DETAIL: Jade was widely used by primitive peoples as tools and weapons in the Neolithic. Especially in Europe, Mexico, Asia, New Zealand, and North Africa(including ancient Egypt) The best-known finds are from the lake dwellings of Switzerland, western France, and China. The source for Europe’s Neolithic jade remains undiscovered, but it was probably from a deposit in the Alps. Nephrite is very hard and was prized for keeping a sharp edge. In the Americas the Aztecs, Mayas, Olmecs, Toltecs, and other Pre-Columbian peoples of Mexico and Central America carved jadeite for use as ornaments, amulets, and badges of rank. Nearly all of these Meso-American jades are of various shades of green, with emerald green the most highly prized color among the Aztecs. The jade carvings range from plaques, figurines, small masks, pendants, to of course, tools and weapons. The widespread use of jade died out in Meso-America after the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. Here are two nice quality 19th century antique hand crafted/shaped/polished semi-precious jade gemstones. The gemstones were hand shaped and polished by a 19th century Russian artisan. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Pottery Animal Effigy Vessel artifact art COA
This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. Purchased from a good gallery, Arte Xibalba, who are experts in pre Columbian art and the piece comes with a COA. Usual surface scratching and tiny scrapes. No cracks or restoration. Just a very nice ... morecollector's piece. Culture: Jalisco. Mexico. CA: 200BC-300AD. Size: 81/2 inches long. 41/2 inches tall, 3 inches wide. Large pre columbian Chimu Llama Victim Stirrup vessel with T.L. test Document!!!
Great pottery of the Chimu culture in the form of a reclining llama victim; and good to see is the sign of the female llama by the butt. Who knows the importance of this animal knows why like llama ceramics were taken in another life. At this ceramic impressed me the fine workmanship of the details. You can even see the fine hooves and the great nose. There were probably some people no difference in value because of the makers of these ceramics, the female Llama has even put on a kind of throne, or is it a sacrificial stone? At the sink sits a small monkey. The stirrup was broken and is replaced, otherwise very nice. A beautiful illustration of probably the only and most valuable domestic animal of the Andean cultures. Rare & Important Pre-Columbian Maya/Jaina Figure w/ROGERS COA
Here is an unusual hollow ceramic figural whistle in the form of a garbed standing figure holding a large rasp or percussion instrument in the crook of his right arm. A striker in his left hand. Most significantly, he wears a duck-bill buccal(mouth) mask. Pre-Columbian representations of humans wearing duck-bill masks are rare but not entirely unknown. The best-known example is the“Tuxtla Statuette” now in the Smithsonian Institute. Another“human/duck” combination exists on alter 7 at La Venta. And a third is found on monument 5 at Cerro de Las Mesas. The most recently-published example was uncovered in Chiapas; a ceramic jar dating to 1400-1250 B.C.E. depicts a human upper face with a duck beak projecting from just beneath the nose. It appears likely that this figure is either a mythical being(note the pronounced eyebrows and cheeks) or ... morea shaman in the process of transforming into zoomorphic form. Birds. Especially migrating birds, were believed to carry the soul of a deceased person to the resting place of the dead. Referring to the human/duck-bill relationship, Robert Rosenswig has written, It is also significant that this mythical being. And/or religious specialist dressed as a duck, has now been documented from the nearly the beginning of ceramic use in Mesoamerica and so may even have a preceramic origin. Calcareous accretions and traces of“Maya Blue” pigment adhere to the figure. Which measures 5.5" 14 cm) x 3" 7.6 cm) x 2.25" 5.7 cm) Legs restored and in very good overall condition. JAINA ISLAND. Formerly known as the ACNA Foundation Collection, and exhibited nationally as part of the National Association of Private Art Foundations Collections, the Colker collection is dated from as early as the pre-Classic period, 2000-250 B.C.E. to the Classic period, 200 to 900 C.E, and the post-Classic period, from 900 to 1500 C.E. The collection's scope includes finely modeled clay tomb figures representing cultural and artistic production throughout Mesoamerica(the Mexican, Maya and Central American peoples) and more specifically: west Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, the Yucatán Peninsula and Honduras. The collection is distinguished by joined pair of figures, Zacatecas style, from Jalisco, West Mexico, 100-300 B.C.E. earthenware, 18 x 11 1/2 x 16 inches. Permanent Collection 2000.113. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POLYCHROME HEAD FRAGMENT AUTHENTIC 4 1/2 " POTTERY
PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR FRAGMENT HEAD POLYCHROME ANCIENT This is an authentic(not a reproduction) ancient pre columbian polychrome head fragment from Ecuador. In close inspection there are traces of black manganese deposits and what appears to be tiny crystals in the clay. These are so small you almost need a jewelers loupe to see them but they reflect in the light. The clay is a yellowish color with original red paint on the face and one side. The top of the head is arched backward as you can see from the side view. It is missing the long piece of what appears to be a headdress on the right side but the rest of the head seems in excellent condition. There is a hole in the top of the head on the edge still with soil in it and you can see the debris still in the mouth and eyes. The head is hollow. It measures 4 1/2 inches over the top of the ... morehead to the chin. 2 3/4" across the crown with the face itself is 2 x 1 1/2" The opening on the underside allows the figure to be suspended and mounted. It is suspended i on a lucite stand only to display and photograph it in the upright position as it will not stand on its own. The nose has a long rounded cut underneath that seems intentional as I have other figures with the nose the same making the it protrude. This appears to be a female head with earrings. It is very three dimensional when viewed from the side with heavy lidded yes. Erotic Precolumbian sculpture; Colima, Mexico, female nude, pre-columbian art
2.000 year old gingerbread woman(1) Very rare example of erotic Precolumbian art. This is a Colima gingerbread woman. West Mexico, 1,800-2,200 years old. Terracotta sculpture- in a style similar to other Colima. Classic period(200 B.C. 200 A.D. flat, standing, nude females(which can be seen on the internet by searching for"Precolumbian Colima sculpture" except that this one has a huge mons and buttocks. Other features include: otherwise flat profile; small breasts; pouty. Open lips; stylized. Minimalist face; ear rings; hair in 2 buns on top of head; thick neck; broad shoulders; truncated hands and feet; and orange clay color slightly mottled from uneven heat in firing and/or age(particularly visible on the back) Comparables sell for about $4.000 at Christie's Auction House. 2) Dimensions. 6 inches high(about 16 centimeters) ... more3) Condition. Mint. Pristine, museum quality. 4) Provenance. I bought this sculpture in 1967 from a source I trusted who I met in the home of my friend Kurt Stavenhagen in Mexico City when I was an anthropology student at the Universidad de las Americas. Kurt Stavenhagen was a Wikipedia-worthy collector of Precolumbian sculpture to whom I was introduced by Ferdinand Anton- a German anthropologist and photographer who filmed my family exploring the Maya ruins at Chichen Itza in 1964 for a movie he made for Time/ Life Magazines and German television which compared modern art. Such as Picasso and Henry Moore, with ancient art like the Maya. I also studied how to distinguish an authentic precolumbian sculpture from a fake: 1) provenance; know the source; 2) study precolumbian anthropology; see what's in the museums and the books; 3) lick. Or otherwise wet, the object and see how long it takes to dry; ancient ceramics take a long time to dry because they are more porous than new ceramics. 5) Shipping. No charge for a U.S. address. $10 off if you purchase more than one listing and I can ship more than one item in one package. There is ONE $10 discount. Even if you purchase

Ancient Pre Columbian Proto Classic Nayarit Pottery Warrior Figure - 100 BC
A large and imposing ancient pre-Columbian Nayarit terracotta figure of a warrior. Dating to the Proto-Classic period, 100 BC– 250 AD. The standing male figure is shown naked. Coloured with a deep ochre pigment and wearing only a series of arm rings, prominent belt and pointed cap. Supported on enormous claw-like feet, the broad, square torso imbues him with the physical makeup of a warrior. One arm is raised brandishing a club, the other extended slightly forward and bent at the elbow, holding a small shield. The head is marked by sunken almond eyes, a prominent nose and parted lips revealing large grinding teeth. The ears and nose are pierced with multiple rings, a painted necklace is also present. The staring eyes are disturbing and discordant. Yet almost impossible to tear away from. An overpowering wrath bleeds from the very fabric of ... morethis striking warrior. There is something visceral in his bearing, defying reason, he appears in a seemingly trance-like fury, speaking to a very ancient place inside our psyche. Nayarit figures form part of the mysterious shaft tomb culture of ancient