This is a really great quartered quarter sawn oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyer's bookcase or a stacker. We have refinished this piece and it has a smooth, even, and authentic finish. An unusual bookcase-note the following: ball and claw feet, drop front desk with fitted interior(waterfall style) 3 storage drawers(1 in the base and two below the desk) a graduated unit with the bottom clear(original) glass being 13.5 high and the leaded glass(original) top unit being 9.5 inches high. Note all the original Macey signatures remain. The overall size of the piece is 34 wide, 14 deep, and 60 high. This piece from an East coast home and was purchased with our stock number 14952-a Macey case identical in height and finish but with a different configuration. Up for bid is an antique Globe Wernicke bookcase that has been in my possession since the 1960's. My dad worked at Prudential for 29 years and they were literally throwing them away to make way for the modern. When I entered high school in 1960 he picked this up for me along with a typewriter. The most issues I see are on the top. There are four cut marks on the edge and some staining. Although I think there are tons of products that can restore it without significant effort. I have taken as many pictures as allowable with a quality camera on a tripod. So camera shake is not an issue. So please look at pictures closely. This item is local pickup only. I have sold probably a hundred or more barrister bookcases over the years. I look for unusual models and thought I had probably seen every combination but here is one I have never seen before. In quartered quarter sawn oak a graduated stepback unit that is very functional. Excellent original smooth even finish. Note the bottom section is a stepback style and deeper than the other sections. The bottom section is 15.5 high and 11.5 deep. The middle section is 13.0 high and 9.5 deep. The top barrister section is 11.0 high and 9.5 deep. Most unusual is the very top piece which is a two door bookcase portion with a shelf in the middle. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacked bookcase. The overall size of this bookcase is 34 wide, 12 deep, and 70 high. 16613 Antique Victorian Burl Walnut Cylinder Secretary Bookcase Desk

We are pleased to be offering today this true Victorian burl walnut secretary bookcase desk that dates from the Eastlake era of the 1870s to 1880s. This desk is truly Eastlake as it has the circular dove tail that was used for a short period of time and really pin points the date range of the desk. It came out of a pretty nice estate on the east coast. It appears to have been refinished years ago in a medium walnut stain finish. It has all the hardware intact. All the burl walnut panels are intact. The only thing we did was replace the felt on the pull out tray as the other one was stained. The desk comes with the original wavy glass on the bookcase glass doors top. Three adjustable shelves that appear to be true original shelves, the doors have burl panels on all four sides with ... morerosette covers and even comes with a key. It has a crown molded top, beautiful burl walnut center and the pull tray. The base cabinet sports three graduated drawers with the circular round Eastlake dove tail and carved columns coming down both sides and lots of burl walnut. The overall size is 40 inches at the widest point, 23 inches deep, 31 inches high to the writing surface and 87 inches high overall. One thing I would like to add is that these desks usually have white wood sides or non walnut sides, but this one is truly all walnut as you can see in the numerous pictures. The original backboards are all in place. The desk is a nice original desk. The more I look at it, it appears like they just put a clear coat of shellac on it to brighten it up back years ago.
