Antique Victorian Paper Mache Tray Decorated with Mother of Pearl

It has Mother of Pearl decoration in the center surrounded by Gold stencils. The Gold is worn at the edges and the aged finish is tight with small marks and scuffs. There is a 1 ½ in. chip at one corner and a ½ in. chip at one tip. Fortunately these are most visible from the back(see photos) The back has the remnant of an old tag. Vintage Tole Tray c1920s Papier Paper Mache Florentine Gold Floral
My grandmother had these. She got them for her wedding in the 1920s. I learned, as a young girl trying to be helpful, that you never, ever washed them in a sink filled with warm soapy water. Boy, did I learn. This tray. While not my grandmother's, appears to be of the same vintage. It's in relatively good shape with a small dark mark on the front(see photo number 4) a space on a corner where someone used a gold enamel pen to try to fill in some missing design, and a crack on the back measuring approximately one inch long. The crack does not go through to the front. Some of the edges show some chipping as well although they aren't visible until you are actually holding the tray. In all this is a great representation of tole trays from that era and in good shape considering its age. The paper is in a typical Florentine design. With ... morea micro-dotted background, swirls and flourishes with gold leaf, and tiny red flowers. The tray measures 12.25" long by 10.75" wide. Vintage ornate paper mache gold gilt toleware tray or tole serving platter with label on the back. Measures 17 1/2" wide from handle edge to opposite handle edge by 11 3/4" Made in Italy. Antique 19th English Regency Paper Papier Mache Tole Mother of Pearl MOP Basket
DESCRIPTION: Antique early 19th century English Regency Papier Mache Tole Cake Basket with Mother of Pearl Inlay. Gilt brass handle. Not bronze. I love the scalloped rim on this and the mother of pearl inlay is over-the-top. Measures about#11 across. Comes from a local Dallas estate, guaranteed antique English Regency made before 1850 and not any type of reproduction piece and check out the pics and know that you won't be disappointed. It's a wonderful old vintage papier mache basket done with soft blue and a pink bow against a natural background. It's so shabby sweet. It was used at one point to hold a planter in. Hence the little bit of dirt on the inside. Very little damage. No major cracks or issues. Measures approx 10.5' wide x approx 8" tall. A fabulous and unusual ... morepiece!
