OLD HAND FORGED FOOD CHOPPER 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE, PRIMITIVE BEAUTIFULLY MADE
This is a wonderful hand forged. Blacksmith made food chopper. The shaft and blade are all one piece of metal which went through the handle. The iron was then pounded down from the top of the handle to secure everything in place. What I love about this chopper is that it is not symmetrical. The handle is at an angle. Maybe it was intentional and maybe it wasn't. We will never know. But all the other choppers(of this configuration) that I've seen have handles that are pretty straight on horizontal with the blade. Also the way the shaft tapers at each end to form the blade and then to go up into the handle. Whoever made this chopper certainly knew what he was doing. This chopper is 6 3/4" wide and 6 3/4" tall. Primitive African Ngoma Peg Drum #1
I've had this drum in my collection for quite some time. But I think it's time to find it a new home. I'm not sure if there will be any interest here, but we're about to find out. I have no idea of there age. Ngoma drums(also called ingoma or ng'oma) are used by certain Bantu-speaking peoples of East Africa; ngoma' is. Simply, the Swahili word for'drum' Different regions of Africa have their own traditions of percussion, with different names for their instruments. In kiSwahili-speaking Kenya and Tanzania, ngoma' is used by extension to signify specific dances, social occasions and rhythms. The drum is 21" tall with a 7" head most likely made of Wildebeeste. They are very heavy drums weighing somewhere around 20-25lbs.

Woven Abenaki Indian Basket Old estate find. This is one of seven baskets that I picked up from a collector. It is made of woven material, I think a thin grass and wood splints. It has a round shape with a handle on one side. In very good vintage condition, I do not know the age. I have shown in the photos a metal tag that says"Genuine Abenakis Indian Handicraft Trade Mark" The metal tag is not included in the sale. It measures 15 inches long. 7 1/2 inches wide, and 6 1/2 inches tall. This step stool has mortise and tenon joints and very few nails. The sides of the step stool have a scalloped design. The wood is stained a medium brown. This step stool was made by my grandfather probably for my mother who was born in 1906 in Montana. So this step stool is well over 100 years old. He carved his last name(Miller) on the underside of the stool. The wood has some cracks, but this step stool is usable. This step stool would be welcomed by a collector of American antiques. Sorry. I TRY TO MAKE AN ANNUAL PANAMA TRIP TO PURCHASE MOLAS AND VISIT FAMILY WHO LIVE THERE. I USUALLY HAVE ON HAND SOME VERY OUTSTANDING MOLAS. LOTS OF MOLITAS, AND A FEW OTHER KUNA ITEMS. ALSO A FEW ITEMS FROM NICARAGUA, ECUADOR, PERU, EL SALVADOR, GUATAMALA AND HAITI SO BE WATCHING FOR MANY BEAUTIFUL AND FUN PIECES OF ETHNIC ARTS AND CRAFTS. Sometimes questions arise about what is"authentic" when it comes to mola material and construction. The Kuna women love to use polyester or other man made fabrics for their own use. Those materials are long lasting and soft against their skin. Besides ... morethat. They tend to like the shiney look of some of the man made materials. Many Western buyers prefer 100% cotton. Thinking that it is more authentic. That is not necessarily so today. When I am shopping I try to buy cotton as much as possible, but only because many of my customers prefer that, not because that is more typical of the Kuna's own preferences. Most molas are still completely hand made and I do try to buy mostly hand made items. However. When the Kuna ladies have the option to use a sewing machine, they will do so. Many of the islands now have a generator and will have electricity for a few hours after dark. A very few women have a basic electric sewing machine and a few more have a tredle or hand crank sewing machine. For their own use they love to be able to do some of the long, straight stiching on a machine when they can. It makes the sewing faster and often stronger. Remember, molas are the everyday clothing of the Kuna women and girls. When you buy a mola, you are buying part of a woman's used clothing.
