock is not present. There is also a dime size blemish in the front of the chest. Looks like it may have been bumped while moving. This item will be for pick up only however we can bring it to a shipping location in Minneapolis area however all logistics will be the responsibility of the buyer. It is a solidly constructed trunk made from fairly heavy pine sections with two solid and sound hinges to the rear. This charming trunk has signs of a hard life as there are a myriad of scars. Stains, holes, dents, scuffs and so on over nearly all of it, and most parts are fairly coarsely cut bits of timber.Very characterful and practical and solid. Trim and wheels. Both side latches work. The trunk was loved and used! The cloth lining has a rip on the bottom, front right and is worn in spots. The rear center brace is split at center. The hardware is worn and has nice, rusty patina. The hinges on the back are black strap-type hinges. The inside of the trunk is covered in a light paper that has browned over years and is clean. You're looking at a really cool antique steamer trunk from the early 1900s by Innovation. This really reminds me of the scene from the Harry Potter movies where Professor Lupin has been fired and is magically packing up his trunk to leave Hogwarts! There are 5 drawers on the left side. The top one is divided into 3 separate compartments. All have intact leather pulls. The right side features a set of wooden hangers that swing out for easy access to all your clothes plus two more small shelves for hanging trousers or locking larger items into the lower portion of the trunk. The outside is nearly indestructible. Being covered in metal. It looks like someone spilled some white paint on it at some point. The hinges are intact, and the main latches are functional, although the secondary ones are damaged. A Ladycomet Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/2 Locks,Key,& Tray
Beautiful Refinished Large Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks& a Key and Interior Tray This one has surely come a very long way from when we purchased it. This one was completely painted pastel green on the exterior like they used to do in the 1970's with a lot of furniture items. We spent a heck of a lot of time stripping over 99% of the ugly paint off of the exterior. The trunk should date back to around 1900 or so. It is quite unusual in which it has the double locks. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has turned out to be a nice tannish brown color on the base wood and a tannish color to the slat boards. The wood is in pretty good condition although there are some scrapes and nicks ... moreon the wood in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. All of these markings are very common on most all of the trunks that we refinish. When we received this trunk. The lower locks were cut off. So we have installed two vintage Eagle Lock Company locks, both of which will work with the one key provided. The upper receiving part for the locks on this trunk are original indicating that we have replaced the locks with similar ones. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/4 inches. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. All of our leather for these trunks is obtained from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. This beautiful flat top trunk which is a true flat top with no factory arch, did have a leather strap that ran up the front and across the top. It was missing, so we have replaced it with an Amish made leather strap with roller buckle. It

Gorgeous Extra Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Double Latch Style Lock. Working Key, Interior Compartment Area, and an Interior Tray Here is a rare find since this trunk is exceptionally loaded with fancy hardware and it comes with the beautiful double latch lock. This beautiful dome top should date back to the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This wonderful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome top is made of early ply. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it look ... morenice. There are some typical older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. These distress marks are quite common and typical on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. The base wood has a tannish brown color while the outer slat boards have a more medium or walnut brown color. This trunk maker must have spent who knows how many hours applying all of the fancy metal hardware to this trunk. We counted how many metal hardware parts are on this trunk which include the lock, latches, and wheels. It came up to over 90 pieces. That is just incredible. We have not had a trunk this fancy in quite a long time. We wish we could find fancy trunks like this more often, but they are hard to come by. Some of the fancy metal rosettes that are on the top slat boards have been pressed flat over the years of being shipped on railroads and having other trunks and items stacked on top of them. They are all there, just we wanted to say that some are flat and some are still domed. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it so there won't be any surprises. I picked this up at a Pa. estate sale this past weekend. I couldn't believe the original. Working key was still here. It's a flat top with the slightest raise in the center, so, not completely flat. It's adorned with wood slats. Take notice of the stenciling on the leather trim attached with studs. On the inside you will see the original paper lining. The leather handles are torn off but some pieces were saved and are inside. see pic) Maybe you can patch them up. The top straps are also missing. And part of the buckle is there. Fantastic 19th Century German Trunk The sides are slightly curved by design-this is not a square box. Probably for a buggy. Overall good and worn condition with great old patina and attractive wear to the wood and paint. Circa mid 1800s. The hinges and straps are original. There are missing and rusted pieces of the metal and some chips and cracks in the wood. This came to the US in the 1880s from Germany and was found in the barn owned by the same family whose relatives were those German Immigrants.
