Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a Pre-Columbian terracotta Standing Female Figure. From the Colima culture, ... moreWest Mexico. The area known archaeologically as West Mexico has long been recognized as a region of beautiful ceramic sculptures. Manifestations of a reverence for ancestors and a belief in the power of symbolism. These traits are recognized as characteristic of the cultural development of the region during the period from 300 B.C. to 400 A.D. the time of the Colima culture. Colima is best known for its finely finished red burnished effigies, both of humans and animals, especially dogs, and the solid small unburnished figurines, commonly called Colima flats. This beautifully modeled, solid archaic standing female figure is depicted wearing a headband, earrings and a necklace with multiple pendants. It measures 2 inches in width by 0.5 inches in depth by 6 inches in height(5.08 cm by 1.27 cm by 15.2 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with a Pre-Columbian dating, with a hairline cracks on both legs from previous repair work, but generally is in very good condition. It also comes with a specially designed, hand-made iron museum display stand for display. Guaranteed authentic, it would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. The famous mural artist Diego Rivera began his collection of Mexican pottery with small Colima figures- the collection later grew into a national treasure which was eventually housed in the Rivera Museum in Mexico City. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. Pre-Columbian cultures in Central America valued jade more than any other substance including gold. Looking at this incredible beauty of this authentic"axe god" pendant of the Greater Nicoya Pre-Columbian Culture leaves little doubt why. Where clay objects could be made with relative lack of special skill and produced in high volumes. Ground and polished stone objects required much more expertise and time to produce the glossy finishes seen. Furthermore, because of the extreme value placed on materials such as jade and serpentine, only the finest carvers were allowed to work with the material. The end result of this practice meant that carved and polished jade objects were ONLY within reach of the most wealthy and noble classes of Pre-Columbian tribes. This stunning treasure piece is made of jade. The workmanship is tops! With perforated holes still i

I only ship to the US. All items sold"AS IS" No returns. No refunds. PAY BY SATURDAY AND I WILL DO MY BEST TO SHIP ON MONDAY. My uncle always told me he had a substantial Pre-Columbian pottery collection. When he passed. I found a LOT of pottery in his house and brought most of it home with me. I am listing a few pieces weekly. He was very interested and educated in the various cultures and was fascinated with the artifacts they left behind. He traveled to South America twice a year from the 1960s-1990s and visited many ruins and historical sites– that’s about 40 years of collecting. He had very close friends in South America. I will be totally honest and say that I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PRE-COLUMBIAN POTTERY. He purchased many pieces from professional auction houses and many still have stickers on them from the auctions. If ... morethere is any paperwork with an item. I will include pictures of the paperwork. THE PICTURES SHOW EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT THE POTTERY. Please review the pictures carefully when deciding to bid. ANCIENT GOLD FIGURE, PRE COLUMBIAN FERTILITY CHARM?, TREASURE FIND, EFFIGY FIG.?
Gold tumbaga fertility figure aprox. 2"X1 1/4"X1" 62.9 g. Pre columbian? South American? Bought this some years ago on a whim in an auction that included ancient and medieval coins and artifacts of bronze silver and a couple other gold artifact. Seeing alot of Islamic coins in the lot I thought is may have been of ancient Islamic or Indian origin but when many of the items like a gold ring with a red glass stone turned out to be from the1100's along side roman fibulas 1st cent. and Islamic coins from 600 AD I new it wasn't a hoard find as advertised just a bunch of artifacts from a collection thrown together. I did have it looked at by a couple people and it was confirmed that it is old it is made of a gold alloy only used in south America called tombaga and was told it is probably from an area near Columbia given its ... morehigh gold content and is most likely a pre columbian fertility charm(which explains its rude nature) if you look between its legs in the pics. I don't no much else about it. Tumbaga is a gold copper and silver alloy that has a lower melting point then any of the metals on there own and is more malable. Its what the Spanish conquistadors were bringing back to Spain from south America after Columbus. It is NOT pure gold I was told some are as high as 90% and as low as 10% and this is most likely over 30% the rest is copper and silver. I held onto it all these years hoping one day someone would find one in Europe and I could say hey I got one of those, just fantasy though. Tumbaga was an alloy of gold and copper produced by pre-Columbian civilizations in South and Central America. The soft alloy has been. In some circumstances, found to contain as much as 97% gold, and was primarily used in the design of religious items. One reason for the metal's popularity was its ability to form an eutectic alloy- that is an alloy that melts at a lower temperature then any of its constituent metals. A mixture of 70 percent gold and 30 percent copper melts at about 1472ºF(800º

Rare, Exceptional Costa Rican 'stirrup handle' (Pre-Columbian?) pottery vessel

Amazing Pre-columbian Bead Collection Peru Bird & Human Effigies Gold ? Turquois
A very interesting collection of beads brought from Peru by a missionary in the early 1950's. I am not sure what age or time period they would be from. The stone beads appear to be from several different materials. The large ones are possibly turquoise or jade. The gold beads and effigies are of stamped metal. It's possible they have some gold content or are gold washed. As they show little signs of tarnish. I counted well over 300 beads total. The strand measures about 15" long. The face effigy measures 0.95" by 1.36" Please view our other auctions being listed over the next few days. We will be dispersing many artifacts from several recent collection acquisitions.
