This ancient antiquity is a Chupícuaro head fragment from a Chupícuaro fertility effigy. I bought this in San Miguel. Mexico( located in the ... morefar eastern part of the state of Guanajuato) at an estate sale in the early 1970s when I was living there during the summer. The effigy fragment still has remnants of red paint. The nose and mouth. And left side are broken off. It measures 1 ½ x 1 ¼ x ½ inch depth. Stand not included. There is also glue residue on the back as the fragment as it was once attached to a velvet backed display case. Chupícuaro(a pre-Horizon culture) fertility effigies were placed into the dirt by a Chupícuaro farmer during the planting season to appease the goods to insure a bountiful harvest. Subsequently. After centuries of being plowed or tilled over, the heads usually break off from the bodies. Chupícuaro Excerpt from Wikipedia. The free encyclopedia The Chupícuaro culture was located in the mountains of central Mexico and is named for the area in which the artifacts have been found. It is an important pre-Hispanic archeological site from the late pre-classical or formative period; located west of the Mexican Plateau. On the hills nearby the Lerma River and its tributary Coroneo or Tiger River; which currently under water because of the Solis dam. Just 7 kilometers from Acamaro in the Guanajuato State, near the Michoacán State border in Mexico Little is known about the history of this site. And it was not until 1946, due to a dam construction, that the first explorations were performed, discovering pottery objects and tombs. The place is currently below dam water, although there are surrounding areas still being explored. According to several sources. It is believed that this settlement developed between 500 BC and 300 AD, although some scientists suggest an older development, as far back as 800 BC. Establishing a firm chronology for Chupícuaro has been very problematic. Due to a lack of stratigraphic excavations and reliable C 14 dates.

Pre-Columbian Guatemalan green jade skull- Crystal, great patina
Very impressive skull. Great form. Pre-Columbian cultures didn't carve just crystal skulls. They also carved them from other minerals. I bought it years ago from a Mexican picker who also sold me a lot of pottery as well. He wouldn't tell me what region he got it from. Maybe he didn't know. Who knows how many hands this has gone thru before it got to me. Lots of extra work to hollow it out. I was told my a Mexican Shaman that it was used to"energize" items that were put inside. The outside of the skull was obviously polished somewhat and cleaned to show off the jade. Fortunately. They didn't polish the inside so you can see the extensive mineralization. It's an attractive piece. 4" x 4" x 6 1/2" 4 Lbs. 1.1 Oz. RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*3A%3Cd%3Ff6%3E-1446730f4f4-0x107-

The Chorotegas(which translates to"fleeing people" migrated around A.D. 500 from Southern Mexico into the Nicoya Peninsula to escape ... moreslavery. Their customs, language and calendar were largely influenced by more advanced cultures of Mexico and Guatemala. The influence of the Mayans was evident in their written language and use of a calendar, while their spoken language, Nahua, is distinctly Aztec in origin. The Chorotegas excelled at farming, growing abundant harvests of corn, as well as cotton, beans, fruits and cacao. The latter was originally introduced to Costa Rica by the Chorotegas, and they used its seeds as currency. The land was communally owned and harvests were divided according to need. This assured that even those unable to maintain crops, such as widows or the elderly, were provided for. Like most of the advanced, early Latin American civilizations, the cities of the Chorotegas often featured central plazas with a marketplace and religious center. Pre Columbian Nayarit warrior, artifact, pottery, vessel, relic, antiquity, COA
Great figure of authentic Pre Columbian terra cota figure of what appears to be a warrior with shield. It has been noted he may be a ball player because he is in act of throwing what may be a ball. However the ball games in much of Mexico were played with a larger ball and with the shield I believe he is warrior. Throwing a rock. In any event, he is in action. Most of the similar items I've seen have the man with a sword so this is a rare form. Piece is in good condition with good manganese deposits. This is a Western Mexico piece from Nayarit culture. Purchased from Artemis Gallery. Dealers in antiquities and a COA is available on request. Wonderful collector's piece. 6 1/2 inches tall. 5 inches long and 3 inches wide. EFFIGY HEAD PENDANT, COSTA RICA, PRE-COLUMBIAN
EFFIGY HEAD PENDANT. COSTA RICA. PRE-COLUMBIAN Height: 2 1/2" Width: 2" Depth: 1 1/4" Weight: 6.1 oz This stone effigy head pendant was acquired at a private Bel Air estate mansion sale. The owner. A former 1960s television producer, had an extensive collection of Costa Rican antique stone tools, ceremonial pieces, and grinding stone bowls. This is an absolutely RARE and highly unusual stone pendant. Carved from a green-tinted stone. This artifact has grooves etched into the face, revealing a prominent, triangular nose, grooved lips and left ear. Examining this piece closely reveals the pendant holes drilled into the top/rear of the piece. When dangled from a string the entire effigy head lists to the right-now, note the right ear area: it is severely worn down, no doubt due to years of swinging/ rubbing against sweat infused ... morechest-skin. Minor abrasion streaks and wear/use patterns. Some chinks/dings along rear. The piece is DAMNED heavy to be wearing around the neck for long periods. But that is exactly what the wear-patterns on this artifact suggest. Why bother? This pendant is clearly an effigy piece, perhaps of an ancestor/god to offer protection.from enemies in battle? Something drove this person to attach this dangling stone from his/her neck. This is an ASTONISHINGLY RARE. Clearly personal neck ornament used by ancient Mayans in the Costa Rican area at some dim, prehistoric past time. Own what another owned! Posted with

