Bed and dresser is mahogany and-Dresser has marble top. No breaks or cracks and is the original top-Dresser has original bevel mirror and in good shape-Bed has matching foot board like the headboard-but half it's height. Dresser has the same design on top of dresser as the bed does-Bed is a full size, but we can put a queen mattress on it. Head board has a crack in it. If you look at the 4 th picture you can see the crack, a little glue will do the job. The set has never been refinished or repaired. The set is big, thick wood and heavy. Up for bids is this beautiful Eastlake style mantel clock. This is the Niagara model made by the Waterbury Clock Company from the early 1900s. Amazing over-the-top craftsmanship is evident everywhere on this clock. From the turned ribbed open columns to the fine detailed pressed wood designs and masterful cabinet structure. This will be a true gem when complete! A proper pendulum and a bit of clockmaker know-how will set it right. This is not your run-of-the-mill gingerbread or kitchen style clock. It may be hard to tell from the pics, but this clock stands an imposing 29 1/2" high! That may be a quarter or a third larger than most gingerbread type clocks! It houses a clean but discolored steel plate 8-day time and strike calendar movement marked Waterbury Clock Co. USA. The springs are good and both trains function. I am unfamiliar with how these should go together or if something is missing as the hand just sits loosely on the center shaft. It looks like that would do it, but not certain.The paper calendar dial is near perfect, possibly a very good replacement, and has the W.C.C. logo above center. There's a nice Waterbury beat scale where the lower tip of the pendulum would hang. The front glass is probably a replacement, however this model did not have the screen decorated glass that most kitchen style clocks had. On the back of the clock is a nearly complete Waterbury label with instructions, etc. There's just a piece of the old"Niagara"model overlay label above that(just the R) Inside the case on the lower right there is a cracked or repaired piece of wood, possibly a factory repair(see pics) and on the back the reinforcing block for the crown split when nailed. Lovely tea service I picked up at the Portobello Market: Finely crafted Victorian silverplate with detailed stamped design in the Eastlake style. Design includes a space for a monogram. But it's never been inscribed. Ivory insets in the two pot handles. Maker unknown. The diamond stamp is a British registration mark from 1872. But I've been unable to dig up info on the clover/shamrock and fan( I looked for signs of the base metal when I polished it. And couldn't find a hint, so the plating seems to be pretty thick. Dimensions(approximate) Cream: 4-5/8" spout to handle. 3-7/8" tall. Sugar: 6-3/4" handle to handle. 4-1/4" tall. Tall coffee/chocolate pot: 8-1/2" spout to handle. 8-1/4" tall. Short tea pot: 9-1/4" spout to handle. 5-3/4" tall. Condition: Overall. The set is in great shape-it's ... morebeen used over its 140 years, but never abused. All pieces are fully functional. With tight seams, smooth hinges, and straight lids. Cream: Shallow pinkie nail sized dent along the bottom curve. It's in the lower-right of pic 3. But hard to spot. Sugar: Smattering of tarnish spots inside. Tall pot: A few tiny dings scattered about-you have to go hunting for them. Short pot: Some small. Shallow dents around the bottom, more noticeable by touch than sight. Light tea patina inside. Handle has dent at top from lid flipping up, and appears to have been patched with some kind of compound-see next to last pic. Eastlake Oak Stick and Ball Tantalus/Rack with Two Decanters
This late Victorian Era oak Tantalus is 11 1/2" high. The felt covered base measures 6" x 10 3/4" The decanters are 6 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" square. I find no damage on the two pressed glass decanters. The fabulous cork stoppers have brass hounds for handles. I would call this old treasure a"Poor Man's Tantalus" It isn't all fancy with decorative brass hinges and trim and made of mahogany or walnut like most. The hinge and locking hook clasp are metal and they are in great condition and firmly attached. The top handle opens upward so you can lift the decanters out safely. The Eastlake designed oak rack is sturdy and in good condition for its' age. There is one nick on the bottom of the handle shown in the last photo. The center rung has a replacement knob on the back. I can see stress lines above ... moreeach of the center knobs. However. The side rails are firm so I am guessing they may have been reglued at some time? It is in very good original condition with a few scratches on the shelf and some of the black accent painting is just a little lighter or duller in a few spots. It is in excellent condition and very rich looking. The Dresser is in walnut and the secondary woods are tulip. It has wonderful hand carved details. It is still on it's Original Antique Matting. The only flaws I see are a coupe light foxing dots. There are no tears. The Eastlake Frame is Solid and still displays well. The spoon carvings are all well defined. The only flaws I see on the frame are some tiny corner chips. Nothing severe or distracting at all when the frame is hung. The original wavy glass(There is a scratch on the wavy glass) Wire hanger and original wood backing are included. The frame measures 8 3/4 x 9 7/8 inches. Victorian Eastlake Antique Magaazine Music Piano Organ Stand
Offered for auction is this very nice Victorian Eastlake music/magazine/newspaper stand. I want to be clear and up front that this is a married piece. The top and bottom were found separately missing whatever has been attached to them and I put the two together to give the pieces a new life of their own. It is very stable and heavy. It is solid walnut. Both sides fold open and are held in place by chains. Two appear to be original. Two appear to be replacements. Both fold out panels are decoratively carved with an Eastlake/Aesthetic design. The hinges on the side panels work fine and are tight. There is an old repair to one top corner that could have been more expertly done, but is secure and does not affect the function of the piece(I did not do this repair, it was already done when I purchased the top) A couple of the corners of the base ... moreof the stand also have a little wear, but nothing that detracts. The face of the stair railing(to the right of the pictures) was enclosed as a wall for a duplex and all original Foyer pieces are present and were behind the wall. All of the Foyer trim and skirting is intact and present and was just enclosed with a wall. Therefore we have all of the stair face trim as well as the original posts that have not been altered and are present as original. The lower rail on the right side as pictured was broken(easily repaired) as were some of the lower sections of the skirt boards during removal(the skirts were scissor cut around ... morethe treads and risers) We have all of the pieces for a full and complete restoration of this stair railing. Charming bee. Crane and floral motifs are hand carved in solid walnut with burl panels. This American made furniture is richly detailed with incised chip or spoon carving. The bed has been expertly adapted to fit a standard modern queen size mattress and spring unit. 20" thick together as shown, and has been revarnished because of the alterations.
