AAFA Antique Old Early Framed American Sewing & Crochet Tools ~ Leather & Bone
AAFA Sewing and Crochet Implements Handmade Leather Gloves for Crochet Hooks. Bone Crochet Hooks, and 2 Piercing Tools This great collection comes in a nice black shadowbox. The box itself is new. But the tools inside are over one hundred years old and are in remarkably good condition. All four tools are made of bone are fully intact. The treasure of the collection, in my opinion, is the handmade miniature leather gloves that are handstitched and held together with an old piece of fabric. These would have been handmade by a woman a very long time ago and used to put crochet hooks in so they did not damage anything else. This is a great. Ready to display collection that will save you time finding all the pieces. Items will be wrapped individually and ship together with the shadowbox. Make a reasonable offer and it will most likely be yours. ... moreI do not always relist items that are unsold so this may be the only opportunity to make an offer. Antique Burl Wood Early American Cricket/Child's Stool AAFA NO RESERVE
A superb and rare example of early Pennsylvania material culture in this child's stool or cricket stool constructed completely of old growth burl wood. Simply fantastic grain and patina on all sides of this stool. Fantastic joinery here. There are no nails at all! Includes a wide dovetail joint on the leg panels and four solid fat glue blocks on the underside of the stool surface. Thin cut burl wood shows almost imperceptible signs of kerf marks which are very hard to see in photos. Top cut-out finger notch is carved in a classic stylized bird motif common in early Pennsylvania German decorative arts. This piece came down through a prominent German family in New Orleans who settled here in the mid 19th century from Pennsylvania and set up a brewing empire here. Details to the winner re: provenance. Seat measures about 9 inches at its ... morelong side and about 6 inches wide on the top. Stands about 7 inches tall. Condition is superb. Original finish in good condition. What appears as a missing sliver of wood along one foot in the images actually is the natural recess of the burl surface and incorporated into the bottom of the leg. To make best use of the scarce burl wood available. Incredibly well made and probably as special gift piece for a loved daughter or wife. Cannot say enough about this glowing piece of early Americana. Dating to at least the early 19th century or late 18th century, possibly even earlier to mid-18th century based on construction and similarity to other known examples from 18th c. PA. This is a collector's rare opportunity. NO RESERVE AUCTIONS ALL WEEK LONG! We will be listing several choice pieces of American. Paper bags and new-fangled plastic bags, baskets were the most convenient and practical way to gather, carry, deliver and store items. These handmade containers, made of grasses or wood, came in all shapes and sizes. They were made out of necessity, as a pastime or to earn a living. Baskets were and continue to be made in several countries, including the United States by Native Americans, Shakers and craftspeople. One basket that stands out from all others in craftsmanship is the Taghkanic basket. The woven splint Historic Baskets were made in the small hamlet of West Taghkanic, Columbia County New York. It's documented that Taghkanic baskets were made in the early 1800s by a group of families, ... moresome of whom are believed to be descendants of the Palatine German refugees who had settled in that part of the county in 1710. Between 1915 and 1940. There were more than 40 families in West Taghkanic who were making baskets as a living. Because Taghkanic baskets are so well made. They were often mistaken for Shaker baskets. The last Taghkanic basket maker was Liz Proper who made baskets in the 1960s. Filmmaker Jack Ofield wrote“Elizabeth Proper lived all of her life in the Taconic Hills of eastern New York State. She harvested her own white oak to make baskets. She was in her“forties when I filmed her in 1972 and had a six year old daughter. In this U Tube documentary of Elizabeth M. Proper. You will see an exact swing handled miniature of this basket being offered. There had been a community of basket makers in the region, but she was the last of the Traditional Taconic Basket Makers and the only one left. We are pleased to offer this Outstanding Miniature Taconic White Oak Swing Basket Hand Made and signed by Elizabeth M. Proper for your consideration. Vintage Antique Primitive Hand Made Checkers Chess Game Board - AAFA - Folk Art
Gorgeous Antique Hand Made Primitive Game Board Shows an amazing patina Measures approx. 19 x 24 and has been fitted with a wire for display Surface has some slightly sticky spots from varnish perhaps? Not certain what type of wood it is crafted from- my guess would be oak Stunning primitive piece! Edit: There's been tons of interest on the game boards I currently have listed and many questions regarding the age of the pieces. I honestly don't know exactly how old they are. I can tell you that I purchased them at a liquidation of an older woman's estate in the Rockies recently who was a FANATICAL collector of authentic antique primitives. All the pieces(and there were a lot- from quilts to hearthware to art to farm tools and much more) at this liquidation were mid to late 19th century to early 20th century- so I'm reasoning ... morethat these game boards are in a similar circa. That being said. I'm certainly not an expert and I hope you can see my integrity as a long standing seller from my feedback. I know this is a significant investment so the only thing to do is allow a 3 day inspection/return to guarantee your purchase. If you are not satisfied with the piece, contact me within 3 days of delivery confirmation for a full return: Thanks for all the interest- these pieces really are super cool! 19th C Antique American Pine Pestle or Masher AAFA
I had the opportunity to buy several wooden treenware items at an estate sale right out of an area barn. First time on the market. The woman had only bought locally and hadn't added to the collection for the past 30 years. This is a heavy 19th century New Jersey pine pestle or masher. These would be used with a mortar to grind herbs. But they often become separated from each other. All hand made. Great dry untouched patina and the bottom part still retains its original red wash. Measures 9 1/2" long and 3" across. Shipping is calculated as accurately as possible. Any over payment will be returned to buyer after shipping to the buyer's Paypal account. New Jersey residents without re-sale# will be charged appropriate sales tax. If there is a problem. Please contact me BEFORE leaving feedback.
