These buttons date from about 1770 and I was able to ... moreidentify these from a photograph in the book BUTTONS by Nancy Fink and Maryalice Ditzler. In Chapter One"An Historical Overview" Page 10, there is a photograph showing this button type along with a description as follows: Small jewel-like breeches buttons with foil reflecting through the heavy glass mounted in a silver back; used at the knee of the breeches, c. 1770" It's hard to tell from these close up photographs. But the earrings do sparkle like little jewels when seen from a normal viewing distance. Inside each button is a tiny design of twisted gold wirework set on a black background with red flashing along the edges. A silver wire was added to the top so that these could be wore as earrings. The buttons measure approximately 3/8 inches(10 mm) in both length and width. The top of the wire to the base of the earring measures approximately 3/4 inches. And when I do use glue. You won't find'globs' or'strings' of glue on my vintage button creations. I do not use a hot glue gun and mass produce. I use only the finest jewelers' adhesives. And take my time designing just the right piece. In some of my creations I also use vintage jewelry parts. Stampings and findings. Again, nothing modern is used. Several pieces have 14K gold or sterling silver chains. A good portion of my vintage brass findings were obtained from a woman who purchased them years and years ago from a vintage costume jewelry manufacturer who had gone out of business. These gorgeous brass findings had been sitting in their warehouse for years before being bought. They are vintage. And yet they are unused. Most of the findings are from the 1940's and 1950's. Because I only use vintage or antique buttons. They may show wear and age. This is expected from something that is 60-100 years old. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind original. A beautiful collection of six matching one-half inch antique waistcoat buttons in very good condition. Each carved slice of abalone is stacked on a mauve-tinted pierced metal plate. Both are connected to the backing by a cut steel escutcheon that forms the loop shank. This is the second and last set that I have.

Three Civil War Era Wadsworth family Livery buttons Scovill RMDC
This auction is for three(3) large. Approx. 1" one inch) Very fine Livery or crest buttons with the Wadsworth family Coat of Arms and Crest. These came together out of a very old estate in New Hampshire. They were made by Scovill Manufacturing Co of Waterbury Connecticut. These large size livery buttons were made about 1850s-1860s based upon their Back mark featured in a Recessed Mark in a Depressed Channel(RMDC) These buttons are very scarce in this large size and by a famous American maker. If you have an interest in 19th century livery buttons or are interested in the history/genealogy of the Wadsworth family of New England then this auction is for you. Once again. This auction is for three(3) large size 1" Scovill Mf'g Waterbury RMDC Gilt Buttons. Condition is overall very fine. A little wear and some tarnishing and fingerprint ... moremarks on the front of one of the buttons. As always.
