When the black painted chamber is held in the hand the ether boils and vigorously empties itself into the upper chamber. 5-Piece Carved Griffin Late Victorian Parlor Set
This is a beautiful late Victorian parlor set with a Settee. Gentleman's Arm Chair, Platform Rocker and 2 side chairs. It was purchased by me over 25 years ago and has been professionally reupholstered with a high-quality era-appropriate rose floral fabric. The wood is a dark cherry/mahogany color, but I am unsure of the exact species although this era used mahogany quite a bit. Each piece has a carved back. Griffins, crowns and 5-petal flowers appear on the settee, arm chair and rocker, and a simpler 5-petal flower and crowns appear on the center top back of the two side chairs. The joints of each piece appear solid and there are no rips, tears, stains, fading, or obvious wear on any parts of the upholstery. Each piece has its original wooden wheels on the legs(see photo 9) The rocker springs appear solid and functional. There is some ... morewear and tear on the wooden parts of various pieces as noted: 1) There is a small missing piece of the curl design under the R arm of the arm chair. ANTIQUE FRENCH ART NOUVEAU BRONZE & BRASS ENTRY/GATE BELL-ENGRAVED-ANGEL&GRIFFIN
Very early and very well done. The French Bronze and Brass Gate or Entry Bell was hand forged, carved and engraved. The back plate is bronze as is the bell. The bell has carved people and scrolling plants as well as engraved with the French words OUI ME TA GIT VOCEM MEAM AUDIT(best I can make out) The bronze clapper is still inside the bell. The brass decoration includes an Angel, Griffin and I think a Dragon. The Bell swings and rings when the chain is pulled. It is not signed by the maker that I can find. There are 2 new screws on the backside of the back plate holding the brass figural decoration. When the bell is rung, it is a clear and fine sharp ring. CONDITION: Excellent although you need to know there is green patina on what I think are the brass parts and there are some knicks/shallow flakes at the very bottom edge of the the bronze ... morebell.
