Beautifully handcrafted by hans Jensen. A Denmark silversmith, this hand mirror is complete with a charmingly scrolled handle. The back of the mirror depicts a pastoral scene. The mirror is excellent quality and is in very good antique condition with only minor scratching around one section of the slightly beveled edge. This would make an affordable. Unique and lovely Christmas gift. This piece may be silver plated. Feel free to research the hallmark. This is quite a pocket mirror. It is literally gem mint with no defects whatsoever and the celluloid is crisp and bright and glossy and exceedingly well made. The size is the standard 2 1/4 inches but I have never seen anything like this before as it is has the weight of a paperweight mirror but not the size. This is awesome and I assure you will be thrilled with your purchase. I have never had a pocket mirror from Beaumont as it is a tough town in a very collectible state. The box is made from French first standard silver. Which has a purity of 950. It is worth noting that this is a higher purity than sterling, which is 925. The exterior of the box is covered in beautiful light blue enamel, with fine machine turnings visible underneath. The lid has wreath and ribbon decorations in iridescent orange and green enamel. The center of the lid has a design of a basket and crossed broom and spear in shiny metallic enamel. The interior of the box has a rich gold wash. The enamel is flawless. With no chips, no losses, and no problems whatsoever. The lid snaps shut well. The hinge of the lid is in great shape. The mirror has some discoloration around the edges, but the center is still clear and entirely useable. The puff is clean and in good shape. There are no breaks, and no repairs. Antique Celluloid Compact & Mirror HISTORIC Photo RICHMOND VIRGINIA- WASHINGTON
Greetings. And welcome to our auction for this wonderful find. A Historic mid to late 19th century scene adorns this celluloid Photo/Print Compact or powder pot made by Cruver manufacturing Co. in Chicago. Il. Made and reprinted in the early 20th century. This little compact or rouge pot was probably made 1910-1925. It is in very nice condition and has the original mirror inside(see pics for condition of mirror) The Celluloid is exceptional for its age. The very clear scene on the top. Sealed in celluloid(much like the collectible celluloid photo/ad buttons) says"Washington Headquarters Richmond, VA. with the Cruver logo beneath it, in original sepia tone with a little added green coloration to the trees, and shutters in the photo, by the manufacturer(by hand) Celluloid items have long been collectible. And Cruver Co. has produced some ... moreof the most collectible in this category. This one has been very well preserved. And shows almost no wear. It is in really quite amazing condition for being celluloid almost 100 yrs old. The only blemish to the photo area is a small air pocket separation of the clear celluloid from the photo(less than dime sized) that cannot be seen unless it is tilted to the light just right(see pics) Another very small stain is at the very top, that looked at first like a cloud, but upon close inspection, I could tell that it was a tiny stain(maybe from original tinting) The box, lid and mirror are all in excellent physical condition, with no damage of any perceivable kind other than what has been specifically noted and pictured. I am not a celluloid expert. And have gathered much of the historical info on this piece from the History of the Cruver manufacturing co, which apparently made many photo based items for use as political& advertising buttons, collectibles and early travel souvenirs during the 1900's-1930's. We are unsure of when the original photo was produced but the clothing style and other clues(see closeups) would place it much earlier(before the turn of the century)
