These are lovely brass bookends with gracious. Curving lines, designed by Arthur von Frankenberg of Frankart Inc. fame. He was the sculptor and designer of the creative and stylized Art Deco and Art Nouveau figural items. He specialized in the female nude, so these bookends are a bit unusual. Various diameter length 3/16" thick fuse- or glue-attached ornamental teal glass round wafer button jewels, also blacklight-sensitive. It's a magnificent labor-intensive marriage of metal on glass-on-glass. The 7¼" diameter x 7½" high footed bowl with 4⅜" diameter disc foot is 3-part-constructed, with bowl attached to stem attached to disc base. There is a interior swirl pattern within the bowl; the hollow stem has a tunnel-optic spiral pattern; and the concave-attached ... moredisc base has a raised, smoothed center. The metal Art Nouveau basketweave-type applied metal designwork defies explanation, and one's normal patience level. This is a dedicated genius at work. The handles and fork tines are gilded metal and one of the knifes has peeling on that gilding. There is minor wear to the set from use. ANTIQUE ART NOUVEAU " EAGLE" RADIANT SPACE HEATER * COPPER DISH 1920'S
We found this in the basement yesterday. Here I have an Art Nouveau era radiant space heater with a copper dish. There is a screw in porcelain element There is no writing I can find. As the" grill" is missing, however I did find a very similar one and it was made by" Eagle" The dish on this one has two holes drilled into the top. Which I just found out was for a carrying handle, which is no longer there. The base is heavily ornate with Art Nouveau detailing. The base does have some light surface rust which could be sanded and repainted. The plug and cord are intact. I did plug this in and it does work. Would be great for restoration. I recently acquired an extensive antique Asian collection. Many fine quality Japanese and Chinese items from the same estate. Up for auction is an original antique painting of a Japanese Kushi hair comb dating from the late 1800's with an awesome Art Nouveau design. The painting has an embossed design with hand painted details and color over the design. This is not a print and was hand painted. Painted on a thick piece of paper stock with great color and detail. Great design with a moth or butterfly on the top of the comb. In overall very nice shape with no creases. No folds, no tears and the color is excellent. Has old tape residue on the rear and doesn't effect the front. Measures approx. 6 inches by 4 1/2 inches. Very rare Japanese painting and is a must for any collector. Fantastic WMF Art Nouveau Claret Jug or Decanter of Art Glass and Pewter
A beautiful Art Nouveau decanter or claret jug. Featuring swirling handblown artglass in a rich cobalt blue touched with pewter, and an ornate pewter or britannia metal spout and handle with clean repousse casting and fantastic detail. There is a maker's mark stamped into the handle, and the letters M; B; and G are visible, along with A1. My research shows this to mean that the pewter or britannia metal is actually a mixture of brass(M) and britannia(B) with(A1) referring to the silver-plate quality; if you have any additional information, please contact me. Measures 16.5" tall and 7" from spout to handle finial. Good hinge; closes tight. No chips, cracks or breaks. House First of all. Thanks for looking at my items. An absolute stunning original art nouveau majolica tile with a raised secessionist design of stylised plant forms.Decorated in beautiful majolica glazes in shades of pink,purple,lilac,multi shades of green and treacle. It has a moulded mark which reads"Rd No 368335(see photo) which dates the registration of the design to 1901. It measures approx 6" square.And is mounted in a copper stand,which is approx 2" tall. It is in excellent condition with no chips.Cracks or restoration,and will only extremely light surface wear,only apparent when the tile is held up and examined against light. It has clean age crazing mainly to the treacle coloured glazeand some thicker areas of the green glazes. Up for auction is a Majolica Art Nouveau moulded tile maker unknown. The tile measures approx 6 inches(15 cms) square. This tile has a fabulous large image depicting a single stylised flower in a deep pink/ reddish colour with a mustard coloured centre together with swirling stems& stylised leaves. The tile has a lovely glossy majolica glaze predominantly in deep green. See section above for full condition report. Please enlarge photos to see tile in more detail. Beautiful art nouveau pewter or base metal vase with gold overtone paint. Fantastic ornate scroll handles with a winged cherub on one side. Flowers decorate the bottom of the base. Vase stands 8.5" tall x 8" wide from handle to handle. The mouth of the vase measures 3.5" wide. Green felt covers the bottom of the vase. Condition is overall good. Superb Pair of Victorian Sterling Silver Organic Art Nouveau Shape Flower or Spill Vases dated 1898 Each Antique Flower or Spill Vase measures approximately 2 1/ 8 inches or 5 4 mm across the widest part of its upper body from side to side by just over 2 1/4 inches or 59 mm across the widest part of its base from side to side and it stands just under 5 3/4 inches or 145 mm tall to the top of its upper rim. Both vases are made from sterling silver in typically Art Nouveau organic shapes that have raised relief fluted bodies that have bulbous tops and they each stand on a flared base or foot that has been filled or weighted for stability. The underside of the bases have their original mauve fabric linings to help prevent the vases from scratching the surface that they are placed upon and the vases have Not been engraved with a previous owners ... moreinitials or family monogram all as photographed below. The vases have a combined weight of 148.2 grams and the foot of each one has been impressed with a matching full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows, J.D& S- Crown- Lion Passant- stylized f J.D& S is the Sheffield silversmith or makers mark of James Dixon& Sons. This is a very fine and beautiful Antique Clock in the Art Nouveau style made of gilded bronze and dating from the early years of the last century. There are some words and numbers stamped on the bottom of the back. But they are illegible. This clock has a new movement and keeps perfect time. Very often the cases for these clocks were made in France for export and sale in the States. I cannot be sure if this is the case with this clock. But. Considering its early date, I think it would be more rare if it were American made, since the Art Nouveau Movement was still in its early years even in Europe. The Art Nouveau movement was an international philosophy and style of art. ... moreArchitecture and applied art, especially the decorative arts, that was most popular from 1890 to 1910. It was a reaction to the academic art of the 19th century, inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants but also in curved lines. Our clock has the typical curving lines and foliage- a bouquet of flowers above the dial. And two more flowers near the bottom- often seen in Art Nouveau objects. It also has a charming figure of a beautiful young woman whose right arm and long gown are made to seamlessly blend into the structure of the case. The entire case has been gilded. But some of the gilding has naturally worn away. It may look in the photos as if all of the gilding were still intact. This is a trick of the light and also, possibly part of the original design. Under the gilding is a layer of gold paint, which, except on close inspection, seems to fill in for the worn gilding. You may be able to notice this in some of the detailed photos. There is no damage to the clock. It stands securely and keeps perfect time. The dial and movement are new and work perfectly. Bronze Plated Art Nouveau Cast Iron Smoking Bench/Stool
A very romantic bronze plated cast iron bench with arm rests. In a French style. The cabriole legs on each side support the 12"x24" seat(upholstered in an antique woven botanical tapestry cloth) and become the arms on each side. Intricately carved, these arms have openings to hold the original ashtrays, one of which is still present on this piece. The style of scrolls and graphic floral patterns are very art nouveau. There is some aging of this piece. But nothing affecting the quality of the piece- mostly some light wear and fading, easily cleaned. Probably dates to somewhere around the 1920s- 1930s.
