5 beautiful antique metal and mirrored buttons
These are beautiful antique metal buttons with mirrors behind the carved metal. They measure 1/2 inch across and one of them has tarnish or something and I was afraid to try and clean it. These were passed down to me by my grandmother who started collecting buttons when she was young. She died about 30 years ago at the age of 90 so not sure just how old these are. Another is a steel cup w/raised edge and has a tinted blue dome w/gold accent and a center steel cut. The last button is a brass base w/ gray center pearl(pearl has grainy surface. So it could be real pearl, but I am NOT sure) Around the pearl are steel cuts. This button is missing shank. TWO METAL BUTTONS WITH SCREEN TYPE METAL PIECES.
Here are two old metal buttons that have something in common though they look very different. Both have fronts that show metal pieces cut in the manner collectors call"screen. It is actually metal with tiny round holes in it. The button on the left is a Victorian perforate. Circa 1880-1900. The center screen flower is surrounded by a white lining and decorative border. It has original color black finish and a black lacquered back. The one on the right is a more vintage example, but I can't say its age for sure. It is a molded stylized floral design cut from screen metal and is brass with a shiny gold colored twinkle background. Both are size small: 5/8" and 1/2" respectively.
