An Anglo-Saxon bronze strap end with interlacing decoration and zoomorphic imagery. Dating to between the 9th- 11th centuries. Of standard form. Tapering slightly at the terminal end. The panel is decorated in intricate Winchester Style plant ornament of the type common on manuscripts from the period. The terminal end has incised zoomorphic decoration, possibly depicting a mouse head, with circular eyes and a prominent nose. The remains of two iron rivets remain at the split end where the piece would have fitted onto a leather strap. Judging from the clear influence of the Anglo-Saxon monastic art style of the 9th– 11th centuries(termed Winchester Style) It is highly likely this piece was produced either at a monastic or affiliated religious centre.
