Peter OMPIR FIDDLER MAN Tin Round TOLE HANDPAINTED Folk Art
This is a very nice example of PETER OMPIR'S works. During his lifetime Peter Ompir was at his height in the 1970's. Ompir's work soon generated a great demand for more. And his pieces were selling in Macy's, Neiman-Marcus, Sloan's of New York, Magnin's, and Meier& Frank. In the 1970's Peter's treasures were proudly offered for sale by Harry& Velma Visse at their Corner House gift shop in Portland, Oregon. This piece measures about 12 3/8" across and 2' deep. The patina is lovely and I believe that the subject, the'Fiddler" is somewhat unusual. I love the detail of the shading and composition. There is overall small chipping in the paint all the way around the rim. I personally don't think it takes away from the Folk Art of the piece. As I have pictured, it is signed on the back ... moreby the artist, PETER OMIPR. Which by the way, means'Peter the Great' which he was as an artist. It's real old and has been well used.There's as much weight in solder in this as tin and it even has a patch on the inside.There's not any dents in it and it's not rusted out but it's has been repaired in several places with what looks like different kinds of solder from different eras of repair.I'm not sure if the copper bottom came with it originally or not.It could have possibly been added to it or it could have been made that way.I'm just not sure.From looking inside of this I'm sure it was red originally.The brown painted backround has a textured feel to it and it's been beautifully hand painted by someone who was a very talented artist.The metal piece that holds the lid on permantly is broken but it will stay on and go up and down without a problem because theres enough of it left to easily take the ... moretop on and off.It has a unique spiral on the lid.I havn't seen another top like it and wish I knew who made it.It's 11 1/4" tall and the base is 6 1/2" wide.This was purchased at a antique shop in Ohio by a relative back in 1942 and was recently rediscovered in a box wrapped in a newspaper from 1975.The paint job on this is in excellent condition and was like this when it was purchased so it was painted over 70 years ago.It's water based paint and is really balanced.It just has several holes that have been repaired with solder.It's a neat unique piece of history and artwork but just don't have a place for it that's why it's for sale.This is a one and done ad as far as relisting it is concerned.If it doesn't sell I'm going to wrap it back up in the same newspaper and put it away in the same box for my grandchildren and hope they will appreciate it.I'm charging a flat rate of $20 to properly pack and ship this with $300 worth of insurance.If you have any questions just ask.

Antique Early 1900s Tin Tole Style Hand Painted F l o w e r Basket Bookends This is a great pair of bookends I am reluctant to part with! I have had these for over 30 years and they were ancient when I got them. Made from tin. They are hand painted in the cottage style tole with a basket of flowers that still shows lovely color for their age. I had these in my kitchen with old cookbooks(shown in photo) but they can be adapted to any place in the house. They measure about 5.25" across and are about 5.75" tall and 6" deep. The words"la tea da" are handwritten below the house in the checkered area. Colors involved are heritage brick for the house, light ivory, black, greens, and burnt sienna.
