Vintage Koken barber chair was used in the centralized make-up and hair facility at NBC's famed 30 Rockefeller Studios for on-air talent and guests for more than 40 years in the heyday of live television. The footrest styling is typical of the 1900s and the chair shows beautifully. It is fully functional in good condition with a headrest largely intact. This item is being offered for local pickup in South Amboy. New Jersey, which is located about an hour's drive from New York City.

Antique Koken Barber Chair Pump Handle. White porcelain. Hard to find Lollipop Style. There are so few of these style handles out there. Great restoration piece. Included, as seen in the pictures of the inside of the larger round mounting end, are the spring and pin that are absolutely necessary for operation of the handle when mounted on a barber chair. These 2 pieces are typically lost but this handle comes with them. Please use photos to show the condition. There are 3 chips to the porcelain on the outside of the larger round end, a few on the inside of the same end(not visible when mounted) 1 chip on the shaft plus stress lines as seen in photos, and the smaller"ball shaped" end has an area of chips that someone has glued a few of the pieces back on plus 2 small chips shown with an off white touch up paint. The hydraulic and reclining mechanisms are working. The chrome on the arm rests. Foot rests and around the rim of the base show wear. Upholstery needs replacing, you can see what looks like horse hair below the batting. For reupholstery you can just remove the seat and back and have them redone without moving the entire chair. Universal headrest is still intact and working. Very decent chrome on it for it’s age. It has expected, random, light finish wear, but a worthwhile project. It weighs a few hundred pounds, but the base can be removed from chair itself. The back plate where you slide the headrest in to has a small corner crack. It doesn’t affect it’s operation and is cosmetic. The flip up portion of the footrest is included, but it broke at the flange and will have to be welded or brazed. At least all the parts are there. It looks like it was welded before, but not very well since that’s where it snapped. Pick up, or local SIDEWALK delivery(NO STEPS) Oh. Is 32" from the back of the chair to the horse's nose and measures about 20.5" wide.19" diameter base. It was made by the Emil J. It is fitted with a wooden horse's head, I actually remember one in Detroit when I was a boy in the 50s and would only get my hair cut if I could sit on that chair… the whole point actually) that still has its original paint, although the horsey's chin is missing. In the original there was a metal ring that went through his mouth to which they would strap leather reins for the child to pretend to be the Lone Ranger(or Tonto) while getting his haircut. Evidently, so I'm ... moretold, these chins would snap off with continued stress place on them from the kids jumping down from the chair. He also has a small chip off his ear that not noticeable. The chair has upholstered leather seat(with a couple tiny nicks) and back and has the same leather covering the outside back of the chair. The enamel armrests and base and body are in very good condition, as is the leather. It has been on display in my home for the last 22 years. One of the metal brackets at the front of the left armrest has a tip missing. Other than that, this chair is a beautiful addition to any beauty salon, barber shop, man cave, family room or cool office. The hydraulic lever on the side allows for the raising, lowering and swiveling. The original paint graces the scalloped collar around the horse's neck with delicate carving of the eyes, the harness and mane. I've seen restored similar ones for twice this price, and frankly the bright paint and glossy sheen loses the charm of weathered wood, IMHO. NO RESERVE! Barber chair from the 1870's. Unfortunately I cannot find a makers mark or tag. There are matching numbers on the wood frame and headrest. The numbers are 20002. Amazing condition for its age. Nothing is broken the reclining mechanism still works. The only flaw is 2 of the small wood" buttons" are missing. One on each side of the lower part of the chair. Light wear on the bottom of the legs. Probably can be reproduced or leave as is. I did not even notice them until my wife pointed it out. Also the left hand rest has a small hole on top. The lady I purchased this from many years ago told me her grandmother was a barber from Michigan and the chair was used to cut hair at lumber camps back in the day. Barber chair foot pump, steampunk part, chrome and brass restoration piece
This is a piece I found in my Dads basement. He was a collector of anything unique. Good quality, mechanical etc. This appears to be the foot pump from a barber shop, or dental office chair. It weighs 4-5 lbs. I would say it is chromed or nickel plated. There are many surface scratches in the finish. The plunger button is brass and does push up and down with strong pressure.Any questions I will try to answer. Up for sale is a really awesome Vintage Emil J Paidar barber chair! This came from Glen Phister's barber shop in Glen Park(Gary) Indiana. And is well over 50 years old. The person I am selling this for was the first female"barber" in his shop! She was able to take it with her and used in in her home salon until recently. You can see there were covers made for it that can be cleaned and included if you want them. Otherwise, this would be awesome restored! Nice, rare orange vinyl is original to this chair. The seat has a small hols. The back rest has some cracking. The sides as you can see pictures were covered with an adhesice type material. It was not removed, but the owner thought there was some small crackings underneath and this adhesive was placed on it so it could be covered. You can see the"Paidar" name at the ... morefoot base. Up for sale we have a magnificent Victorian Walnut Barber Chair. We are offering it today un-restored. We have only the walnut frame and the parts that are attached. The arms luckily have the beautifully carved dogs heads still in tact. The chair has been kept all these years since the 1880's. One of those Antiques you really wish could talk. This early chair was made in Chicago by A.N. Hornung. We are copying some history for the applied for patent we found on the net. The chair needs to be gone over by a restoration person and made sturdy again. It is still attached to its original metal parts on each side. However we have some parts that are off the chair and boxed up to send along. We are offering the chair now without being restored and upholstered. I like to buy many of my antiques this way. You can always restore them. But you ... morecan't always find another one just like it. And in the case of this chair that adage really holds true. You can take it in stages and then when you are ready to upholster. Pick the colors and styling that goes with where you want to put it. Again we are selling this chair in As Is As Found Condition.
