This is a lot of 5 old original printer's blocks of old cars and carriages. One of the carriages is labeled STUDEBAKER in script below the carriage. The last picture is a reversed negative image of the Studebaker block. A print would look a lot crisper and cleaner. The the largest one measures about 2" tall. 5" wide, and about 15/16" thick from bottom to the surface of the printing area. One is even depicting a wrecked car. They are in pretty nice condition. I will ship them in a small flat rate box for $7.50 insured. See my other auctions for all kinds of weird junk! Please ask before the auction ends if you have ANY questions! VINTAGE HAMILTON WOODEN PRINTER'S TYPE DRAWER TRAY This is a neat old printer's type drawer. It has multi-shaped compartments. I have included a photo of a manufacturer's mark that is stamped in the tray. It is The Hamilton Mfg Co Two Rivers. Wis. Also stamped in the tray is New Departure Patented. The tray has a steel handle stamped HAMILTON and a cutout slot that identifies what font of type the drawer held. The drawer is very nice condition with a wood back. I have not done any cleaning on the drawer. I am listing three of these identical drawers. They are all in similar condition. Very Old Wooden (bottom, sides, dividers all wood) Printers Type Drawer Signed
Printer Type Drawer made entirely of wood. It is very sound for it's age which I believe to be about 150 years old based on the names written on the bottom of the box and the stenciling which is barely legible. The Names Downey& Brouse Indianapolis are written on the bottom which can be seen in photo#2. There is a reference to Captain Charles Brouse supervising the printing of documents for the Grand Old Army of the Republic in 1866. The firm of Downey and Brouse had ceased operations by 1887 according to a reference by Major Oliver M. Wilson. The inside of the drawer appears to have had a liner of paper all across the bottom beneath the drawer dividers which is in rough shape. The drawer does show some evidence of moisture contamination. Here's a unique antique printer's type tray or drawer that would make a nice addition to an industrial or primitive antique decor. Use it as is or use it as a"shadowbox" to display small treasures. Miniatures and/or photos. It has strips of copper(or. Possibly brass) trimming the top of the horizontal-running dividers. This trim has a really nicely aged patina. The color of the metal and the fact that there are spots of green-colored oxidation on it lead me to believe that it is copper. The edge of the tray/drawer where the handle is located is covered in painted metal(as is the handle) The handle was designed so that a card/sturdy paper can be slid into it. I do not find a manufacturer's name or any other identifying information on it. This great piece of American printing history was used to store wood letters to be inked and pressed onto paper. This particular box probable dates from the 30s. It measures 32" x 16.6" These have all kinds of upcycle uses including as a coffee table with a glass top and legs. Lined with velvet for jewelry/earring holder. Mounted display for small collectibles like seashell, rocks, netsukes, cork board filled with wine corks, thread bobbin holder, etc. etc. Nice aged patina. Vintage Hamilton Mfg wood printers type set drawer
A truly unique piece of history. An original wood printers type set drawer from the patented brand"New Departure" Polhemus cabinet manufactured by The Hamilton Mfg Co in approximately 1896. This drawer is in excellent condition and is approximately 21 1/2 inches X 21 3/4 inches. It has 110 individual compartments. It has two stamped engravings on it which are somewhat hard to distinguish on the picture. The first says"New Departure Patented" and the second says"Two Rivers Wis" and underneath is very hard to make out with my eyes but something to the effect of"The? This may or may not be a Hamilton; I don't know what the two H's and the rest of the engraving on the metal handle indicate. Used in a print shop to store type set for printing. If is is in fact a Hamilton tray. That company was founded in 1880 by James Edward Hamilton of Two Rivers Wisconsin. If it's not Hamilton, I would guess that it is of the same era. Great for displaying many types of small. Interesting collectibles. Also can be used as a table top with clear glass covering the tray. SIZE: Approx: 23" by 12 1/4" and 1 1/2" high. Old Wooden PRINTER's TYPE SET Drawer. With METAL(Tin? dividers, that are fitted into thin grooves in the wood. THIS IS ORIGINAL. I have seen a few like this, but not many. This is a very unusual structure for printer's drawers. Wooden frame is thick wood. You can take out the thin metal shelves. But most are quite tight, and you may have to really tug to get them out. With a little effort, you can re-arrange them. Some are missing on the one end. No name that I can see. This drawer has a lovely historic look and would make a great shadowbox to display any collection of small items. It's attractive smaller size makes it easy to find wall space for. Measures 11-5/16" x 16-5/8" x 1-1/2" Imprinted on the wooden frame is: The Hamilton Mfg. Co. Two Rivers. Wis. Overall good condition. Front of drawer is painted dark green. With no handle. Remainder is unpainted wood. Dividers in nice shape. Veneer that was on base of compartments is largely missing but the plain wood makes a fine background. See pictures for details. This is a Genuine Hamilton Antique Type Setting Tray. It was used to hold typesetting metal letters by newspaper companies. It is a great"shelf" now for small knick knacks!
