Old advertisements for this ... moretrunk can be found from the 1918s! This trunk is close to 100 years old! The hinges on the lid are still in good condition and workable. The flip-down locks on the front are stiff but open and close well. The center lock no longer works- looks like someone had to"break and enter" as it is slightly bent and the lock mechanism is missing. There are heavy leather handles on the side that are still in very good condition. Above these handles are eye hooks to attach and hold the trunk still. There are decorative rivets holding the steel in place on all the edges. It looks like a few of them have been replaced over the years. All the outside hardware has rust on it. The black outside material is canvas-leather like. Not sure what it is but there are some rips and showing underneath is wood.There are small holes on the sides and bottom. Maybe this was used for bootlegging at one time? It looks like the bottom could have been nailed down to something as there are small nails that stick up on the inside. Neat old black and white wallpaper type material on the inside of the lid and in the three cubby-holes on the right side. Very spacious measuring approx. 29" long x 15" high. The largest space on the inside measures 24" wide x 11" Each of the cubbyhole spaces measures approx. 4" x 3 1/4 to 3 3/4" with the center space being the smallest. The inside is lined in a canvas type material. I will say there is a very strong mildew smell on the inside. It is dirty inside too- this is definately in need of some TLC! It looks like someone added leather and snaps to the inside of the lid to hold things.the leather is light colored and newer looking. One of these straps is broken. The original leather strap that holds the lid open is scuffed and worn but still works for the purpose. Overall this is a nice vintage trunk with a condition commensurat

In New York State the Henry Likly trunk company was the largest factory of its time. Located at 340 Lyell Ave in Rochester N.Y. the factory covered two acres of land. You see the condition, she definitely has character. The bare wood was once covered with a heavy type decorative paper, most of that is gone but you see some remnants of that in places. The original label was found in the trunk. It belonged to a gentleman in Escanaba Michigan. Maybe you can reincorporate the label back into a repurpose project(maybe lacqure it onto the top side? There is leather and metal construction incorporated into this little trunk. The leather handle is broken and the leather straps are gone with just some of their remnants being in place. This trunk appears to have belonged to The Kaplan Hotel at one point in time and was most likely used for theatrical equipment. Trunk dates based on research to the 1890's. This trunk is very large an measures 36" x 30 x 19.25" It has amazing Patina and all of it's original parts from what I can see. The leather handles did come detached from wear and age, but I did put them inside it. Lock appears to work, but I do not have a key. A large heavy metal case/ chest/ trunk labeled: Navigational Light Kit, For Landing Craft LCM(3) The back side of the case is labeled: Kit Light Navigational, DR. 9000-S6405-73227, STK. A17-K-572-310, SYMS 2556, I have done a little research and this box appears to have come from a US Landing Craft Mechanized Mark 3 or LCM(3) that was used to storm the beaches of Normandy on D-Day in World War II(WWII) I can not say for certain that this case was there. But ... morethe LCM3 was definitely in use at the time: Built by Higgins Industries. The LCM3 Landing Craft could deliver a 30 ton tank-but was mainly used as a troop and cargo transport. They first saw action on Tarawa in 1943, but also delivered deadly cargo to the shores of the Mediterranean and North Atlantic during the Invasion of Normandy. Higgins LCM(3) Landing Craft Originally developed by the British in 1920. The flat-bottom(LCM) Mechanized Landing Craft was constructed of steel and powered by two diesel engines, twin screws and rudders, which could be controlled from the pilothouse. These'walled barges' were the link between the beach and the large transport ships that sat offshore. The LCMs' huge bow ramps dropped upon landing to allow men and equipment to"hit the beach" in an amphibious assault. One of the most famous uses of the LCM was during the Normandy landings on D-Day. June 6th 1944. I have searched all over the internet and have not found anything like this. This is definitely a rare find and would make a great addition to any collector's home! This auction is for the above photographed. RARE, ID'd WWI US Army Air Service Footlocker and original tray. This footlocker is id'd to T.W. KINNEAR, 1ST LIEUT. U.S. AIR SERVICE, AMER. EXPED. FORCES. 1st Lieutenant Thoburn Wright Kinnear was born 27 Oct 1891 in Kingsville, Ohio and died 20 January 1969 and is buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, California. He was a West Point Cadet, 3D Class, July 9, 1915 and WWI Veteran serving in France as part of the Air Service of the American Expeditionary Forces. I found his name in Aerial Age Volume 7, dated May 20, 1918: Kinnear, Thoburn W. FRF(On Duty Requiring Regular and Frequent Aerial Flights) I also found him in the book titled, The Battle Of Chatillon" A Graphic History of the Second Corps: Kinnear, Thoburn W. As you can see the trunk shows signs of age and use but frankly that is what I like about it. It has vestiges of travel labels as you can see in the pictures. All are in excellent condition for their age. These came from my old antique steamer trunk that I don't have anymore. I forgot the maker of the trunk. But it was marked made in 1913.

