For sale is a beautiful Bronze Ewer Sculpture This is a stunning solid Bronze figural ewer sculpture in the Mannerist/ Neoclassic/ Art Nouveau style made in Paris. France ca 1850. The ewer is sculptured and cast in incredible fine detail using the lost wax technique and has wonderful aged dark brown patination. It has multiple and complex mythological Bacchic scenes representing Mermaids, Putti, animals, and a Satyr. It is decorated with a total of 24 characters in different poses including 15 Putti, 3 Mermaids, 3 mythological dolphins, a Satyr, a mythological horse with two fish tails and a salmon. The base section represents 3 double tailed mermaids with wreaths on their heads supporting the ewer. The middle section is the most complex and represents multiple putti, fish with lots of typha in the background. The handle represents a Satyr ... morewith grape leave wreath and waistband. Bronzes from southern India were brought to Java by early traders and they eventually served as the stylistic models for the famed bronzes produced in central Java just a few centuries later during the Kediri and Majapahit Dynasties. This is cast in the lost wax method with additional details added by hand chasing and chiseling techniques. For its age.
