18th Century Silver and Gold Spanish Mission Chalice
This auction is for a beautiful. 18th century silver and gold spanish chalise. It is marked with the date 1759 and the initials G. B. S. It is 11 inches tall and the base is 5 1/4 inches wide. The inside still has most of it's original gold gilting. The engraving and repose is very crisp, it has not been overcleaned or buffed. It has a very nice old patina. The ball and cross are solid gold, althoug I am not sure of the Karat. It doesnot show well in the pucture but Jesus is pinned to the cross not soldered. The only thing that I believe is not original to the piece is the nut in the bottom, it looks too modern. I believe this piece is a california Mission piece. Souvenir Sea Shell Candle Holder: Crucifix. Mission Capistrano, California
Nice vintage souvenir religious candleholder. Mission San Juan Capistrano. Size: 9 3/4" high and 7" wide. The base is molded plaster with two shells set into it, one on each side of the frosted glass candleholder. I think that the crucifix is plaster or ceramic but that is just a guess. The frosted glass candleholder has no evidence of having had a candle burned in it and it says Made in Taiwan on the base. Whether that candleholder actually came with this piece, or was added later, is in question. The crucifix has a bit of color loss near the bottom. There is a spot on the molded plaster base, just to the lower left of San where there is some plaster loss. It could had color added to it fairly easily if you wanted to correct that. In my opinion on the basic grading scale I would rate this book as GOOD condition. It may be worse. It may be better in your opinion. Comic book is SOLD AS IS. Cover has some edge wear and a small tear at top. Cover also has some letters written in ink on it. All pages are tight and intact. Staples are not rusted. They are intact and holding the book together well. Book will be shipped in plastic sleeve and padded with cardboard. Not a typical shape but an extraordinarily limited piece of Niloak Swirl Pottery! The distinct bold swirls of cream. Blue and tan clays used by the potter are enhanced with narrow swirls of brown. Note that this piece DOES NOT have any of the red clays traditionally found in Niloak Pottery. The clay predominately used in the making of the lid is dark brown with a small amount of tan and cream.
