The actual designer of this piece is undetermined but John Widdicomb had some of the best designers of the era making furniture for the company such as T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings and George Nakashima. This item features wonderful sculpted feet. With 10 dovetailed drawers for ample storage, and stunning bookmatched wood grain that is beautifully displayed at the joining of the top and sides of the dresser as seen in image#7 and#20. This bookmatching technique ... moretakes a highly skilled craftsman to make the veneer from the top and sides appear to be one continuous piece. Even the back of this dresser is very well constructed as pictured. The high style original solid brass star hardware are the perfect accent to this remarkable piece of furniture. I don't know what was wrong with me when I photographed this piece-maybe I was just stunned at the fact that one of the glass globes is missing on this otherwise enviable find. I usually take decent photos. But this was difficult to capture, for some reason. I can see this Mid-Century Modern Era Chandelier working quite well with the Arts& Crafts Style Interior- anyway. What a perfectly wonderful Eames Era Chandelier! The globe cups and stems are copper. Stylishly melded with black iron vertical spears and other fixture elements which makes for such a cool combination that it makes you shake a little all over when you discover the piece. I have no doubt-with the thousands of glass globes available on eBay-that you will be able to find the replacement globe-if not. A set of similar globes are surely to be found. Mid-Century Modern Paul McCobb Cane Headboard Calvin Furniture Inc. Paul McCobb Paul McCobb(June 5. 1917– March 10, 1969) was a modern furniture and industrial designer. McCobb was born in Medford, Massachusetts to Raymond and Winifred McCobb. Both his father and mother were born in Massachusetts although neither family originated there. His father's family being from Maine and his mother's family from Ireland. His father was employed in 1920 as a Salesman in"Men's Furnishings" Knowing from a very early age that he wanted to be an artist. McCobb studied art, drawing and painting at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston,although he did not complete his course there. Here is my Large Glass and Silver Water Pitcher. It was a given to me as a gift back in 1955 and was used for Special Occasion Formal Dinners. It stands about 11 inches tall and holds about 4 Quarts(1 Gallon) of Water. The Lid Diameter is about 4 1/2" The Maker Mark at the underside of the Lid reads E L Germany. There is also a small mark beneath that which I think might possibly be W M F within a little‘house-type’ figure. You can see it in the photo of the mark. I actually ... morealways thought it was Sterling. But when I was preparing this listing, I was quite surprised to not be able to find anything saying Sterling or 925. I did try using a Magnet on the Silver and although the Magnet does Not stick, I have been told that it still might not be Sterling and that an acid test is the best way to determine that. It is for that reason that I am Not calling it Sterling. It has good weight and is a really substantial piece. When you hold it you just can feel the fine quality and workmanship. The Clean Lines and interesting curves to the glass all contribute to that lovely Mid Century Modern look that it embodies. It is in lovely condition although the Silver could use a good Polishing. That’s one of the reasons I’ve decided to sell this Pitcher as well as some other of my beautiful older things. At this point in my life I’d rather leave the fussing and polishing to a younger person who will love and enjoy it as I have for all these years. As you may well know, Eaton's was a high end department store in Canada ~ sadly no longer in business. The dish measures 10.75 inches(27 cm. X 6.25(16 cm. and is in very good vintage condition ~ just a few light scratches that one would expect and certainly nothing that detracts from its appeal. 2 Pieces Vintage Eames Era Barkcloth 54" by 84" Ultra Modern Mid Century Cool!!