western Mexico. Displaying all aspects ancient life, from ritual ceremonies to grand feasts, warriors to simple family scenes. While the subject matter was relatively consistent throughout the entire region, style distinctions are present. This figure is of Nayarit's Ixtlán del Río style, the westernmost of all Nayarit sites, which is characterized by highly stylized facial features and thick, stocky limbs. Little is known about ancient Nayarit life beyond these enigmatic figures and the society itself remains a mystery. The discordant facial expressions of figures such as this have in some quarters been advanced as evidence of shamanism. Haunting and intense. Their true identity remains lost in the distant, unknown past. Height: 27 ½ inches. Condition: Very good. Minor restoration throughout, including to right arm and foot, one toe missing(as shown) head reattached. Beautiful pigment preservation, overall goo
Ancient Pre - Columbian Chancay Culture Pottery Llama Vessel - 1200 AD
A published and exhibited pre-Columbian(Chancay culture) earthenware figure in the form of a llama. Dating to 1000- 1435 A.D. This hollow figure of a llama stands on four stubby legs. With the large egg shaped body acting as a humorous counterpoint to the undersized head. The doe eyed facial expression conveys a sense of almost child-like naivety, the ears have been pierced and would likely have been further decorated in antiquity. Most Chancay vessels display an elementariness of form and the seemingly spontaneous application of painted decoration as shown in this piece. Though its specific purpose is now a mystery. It is possible that such vessels were made as toys for children. Little is known of the Chancay society. But evidence indicates that it represented a small regional state made up of several ethnic groups inhabiting the coasts, ... moredesert lands and valleys of central Peru between 1000-1435 A.D. The Chancay are best known for their astonishing and unique craftsmanship that valued a high level of personalisation in decorative style. Producing woodworks. Textiles and ceramics, Chancay style artefacts are prevalent across central Peru. This enigmatic society traded their goods widely with other regions either by land towards the Peruvian highlands and jungle or by sea to the north and south of their borders. As such, though the society does not appear to have wielded significant political power, the skill of their craftsmen appears to have been respected and admired. The artisan who produced this piece would have been under the control of the local kuraka(clan leader) Who regulated the production activities of the various specialists, farmers and festive activities within his community. A charming piece of pre-Columbian art. Condition: Very good. Some minor restoration to right hind quarter. It has been perforated in the middle of the back during antiquity. This piece bears its original inventory sticker on the base. Length: 14 1/4 inches. Exhibited: The City Art Centre. Edinburgh, Scotland August 15th,

8 ANCIENT PRE-COLUMBIAN TAIRONA INDIAN RED JASPER STONE TUBE BEADS for NECKLACE
My mother recently passed and these belonged to her. Unfortunately I do not know a whole lot about them except for what I could find online. The largest bead is 1 1/2 inch long and the smallest is 1/2 inch. She collected these necklaces through her life and some broke and these are a few of the beads. I know she paid thousands for some of the necklaces. I found one box still unopened and the paper on it reads"Ancient Artifact- Sinu Culture(C. 200 b.c. 1000 a.d. Authentic beads of pre-columbian origin found at about 2.000ft elevation, Andes Mountains(Sierra Nevada range, Santa Marta, Columbia) of South America. Please message me with any questions

Pre-Columbian Style Blackware Mayan Culture Male Deity Figure Ancient Headdress
Pre-Columbian Style Blackware Mayan Culture Male Deity Figure Ancient Headdress_ Item Description: This sale is for a piece of unique. Rather bizarre statue of a Mayan Culture Diety, with a functional headdress[bowl] with creepy eyes that roll around in his head. Maker/Year: I am no expert in Pre-Columbian Pottery; therefore. I am making no claims of its authencity. I will just add that to my untrained eye, it looks to be a very good replica of a piece from that era; but, it does appear old, perhaps not Pre-Columbian, though. Pottery is unsigned. Material: Clay and Iron[metal sticks. Lightly] Dimensions: 9"H.5"Dia. Weighs about 1-3/4Lbs. Provenance: Purchased from an estate auction- I have no further information about this piece. Condition: The left hanging earlobe has a small chips. As shown in photos. The piece was thoroughly ... moreexamined for other chips and cracks- none found. This is a good condition piece. It has collected a lot of dirt/dust, which I will not attempt to