Wonderful Vintage Brass/Nail Head Designed/Wood Bodied Miniature Trunk
This is a wonderful piece of American folk art; it is a wooden trunk that is then"wrapped" in brass sheeting and brass straps( see pictures of the top lid; and then studded with silver nail heads of size; they add a beautiful proportion to the overall as well. I would date it early; 1850-1900 and midwest in origin. The hinges additionally are early; the latch and handles are also original to the piece. I think it is quite delightful. Measures 7 1/2" to the top of the dome; 7" across and 5 1/2" deep. Surface has a great; mellow and rich patina; it's a wonderful example that possibly a father made for his child; as their own special trunk or possibly something he made for his bride to be. Wonderful Dated "1900" Child's Lithographed Trunk
This is a little charmer; GREAT shape for it's age. It is dated on the bottom 1900 Oakes N. Dakota. Would be sweet for either use with a doll or teddy or a collection of these trunks together( I collect old luggage; miniature and actual size examples) This is a lithographed paper over wood body with wood strapping. The interior is MINT; which I think is rare to find. It has wear; but here's my thinking if you were from 1900 you'd have some wear too. Measures 14" in length and 9" to the tip of the hump to the top. Retains a working closure; original hinges AND handles. I personally love the surface; patterned; yet soft and mellowed. The trunk measures 21 ½” x 12 ½” x 7” deep and is 12 ½” high to the top of the dome, and has the initials GB or GE on the top in very small lettering. The top has some cracks in it from the drying of age, and a couple of small spots of green paint(see photos) construction looks to be all solid one piece pine boards, all solid and intact, hinges and top all tight and intact, with a beautiful aged patina. Up for auction is a World War 2 trunk full of memories and memorabilia. The trunk itself is still in good condition. It has not been cleaned or restored. It's in its original patina. Inside is a uniform, baby items, postcards, discharge information, a ration book, stamps, newspaper clippings, pictures, etc. A lot of this memorabilia is wrapped in period newspapers. This is an original WWII era trunk that belonged to Tuskegee Airman Joseph P Gomer. Joe Gomer was a member of the first African American fighter pilot group.This was his personal WWII era United States Military shipping trunk. It has his name on it on several places and also has shipping stickers. This comes from his long time Duluth Minnesota home. I found it in the garage. Joe Gomer is the last surviving pilot of the original Tuskegee WWII pilots. He has moved to an assisted living facility and this was his living estate sale. Joe Gomer was born in 1920. He enlisted in 1942 and got his wings in 1943. His training was at Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama. It was a new program by President Roosevelt to train black pilots. It's still usable and the locks on the front do work(to a degree) I don't have a key to the trunk and as you can see by the pictures. It needs a lot of work if you want it to be in pristine condition. I was told by my parents when my Grandpa died years ago that this was his personal trunk when we was in the Army and served in the Korean War. They said he had this before the War so that's why I've put the age Pre-1950's. Now. Whether that's true or not, I don't have any certifications or papers that go with this trunk. It's just a family story that you can decipher for yourselves as to the correct age of the trunk. He married'Fannie' Gifford in 1877 and at some point moved to Chicago. By 1879 he had opened a retail business selling various items for the home. Including"Parlor" style and"convertible" billiard tables- and a fine array of Singer sewing machines. Unlike other billiard table shops that simply resold and repaired tables. Mr. Akam did in fact design and manufacture some of his own tables. He even dabbled in sewing technology. Filing a patent for a"darning device" in 1880. See his patent records below. Description Up for your consideration is an Drucker and CO. Steamer trunk from the 1800's. I believe they made these to use as shipping cargo containers for the big ships. And I was told that the tar type of finish may be the original coating(no it's not sticky) The hardware on this trunk is fantastic as far as detail! There are some places on the trunk that have deteriorated through. Please see photos. I would however consider this to be a great peice to have, considering the quality of the build. This trunk is in good condition,it was manufactured by Bankhardt in the 1800s,the tag# is 95782 it has tapestry like material interior,5 drawers,5 hangers and a bag hanging on the lower right inside.i was actually going to use it as a toy box until I opened it and discovered the rareness.i spoke with the manager of bankhardt which has since moved to Montgomery rd. and he confirmed its rare and old.So ive decided maybe someone will get more enjoyment out of it than myself, there was one that went for 1200. a month ago on ebay. im only asking 200. and I would prefer for someone to pick it up but Im willing to ship it. it is pretty heavy though. if interested call 513-304-859 one. thanks so much for looking! The trunk itself is in very good structural condition. In fact, one of the leather handles is still present(and in good condition) and the rollers on the bottom of this chest still roll! This chest has all its original wooden slats and metal trim. The interior of this chest is also in very good condition. I am amazed at how well the removable upper compartment has held up and the interior wood looks real nice. ANTIQUE MILITARY TRUNK WWI THE PETTIBONE BROS MFG CO.
I only know what"my Guy" left in notes on this old trunk he had stashed in his shop and of course what I can read. There is a name and town on one end that is: Matthew Bendorf. Grass Valley, Cal. so I did a little research on that too. The notes I have say that this is a military uniform trunk from WW I era. But I cannot find a date on it to verify that. The research I did on the name would be inline with this era. There is a key that does work the lock but I have no idea if it is original only that it works. One of the outer straps is broken and needs mending however all the hardware part is there. The inside straps are great. This was made by The Pettibone Bros Mfg Co of Cincinnati, Ohio as you can see by the label inside. The Leather Handle on top also is marked with"The Pettibone Bros Mfg" also and attached with leather ... morebands. It measures 18" long, 10 1/2" wide/deep and 11 1/2" tall. There are some stains on the bottom inside. I believe it is wood with Leather edge trim and as covering that looks like very thin leather but may not be. Metal corners all good. It weighs about 10 lbs. Thank You.