These super modern pieces of vintage barkcloth were once part of a huge curtain that I bought many years ago. I used some of the fabric to make curtains for the bedroom in my vintage Airstream camper. I'd planned to use these pieces to make bedspreads but decided to go with a solid instead because sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. These pieces each measure approximately 54" long& 84" wide made up of pieces sewn together. Quite a bit of fabric here. Would make some swell pillows. Short cafe style curtains& maybe just enough to cover some cushions for that rattan set on the porch. Now. While this fabric is in great shape- it has been in my storage for several years. There's just a slight musty"old fabric" smell. I do notice these things probably more than most. I've been collecting vintage ... moretextiles for over 20 years& it doesn't really bother me that much. Vintage Pair Drapes 31 x 85 Lace Overlay Mid Century Modern Op Art Pleated MCM
Here is a great and unique vintage pair of heavy black and white drapes. I would date them anywhere from the 50s through the 70s. With a definite Modern or op-art feel. They are professionally made of a heavy black linen-weave fabric, with an overlay of a white op-art style lace fabric, made of a synthetic fiber. They are pleated at the top with a heavy paper facing, and weighted at the bottom. They are quite heavy and would provide good light and temperature insulation. Each panel measures 31" wide at the top. 85" long, and 70" wide at the hem. The set is in perfect condition with no holes. Spots or discoloration-the black is quite black and the white overlay is bright white. However, they do have a cigarette smoke odor and will benefit from cleaning or airing outside. Vintage Barkcloth Curtains Drapes Mid-Century Modern VGUC Pair Set of 2 LOVELY
For sale is a FABULOUS set of 2 vintage cotton barkcloth drapes or curtains. They have been used. And they are in very good condition. I have purposely not laundered or cleaned these, they are sold as-is, in the original condition that they were found. There are a couple of soil spots, very subtle, where they perhaps were folded. Doesn't look to be stained, I think it is just dusty dirt that laundering would easily remove. I tried to photograph this in fact, and the soiled areas are so faint that it doesn't show up in the photos. I believe these were originally made as pleated draw-drapes, from the stitched header in the 3rd photo. Also, there is some wrinkling where they appear to have been pleated. They are unlined. You can easily see the selvege edge printing on the turned side hem edge. These appear not to have been massed produced ... morein any way, but I am guessing home or custom made from vintage fabric. These panels measureslightly differently, one panel measuring 46 inches across by 81 inches in length; the 2nd panel measuring 44 x 80 1/2 inches. The print is as shown, a beige/tan background with a large floral and geometric design. Really an amazing-looking pair! Check out my separate listing for the matching valance. One of the panels had another panel sewn to the bottom of it to make it longer, weird, I know, so I removed it but that bottom hem shows more wear than the other and is flatter. Temple Rubbing on Rice Paper from Cambodia or Thailand 1960's Mid Century Modern
This is a very interesting temple rubbing on rice paper from. I believe, Cambodia or Thailand. It was brought back to the United States by a relative who served in Vietnam in the 1960s and visited both countries on leave. He told me that the temple priests wait for visitors or tourists and use rice paper and something like a crayon to make a rubbing of one of the hundreds of intricate stone carvings on the temple walls. Then they sell them to support themselves. I have also been told that these rubbings are not allowed to be made any longer as the process was wearing away the carvings. Would look fabulous in any Eames era. Mid Century Modern style home or office. This rubbing is of a scene with a warrior shooting a bow and 2 other figures below. The color is crimson red. This carnal and gorgeous sculpture was crafted using the lost wax method. It rests on a black marble base. It is signed by artist Hoshyar. The process of bringing a bronze sculpture to life using the lost-wax method is something you'll appreciate after taking this tour- Enjoy. Here Artist original ... moreclay sculpture is nearly ready for the foundry. Note the artist is still adding the finishing touches. Most sculptors prefer to work with clay or wax; some however. Do use wood and other mediums. Here the finished original clay is now complete. The sculptor will take it to the foundry now, get a bid then begin the first stages of the lost wax process. The first step can be shocking for some as they begin to decide how this original will be cut up. In order to prepare the original clay sculpture for molding. It will be dissected by cutting the clay with wire and by cutting the armature with a saw. The armature is what helped support the clay in place while the artist was creating it. Note the registration marks which later in the process will serve to realign the parts. Shown here are the sections of the original clay sculpture after having been dissected. Now the various parts of the original are carefully mounted on clay plugs before the rubber mold material is applied. The clay plug later serves as a pour spout for the mold. Each measures 12 1/4” tall by 8” at the widest by almost 3” deep. Signed Universal Statuary 1970 on each one. Beautiful sculpted look in high relief made out of a very thick double walled plastic. Hanger on the back, just takes one screw or nail to hang. Both are in very nice condition, no cracks or chips, one does have a little slight area of old paint on brow, see pics. VTG Pyrex 8 cup coffee Carafe with gold design metal stand Modern MID CENTURY ABOVE: the greenish looking areas are just reflections-not loss of gold. ABOVE: view from bottom. From my aunt's estate is a vintage. 8 cup carafe made by Pyrex. The Coffee Pote is in beautiful condition and really doubt that it has ever been used, but can't guarantee that. She was a collector of things. But often did not use them. The stand was used. Don't know the age. But probably 50's or 60's and reminds me of the"modern" era. Lid& handle are black plastic& in excellent condtion. There are a couple of pin scratches in the gold design from being in storage.Could not get good picture of it) No other stains. Cracks, chips, etc. Stand has plastic tabs on the bottom of each of the 3 legs. There is some surface loss from storage ... moreand age. And the candle wax is still in the bottom(put it in the freezer to try to get it out, but was not able to do so-perhaps you will have better luck) Also notice that one of the legs has come loose from the candle holder, but that should not be an issue(see las few pix) Size: 12" tall in warming stand(coffee pot is 9" tall by 5 3/4" dia at bottom) Coffee Pot in Excellent vintage condition. Stand is very useable. Most of the items I sell are used from one of my relative's estate or from my own stash. I try to be very complete when I describe damange on an item and include lots of pictures. Please keep in mind that when you purchase a vintage item. It is used and often times not in perfect condition because of it's age. However, sometimes those items are made to last much more so than today. Wonderful nostalgic piece to add to you collection!
