Vintage Brass Tole Shade Bouillotte Candle Holder Lamp NR Metal Shade Americana
Up for bid is this great bouillotte style candle holder. This candle holder lamp is in the classic design of the type of lamp used to provide light during night-time games of Bouillotte. A card and counter gambling game popular in France from the late 18th century well into the 19th century. The lamps featured a dish-shaped base designed to hold counters(chips) They also had a moveable metal or tole shade attached to a central shaft by a key. The adjustable shade allowed the game players to shield their eyes from the candle flame. Bouillotte lamps were, and are, a highly versatile form of lighting! This appears to be a vintage lamp in good, used condition with common tarnish and wear to the brass. The base has four knob shaped feet and two candle holders. There are no scratches that I could see. The tole shade is on a central shaft and easily ... moremoves up or down by loosening the key. For your consideration is a 3 piece set of vintage Italy hand painted metal candle holders. All hold taper candles. The middle one is in the shape of a lotus or magnolia flower and measures 7" in diameter and is 4" tall then there are 2 candlesticks that are 10" tall. 5" wide with a base that is 3 3/4" in diameter. Measures 8.5" tall and 10" total width sits on a 6.75" scalloped metal base. I believe this once had a glass hurricane shade with it. As there are brackets on the base that would hold it in place.
