The trunk is made of wood, with a nice brown covering that is mainly intact, although it is torn in quite a few places, and metal reinforced seams. There is no key with it, and the original locking mechanism is now missing. The trunk also has two latches, one on each side of the main lock, that are a unique design and work well, although they are covered with a fair amount of surface rust. The trunk also has other label remnants on it from travel, as well as a partial guarantee label inside the lid.

This is an Antique ca.1890 Ladies trunk. Sometimes called a half trunk. It is 20"x 15"x 20" high and weighs 24 lbs. It is solid pine with wide oak slats. The original canvas has been repainted dark forest green. All of the hardwear is original. The key has been lost. The leather handles have been replaced. The interior has been cleaned and finished and includes the original large removable pine tray. Look carefully at the photos. No returns. Beautiful Refinished Antique Jenny Lind Style Trunk With Straps. Working Lock& Key, and Interior Tray Here is a really beautiful completely refinished Jenny Lind steamer trunk or travel chest from the mid 1800's and it is signed on the bottom in painted calligraphy with black paint of the owner's name and the county in Pennsylvania that he lived. Take a look at the picture of the bottom and you will see this beautiful signature. We think it is"James Selle" or something like that and it says. Mifflintown Juniata County" which is about 1 1/2 hours from our house and it is where we purchased this trunk to refinish. It is kind of neat to know who probably originally owned this trunk about 150 years ago. Anyhow, here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 26 inches, from floor to top is ... moreapproximately 16 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 1/4 inches. This is a Jenny Lind trunk as we have mentioned before in other ads. These Jenny Linds came about because of the opera singer from Europe. She traveled overseas to come to America to perform and she had beautiful trunks to carry her luggage in. The American trunk makers noticed the beautiful style and started making trunks with that look here in America for customers. It is the slice of bread shape on the side where the top angles in along with the base angling in towards the top. Also it has the metal banding with the decorative buttons or rosettes. These are notorious for the Jenny Lind style. The trunk dates back to somewhere around 1860 or so. The wood is in very nice condition. It has been finished with three coats of polyurethane to preserve it and give it a nice appearance. A lot of times, there is a big crack or gap going across the top on these older trunks because of wood shrinkage. This one only has a small hairline stress crack on the top which is very common on older trunks that we refinish. Antique Trunk Covered in Hide or Paper
This sweet little trunk is 18" long. 9" tall, and 10" wide and has a dome top. It is constructed with very early materials and I am not sure whether to covering is hide or paper. At some point a couple of hinges were added that actually had a more modern screw- but 99% of the nails( do not. I know little about trucks and their construction. Antique Vintage wood blanket chest trunk from 1800s
This beautiful solid pine trunk is from the late 1800's. It has the original hardware. Due to its age and material it has a little of the lower molding missing on one side(see photo 2) This is part of its charm. There are two small drawers inside the trunk. I found a nail. As pictured, in the drawer and similar ones in the chest itself showing its age. There is a crack that runs across P art the top of the trunk but doesn't affect its use. Lid closes and o pens. It is sturdy enough to be carried by the handles and a solid piece. No water damage. It would be a great coffee table or blanket chest. The patina is nice and its a beautiful piece from the past. Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Interior Divided Tray, and Working Lock& Key Here we have a nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is a true flat top with no factory arch. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with poplar or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings concentrated on to the outer slat boards along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have these similar markings. ... moreThis beautiful trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work properly with this lock. This one originally had leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the top of the trunk to it's base in addition to the lock and front latches. The front latches are in working condition and are original. The side handles have also been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. Going to the inside of the trunk. It comes with the original divided tray. We have replaced the bottom of the tray with a wooden bottom to make it sturdy. We have removed the interior paper lining from the interior and tray since it was worn out. Good looking, 2 original keys that work the lock. Flat top so you could add a piece of glass to make it your coffee table while storage hides inside! Perfect in the bedroom too! This is the most original steamer trunk we have ever had. It has the 2 original tray liners. One open, one with a folding top panel. This trunk is an antique, it is solid wood covered with the original canvas, strapped with solid wood horizontal strips for structure, edged with fancy heavy iron trims. The original clasp on either side of the front and lock are in place and work well. We were lucky to find two keys for the lock so you can hide your goodies. The initials G.M.D. are stenciled ... moreon each side of the trunk. Imagine this was the owners initials. Great storage. Good looking, ready to use with metal bottom that still has the original metal rolling wheels! These photos were taken outdoors so the colors are accurate. Take a look at the 12 photos you will not find a nicer steamer trunk on Ebay. I am not an expert on items we sell just describing what I see when I look at the piece. Use this as a guideline and follow along with the photos I have taken several at different angles to give you a good look at what you are buying. Condition: Very good condition. Antique 1800's Salesman's Sample Dome Top Trunk
This is a fabulous Antique 1800's Salesman's Sample Wooden Trunk with an alligator embossed gold painted front and brown painted dome top. The sides and back are floral embossed and the sides are green while the back is white. It has black painted metal strips. Hinges, and metal lock( Lock does not lock) There are wooden strips on the top, front, and sides. The bottom is plain wood. The interior is paper lined. It measures 16" wide and 9" tall in the front and back while the sides due to the dome, are 10.5" tall in the center and 9" wide. The handles on the sides have been broken off. It is in really great condition for being over 100 years old( hope I look so good! It has age and desirable patina! Shipping includes insurance.

