*2-5 Japanese WWll Naval sword in Kaigunto mountings, "Yoshishige"
This is a Japanese WWll Naval officer's sword in kaigunto mountings. The blade is signed"Yoshishige 良重" with 関 inspection stamp on the tang. Shinogi-zukuri shape. WWll time period ca 1940 era made blade. It shows light staines on surface but in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend. No nicks, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is black lacquered wood scabbard, shows small lacquer loss but no bend, no crack and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut. No loose and in good condition. Tsuba and seppa are mached number 359 stamped. I don't know too much about this sword. It was purchased at an estate auction the owner of which brought it back from Japan. It appears to be a traditionally made blade in WWII mounts. This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in type 98 mountings. The blade is signed"Echigo koku Mitsuoki 越後国光起" Dated"Showa Jukyu-nen Go-gatsu Kichijitu 昭和十九年五月日(a day May 1944) shinogi-zukuri shape. Mitsuoki's real name is Endo Jinsaku. Was born in 1904 in Niigata prefecture, made swords during WWll time period after the war as a gendai sword smith, listed in Gendai toko meikan page 26 and rated very high sword smith. The blade is traditional hand forged, in old polish, shows light staines on surface but no rust and in excellent condition. The temper line is wavy gunome with choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep o-maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend. No nicks, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. NICE JAPANESE ARMY OFFICER SWORD LATE WAR PATTERN
This is a good example of a Japanese Army Officer's Shin Gunto Sword Late War Pattern. It is mounted with a machine made blade that measures 26 inches in length which remains in very nice condition with some minor surface staining and blemishes. The tang is signed which translates to"KANE MUNE" and is dated"Showa jukyunen junigatsu" which translate to December 1944. All the fittings also remain in very good condition. The metal scabbard has a little scuffing but no dings and remains in nice serviceable condition.
