Here are Three Very Pretty Vintage Plastic Buttons Including Two 6-Point Stars. The two matching star buttons are beautifully molded in gold and brown tones and have applied shanks. One of the two has a speck of something on it. But I didn’t try to remove it. The third round button looks like Bakelite colors. But is probably celluloid. It has an interesting center design and carved border. And it has a metal loop shank. They are all very good to excellent condition. And the photos are part of the description. Issues 9-18 were on newsprint and are in good condition, though a little yellowed. These were mailed and stored folded in half but these are the only creases. Issues 19 and 20 were 8 1/2 x 11 newsprint with glossy covers and are not creased. Issue 19 has had a business card sized piece cut out of page 9. Mostly produce in Europe during the first part of the 20e century, this semi-synthetic plastic(Casein is the generic name) is made from skimmed milk curdled with rennet. Cured by long immersion in formaldehyde, it became a useful thermosetting material, which can be moulded in beautiful patterns. It's color doesn't change over time. The colors you can find are mostly plain opaque colors, sometimes with marbling or translucency. Galalith pieces are machined, sanded or handfinished and therefore there should be no marks left on them(in opposition to cheap mass produced plastics) so all pieces are seamless and this material belonging to the ... moreplastic family such as Bakelite, or Celluloid or Lucite is considered to be a top quality chunky plastic. The largest button is chunky and measures 1 3/4" in diameter. There is a set of 5 carved bakelite with clovers; 2 are 1 1/8" and 3 are 3/4" The wonderful bow buttons are domed with loop caps in back; 2 are 1 1/8" and 2 are 3/4" The buttons are in nice shape and not cracked or broken. Vintage Carved BAKELITE Buttons Cobalt Blue and Red
Hi. I am listing several lots of buttons in the next couple of days. These buttons are old store stock and have never been used. There will be some small lots and large lots. This is a great opportunity for button dealers to buy. So be sure to check out my other auctions. This is a lot of 4 half round carved buttons. The largest 2 are 1 1/4" in diameter and 3/4" thick. These two are a beautiful deep cobalt blue. In some light it looks black but others you can clearly see the blue. There is a chip on the back of one of these. But it does not affect the usebility. The The next largest is 1" in diameter and 1/2" thick. This one is ruby red, and the last button is bright red with a 7/8" diameter and 3/8" thickness. They were tested with hot water and Simichrome polish. I rinsed these off as the boxes and buttons ... morehad alot of dirt and dust on them from being stored in a barn. They are 1" in diameter and are reddish maroon color. Most of these have a touch of brown slightly mottled thru them. They could be end of day buttons. They were tested with hot water and Simichrome polish. I rinsed these off as the boxes and buttons had alot of dirt and dust on them from being stored in a barn. But you may want to polish them. So be sure to check out my other auctions. This is a box of 28 beautiful tortoiseshell buttons. 27 in the box and one on the box, that are carved with a leaf design. They are 1 1/8" wide and 1/4" thick. They were tested with hot water and Simichrome polish. I rinsed these off as the boxes and buttons had alot of dirt and dust on them from being stored in a barn. But you may want to polish them as some of the metal shanks have slight corrosion. I will be happy to combine shipping for multiple orders.