remove- leaving to new owner. Comments: The color of this piece is hard to capture with my camera. It is a Blackish/Redish/Deep. Almost Brown.Black That is why I likened it to the Blackware process. The finish is also refined and smoothed- looks to have a coat of paint, or polished to a sheen? Don't know what the rolling eyes are made of. THIS ITEM SHIPS FREE VIA USPS PARCEL SELECT(WILL BE PACKED SECURELY. TO ARRIVE AS DESCRIBED. Pre-Columbian Clay Mayan Culture Male Deity Figure Ancient Headdress Creepy Eyes_ Item Description: This sale is for a piece of unique. Rather bizarre statue of a Myan Culture Diety, with a functional headdress[bowl] with creepy eyes that roll around in his head. Maker/Year: I am no expert in Pre-Columbian Pottery; therefore. I am making no claims of its authencity; except it looks like other pieces I researches. Take a look at my other piece in this week's auction. It appears to be a replica of this older. Possibly Pre-Columbia piece. Both were found together. Pottery is unsigned. Material: Clay and Iron. There is a trace amount of iron in this piece. Barely detected with magnet. The other piece in my auction has more iron content. Dimensions: 6-1/2" H.6-1/2" Dia.Weighs about 1-1/2Lbs, Provenance: Purchased from an estate auction- ... moreI have no further information about this piece. Condition: This piece is in"Fair" Replica, worn condition, has a 4" break in back, which I believe is his right back arm; the eyes are a bit off; particularly, the right one- it is not easily seen from the front as the left one; the pottery has signs of wear/fading finish, but no other breaks or cracks, beside the arm, in back. Otherwise, a fair example of the unusual piece, with moving eyes. Comments: THIS ITEM SHIPS FREE VIA USPS PARCEL SELECT(WILL BE PACKED SECURELY. TO ARRIVE AS DESCRIBED. Rare Matched Set of Copper Earspools Pair Pre-Columbian Indian Artifact Hopewell
HERE IS AN AMAZING SET OF EARSPOOLS THAT CAME OUT OF A TENNESSEE COLLECTION. I PURCHASED THESE AS BEING FROM THAT AREA, BUT AM NOT CERTAIN IF THEY ARE FROM AROUND THERE OR FROM SOUTH AMERICA. THEY ARE 110% GUARANTEED ANCIENT AND AUTHENTIC FOR LIFE, UNQUESTIONABLE AGE AND PATINA, BUT PROVING WHERE THEY WERE FOUND IS HARD TO DO. ONE MAN'S WORD IS ALL I HAD TO GO ON AND I LIKE THEM NO MATTER WHAT SO I MADE THE PURCHASE. THEY WERE ONCE WOOD COVERED WITH COPPER. BUT THE WOOD INSIDE IS ALL GONE, THEY ARE NOW HOLLOW, AWESOME PAIR OF ARTIFACTS THAT ARE UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC FOREVER, BUT I CANNOT GUARANTY THE ORIGIN. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED WITH THESE. THEY LOOK IDENTICLE TO SOME I HAVE SEEN PICTURED FROM THE TENNESSE, ARKANSAS, ALABAMA AREAS. BUT THEY ALSO LOOK JUST LIKE SOME I HAVE SEEN FROM SOUTH AMERICA AS WELL.

Pre-Columbian Artifact Tlapacoya Clay Female Figure
Rare Tlapacoya female head and torso. Head is not from this torso. However. This head and torso are so similar that on the same stand, they can be very easily read as one figure. Both head and torso are incredibly detailed. Head has clearly delineated headdress, eyes, nose, pierced ears, and mouth. Torso shows definite breasts and navel with"balloon-type" legs. Together they form a very distinct figure.

XRARE SAUL VTG MEXICO MEXICAN STERLING SILVER PRE-COLUMBIAN NECKLACE & EARRINGS
XRARE SAUL VTG MEXICO MEXICAN STERLING SILVER PRE-COLUMBIAN NECKLACE& EARRINGS Description This is a relist due to non-payment. This is an EXQUISITE sterling silver necklace and screwback earring set that was hand wrought in Mexico. Circa late 1940's(no Eagle assay mark) by the well documented master silver artist, SAUL. This iconic demi parure is masterfully crafted in a classic pre-Columbian motif that has a great art deco look! The necklace consists of sterling silver links that have incised designs, Greek Key designs, hand chasing, and a multitude of teeny tiny silver bead accents. The clasp is a simple hook closure that is seen on much of the early Mexican jewelry. The earrings are made just ... morelike the links of the necklace ~ the screwback findings work as they should. The silver has acquired a wonderful, soft patina that reflects the shadows created by the depth of the designs. This demi parure is extremely well made in a timeless and sophisticated design that will always be in style ~ it is collector and heirloom quality, quite simply, THE BEST! SIZE: Necklace: Inside circumference when closed is 15-1/4" and I am including two 3" silver extenders(one is connected to the hook portion of the clasp and the other is connected to the opposite end of the clasp and you hook the two together/please see photo) which increases the wearable size to 18-1/4" I have included photos of my marketing assistant wearing the necklace with and without the extenders) Width is 5/8" and weight is 81.3 grams.
