Pre-Columbian Ancient Artifact Mayan Human Effigy Clay Pipe 1,000 A.D.
For your consideration is a recent auction purchase. This is an authentic Pre Columbian Mayan human effigy clay pipe that measures approx. 8" in length. I personally took this piece to an Antiques and Art Appraisal Fair on March 29th and paid for a verbal appraisal by an Antique Appraiser. This piece dates to or earlier than 1.000 A.D. This is a great ancient artifact with some cracks and a missing piece of ear which can be seen by the photos but the overall integrity of the piece is very good and amazing how in tact it is due to it's age! Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have. Free Insured Priority Shipping in the lower 48 States!

Weight is always the total weight of the object and may or may not give a good idea of the scrap value as I do not guess the weight of wood. Dogs were revered and respected in ancient Mexico's Indian culture. The"Colima Dog. a distant relative of the Mexican Hairless and the Chihuahua, may have been a pet, or it may have been fattened for eating- or both! Among the early colonial immigrants, a Jesuit Priest, Sahagún, examined and wrote of the things concerning the"new" lands of America. Regarding these dogs of Colima, which are generally portrayed as quite fat, even grotesquely so, but many of which have happy faces, he says, The dogs of this land have four names, called: Chichi, Itzcuintli, Xochiocoyotl, Tetlamin; and also tehuizotl… They raise other dogs that they call Xoloitzcuintli with no hair at ... moreall… There are other dogs that are called tlalchichi, short and round, that are very good to eat" It is believed that the hairless dogs. The Xoloitzcuintli, represented the god Xolotl, who had the task of guiding the dead on their journey to"Mictlan, that is, the Spirit World. The Aztecs believed that in order for the souls of the dead to reach"Mictlan" they had to cross the black river"Apanoayan" as well as overcoming other obstacles, and these hairless Xoloitzcuintlis had the task of guiding their human masters across this river, along with helping them overcome all the other difficulties on the journey. It is said that these red-colored dogs became the chosen guide because for a black dog to the perform the task, it was found to be difficult to distinguishing its black shape on a black river, in the murky underworld. When a white dog was approached as a substitute, that dog refused because it didn't want its coat soiled by the dark waters. The red dog then stepped up to the task and performed it well. Beautiful JADE PRE-AXE GOD PENDANT I will guarantee it to Period IV: 300 B.C. 500 A.D. Pre-Columbian cultures in Central America valued jade more than any other substance including gold. Looking at this incredible beauty of this authentic"axe god" pendant of the Greater Nicoya Pre-Columbian Culture leaves little doubt why. Where clay objects could be made with relative lack of special skill and produced in high volumes. Ground and polished stone objects required much more expertise and time to produce the glossy finishes seen. Furthermore, because of the extreme value placed on materials such as jade and serpentine, only the finest carvers were allowed to work with the material. The end result of this practice meant that carved and polished jade objects were ONLY within reach of the most wealthy and noble classes of Pre-Columbian tribes. This stunning treasure piece is made of jade. The workmanship is tops! With perforated h

Pre-Columbian Nazca Cordage Made Out of a Mammal Pelt with Very Soft Fur
Nazca Cordage Made Out of a Mammal Pelt with Very Soft Fur This item is piece of rope or cord that was made out of strips of leather pelts from a small mammal with very soft fur. Possibly a Chinchilla or a small rodent. The thickness of the rope is slightly more than 1 cm. There is some damage to the rope along the length and this can be seen in the photo below. It is not broken, but the rope is frayed, or thinned, in several locations. The construction technique is very unusual. It is a composite with thin strips of pelt wrapped around a central structural core. It is the only piece like this that I have ever seen. I am not sure of how the rope is used. Nazca religious art portrays a wide range of fantastic half-human, half-animal creatures, thought to be symbols of the most fearsome creatures inhabiting the earth, sky, and water. Also, more gruesomely, the Nazca portrayed disembodied heads, presumed to be trophy heads, on their pottery. The Nazca are most famous for the Nazca geoglyphs.
