This ancient antiquity is a Chupícuaro head fragment from a Chupícuaro fertility effigy. I bought this in San Miguel. Mexico( located in the ... morefar eastern part of the state of Guanajuato) at an estate sale in the early 1970s when I was living there during the summer. The effigy fragment still has remnants of red paint. The nose and mouth. And left side are broken off. It measures 1 ½ x 1 ¼ x ½ inch depth. Stand not included. There is also glue residue on the back as the fragment as it was once attached to a velvet backed display case. Chupícuaro(a pre-Horizon culture) fertility effigies were placed into the dirt by a Chupícuaro farmer during the planting season to appease the goods to insure a bountiful harvest. Subsequently. After centuries of being plowed or tilled over, the heads usually break off from the bodies. Chupícuaro Excerpt from Wikipedia. The free encyclopedia The Chupícuaro culture was located in the mountains of central Mexico and is named for the area in which the artifacts have been found. It is an important pre-Hispanic archeological site from the late pre-classical or formative period; located west of the Mexican Plateau. On the hills nearby the Lerma River and its tributary Coroneo or Tiger River; which currently under water because of the Solis dam. Just 7 kilometers from Acamaro in the Guanajuato State, near the Michoacán State border in Mexico Little is known about the history of this site. And it was not until 1946, due to a dam construction, that the first explorations were performed, discovering pottery objects and tombs. The place is currently below dam water, although there are surrounding areas still being explored. According to several sources. It is believed that this settlement developed between 500 BC and 300 AD, although some scientists suggest an older development, as far back as 800 BC. Establishing a firm chronology for Chupícuaro has been very problematic. Due to a lack of stratigraphic excavations and reliable C 14 dates.

Non Pre Columbian beads necklace, Ecuador folk art, pottery, artifact, tagua,
Striking beautiful Tagua nut natural seed beads dyed and sculpted into wonderful shapes as the locals have done for hundreds of years. They are made by the native population and sold at markets. We know this bead as pine ivory and it will be made and colored with a rainbow of dyes. Tagua is a large fruit with a big nut or seed which can be made for local ornaments. I bought thus near Otavalo market. In Cotacachi, Ecuador. This is a great big bead piece that will serve you or your woman as an introduction to any group. Good conversation. Good decor. Length about 24 inches without tassels. A unique and different experience. Important Ancient Pre-Columbian Jade Beads and Pendants (51) – Museum Quality
This auction is for an important collection of Pre-Columbian jade beads. Including several pendants. The beads are arranged on the string in a graduated order, with the largest beads and pendants closer to the center of the string. This string has a total of 51 beads, 13 of which are pendants, the non-pendant beads ranging in size from 11mm to 19mm. The large disk-shaped pendant at the center is 32mm in diameter. These are museum quality beads, and I recently acquired them from a world-class local estate collection. They are as found, with two tags on the string. The newer white tag is unmarked, the old toned and torn tag(which looks to be an antique itself) has a notation in fountain pen ink on it. Since the tag is half lost, the notation is incomplete, but on it, the beads are identified as Navajo. Please see the pictures. This item will ... morebe shipped Registered Mail. And insured for the purchase price. Note on shipping time: In our area. This year we are having the most trying and challenging winter weather that I have ever seen. With this in mind, please remember that extra time is sometimes needed for the mail to move, as roads are sometimes impassible. I ship as soon as possible once payment has been made(usually before, but certainly within the 2-day window) but my control of the situation ends there.

Please search the eBay website for items offered for sale by"zadaweed" bundle of 6 Precolumbian chief/ warrior fragments. Ancient Mexico. Chief#1 has both hands holding what I believe is the chief’s symbol of office which may include jade and quetzal feathers. Chief#2. Very faded, has headdress plumage to the left. Chief#3. Very faded, had headdress plumage straight up. 4 is a warrior with half of a round shield. 5 is the middle of a figure with his hand in position to hold a weapon or other object. 6 is half of a torso with a warrior’s ... morearm on his hip. Age- most likely 1.000 to 2,000 years old. Medium. clay. Ceramic, hard fired under great heat. Provenance. I collected precolumbian sculpture from 1965 through 1967 in Mexico when I was a teenager and- from 1966 through'67- as an anthropology student at the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. I found or bought these sculpture fragments in Mexican archaeological zones- when it was legal to do so; and brought them home to the U.S. when it was legal to do so. How to distinguish an authentic precolumbian sculpture from a fake: a) provinance; know the source; b) study precolumbian anthropology; see what's in the museums and the books; c) lick. Or otherwise wet, the object and see how long it takes to dry; ancient ceramics take a long time to dry because they are more porous than new ceramics.

I will either issue you a refund OR put the Difference in the Box. I acquired these Pieces in Mexico. In March 2007. The farmer told me that he found them on his land at some ruins. I am not sure what culture they belong to; but by the Looks of some ... moreof their Faces. I would suspect them to be Pre- Columbian Smurfs: I had to smuggle them out of Mexico; hidden in a spare tire. The Federally check point missed them; even though they Totally Tore Apart My Car. I do not believe them to be Thousands or even Hundreds of years old Artifacts; But. I did not want to take a chance. Most Likely they are replicas made by the Farmer. I have included pictures of the place where they were supposedly found. They would make EXCELLENT Garden accessories; or even display pieces in ones Study. They are made of some kind of Stone(like Sandstone) or an Anthropic Rock. There are no Chips or Cracks. The white markings you see on them are discolorations. The Pictures were taken in California in 2007; and they have been stored away ever since. There is no combined shipping. As EACH will need its own Large Flat Rate Box because of their Size. Any other Questions Please ask.