RARE- ONE OF A KIND- ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIND PRE-COLUMBIAN STAMP / SEAL (SELLO)
PRE-COLUMBIAN STAMP SEAL This is a fine Museum quality pre-Columbian stamp seal.Sello)Its thought these artifacts were used to decorate the surfaces of pottery. Clothes, and even temporary tattos. But a new theory has been set forward, and that is these were used to decorate Bread and food.I believe, Thats probably true as well.Know one really knows for sure.We do know, the use of these type of seals were widespread in Mesoamerican parts of the Caribbean, and in the intermediate areas between Mesoamerica and the central Andes in South America. The use of these tools in Mesoamerica began about 1500BC, during the pre-classic period.Plus a large number of seals have also been found at Olmec site in the same Gulf Coast region from the same area. This sello is in remarkable museum condition.Plus it depicts a fantastic image of a flapping bird man.Look ... moreclose at the listing photos.I could have used Bird Man God effigy. But, The one who says they know exactly what this depicts, is really only guessing even educationally. So I wont. Its just a little over an inche in diameter, and about 5/8th inches deep. This is an authentic pre-Columbian stamp seal. The perimeter of age could be anywhere from 1500BC to 1600AD.Thats guaranteed. My guesses are not but. I would say its much closer to the 1500BC than AD.Check listing photos and questions asked are answered quickly. If interested in this piece, please read on. Pre Columbian Pottery? (2 small bowls)
I am not an antiquities dealer. I bought these at an auction from the estate of a world traveler and antiquities collector. I do not have a COA. But I do have some experience dealing with such items and I believe they are authentic. I cross-checked with books and online resources and they seem to be from Costa Rica/Panama in the Diquis-Tarrago style Ca 1000AD based on comparisons. I know little about the owner, except they did travel throughout central American during their lifetime(based on other items in the estate) Condition is fairly good considering the age. No cracks in the bowls that I can see, just some chips around the edges.

Pre Columbian beads, necklace style with antique clay beads, pottery, artifact
Handsome arrangement of antique native clay beads with a pre Columbian stone pendant. This is another combination of old and new together for a sharp wearable piece. The other spacers and restrung clasps are all new as is the cord. The stones are lovely pastel shades and easy to look at with a simply stated elegance. The colored clay stones are probably North American. About 1-200 years old and the stone is Pre Columbian, but I don't know the culture but likely 500-1000 years old. Created and designed by Elaine Teevens of the Bead Corner. Monument Colorado. We offer a piece by Encore by Design; Wearing History. See the others and more will be posted soon. About 18 inches in length. Please view pics and ask questions Inca Treasures LTD