M& M Secor's Antique Wall Trunk Patented January 2. 1894. A subspecies of the steamer, the wall trunk is a trunk that can be opened flush against a wall. This trunk is in very good condition. The wood is solid. As you can see someone painted the metal so it is not the original color. All of the hardware is original and in good condition. The lock mechanism works but there is no key. These trunks are very rare due to not many being made. The closed trunk measures approximately 19" deep x 31" tall x 22" high. The piece is missing that covers the sectioned top so things will not fall out when closing it. Not shown in the pictures is when the top is open there is a drawer you can pull open. This antique doll trunk is in good condition with new hinges. There is a lift out tray with a few little paper doll pieces and some loose antique stickers which you may glue to the inside of the trunk's lid. If you wish. The trunk is 11 3/4" wide, 7 1/2" tall, and 7 1/2" deep. There is the original latch but no key. The clothing inside is in good condition(there may be some stains, some small holes, and some missing snaps or buttons) except for the christening gown(the one all the way on the upper left) which is in poor condition with a larger hole on the chest, some thinning, and a section of torn lace on the hem. To give you an idea of some of the sizes of the clothing, the larger gray coat is 11" long, the smaller blue coat is 6" long, the peach flowery dress with the black trim is 11 3/4" long, and the ... morechristening dress with the torn lace(which is repairable I think) is 24" long. Antique Salesman Child Doll Sized Steamer Trunk, Corbin Lock, Very Well Made
This is a salesman's sample. Child's or doll sized steamer trunk. I believe the Corbin lock was made between 1890-1905, so I suspect the trunk is about that age as well. The trunk and hardware are the same quality as a full-sized steamer trunk. Consequently, it is strong and sturdy for its size. The trunk is 20.25"W, 12.75"H, and 11"D. Antique Victorian Chinese Camphor Wood Trunk Chest Locker Early 1800's or Older This is a beautiful piece. It measure's 37"x19"x16" larger once boxed) and is in really good antique condition. It has a strong patina and the exterior front lock cover has been lost. All of the other hardware. Hinges, handles, corners. And molding braces are in place. It has a scratches and marks all over the outside, but the inside is in great shape. The bottom panel has a crack in it. But it doesn't appear to effect anything. I didn't even see it until I was taking pics of the bottom. It is visible in the pic 8. A few of the previous owners left there names and dates that they owned the trunk during the 1800's. It appears it was passed down through several generations of a family of San Franciscans and San Francisco Bay Area. ... moreI know a little bit about this family through some research. Most of them have an easily traceable history. I am not going to make their names public however. A person of good authority was able to translate the cursive writing under the lid and revealed that the outer trim around the top and bottom of the trunk were installed as protective measures while traveling. Here is what he could make out: These trunk? corners. Top and bottom of trunk can be(revealed, seen, uncovered? by unscrewing the screws and slipping the strips off. Strips only were used while traveling. Here is a little bit more of what this person shared with me: The type of chest you have is the very best. These chests are made by Chinese craftsmen and have invisible dovetails. Incised brass fittings and a floating panel top(to prevent it from splitting in different climates) There was a very active trade with China when San Francisco was a boom town and these chests were brought in by the hundreds. Here is a true barn find. Right from a new england farm, super neat design on the front. Chest appears to have original hinges and side handles. There is paper/ travel stamps with early 1900 dates on them. I'm guessing its at least from early 1900s but possibly earlier, has metal overlay on top and on the corners with unique art design on the front. Inside is wood with paper lining. Chest is apprx. 24" long 18" wide and 16" high. A very unique chest, a good size, not too big, make a great accent piece.

Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock With Key and Interior Tray Here is a lovely refinished dome top or arch top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 24 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 14 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. We removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. The trunk appears t be made up of poplar base wood which are rough cut boards. These boards show the saw blade marks from the saw mill since they were not planed down to a smooth texture. The outer slat boards appear to be oak or ash. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve the wood. This one was missing the lock when we ... morereceived it and we have given it an older replacement lock which is signed. It says, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. This replacement lock comes with the proper key and does work correctly. A lot of doll collectors and collectors of coins and Civil War items have purchased this smaller sized trunk to store their collectible items inside. If you have a teddy bear or doll collection, you can display those items in and on the trunk with the lid in the open position. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. We do obtain all of our leather products for these trunks from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. The front latches are original and do work properly and they have been remounted with screws. There has been a couple of areas of metal patchwork done on this trunk. One area is at the top left side of the lid. A piece of metal was missing and we have put in a piece to cover this area. A close up picture of this area has been shown. Antique Small Dome Top Hump Back Steamer Trunk w/ Tray Embossed Tin& Wood Description: Up for sale is this great old small sized Dome top or Hump Back trunk! This trunk measures 24 1/4" x 14 x about 17" tall. As you can see from the photos on the left this trunk has been painted sometime in its past. The bottom tin is black in color with four embedded wheels near the corners. This leads us to believe that the original color of the tin on this trunk was black. You can see in the closeup that this trunk is covered with an embossed floral patterned tin covering held in place with wood straps with very ornate angle pieces at the corners. This trunk has 2 latches and one hasp type lock. Unfortunately the key for this lock is long gone. The hasps both close snugly but appear to be a little fragile. At one time there were leather handles ... moreon either side of this great old trunk. One side still has a little of the handle left. But the other sides handle is gone. The inside of the trunk is natural wood without any covering. The tray still feels pretty solid. This is an old antique doll trunk. It looks reaaly great for it's age. I would say it is from the late 1800's maybe early 1900's. This one here does have the tray with it. The size is 17 1/2" tall 26 1/4" wide 14 3/4" deep thats the outside. The inside is 24 3/4" wide 13 1/2" deep and 11 1/2" tall. The tray is 24 1/4"wide and 13" deep and 4" tall. You do not find these trunks in this good of shape. Whoever had this has taken very good care of it. I have not even noticed a musty smell at all. This is heavy and wieghs around 25 pounds boxed up. This has both handles intact along with its original internal securing lever. A great fully functional piece of luggage which would have originally housed a uniform or military effects for an overseas campaign in the days of Empire.
