Peter OMPIR FIDDLER MAN Tin Round TOLE HANDPAINTED Folk Art
This is a very nice example of PETER OMPIR'S works. During his lifetime Peter Ompir was at his height in the 1970's. Ompir's work soon generated a great demand for more. And his pieces were selling in Macy's, Neiman-Marcus, Sloan's of New York, Magnin's, and Meier& Frank. In the 1970's Peter's treasures were proudly offered for sale by Harry& Velma Visse at their Corner House gift shop in Portland, Oregon. This piece measures about 12 3/8" across and 2' deep. The patina is lovely and I believe that the subject, the'Fiddler" is somewhat unusual. I love the detail of the shading and composition. There is overall small chipping in the paint all the way around the rim. I personally don't think it takes away from the Folk Art of the piece. As I have pictured, it is signed on the back ... moreby the artist, PETER OMIPR. Which by the way, means'Peter the Great' which he was as an artist. Vintage Handpainted Tole Wastebasket - Cylinder w/ Pierced Edge
This is a very nice vintage. Handpainted tole or toleware wastebasket with roses and a blue ribbon. I like it because it's a cylinder as opposed to the more common oblong ones. The waste basket is about 13 inches tall and about 8 inches in diameter. It has a deep pierced top edge. There is some wear to the back bottom of the can, it's there but not tremendously serious. I can't precisely date the basket, but feel certain it is vintage. The inside of the basket is clean. This is a great old tray. I have not tried to clean it as I am not sure the best way. The main color of the tray looks like a dark green color. The paints looks great. This very old tole tray is one of their favorite things and they paid a lot for it. They are a little unsure of its history and are still searching for the paper work. Apparently out of Greencastle PA(see photo of sticker on the reverse) They remember that the auction was the estate of the owner of a drugstore in Greencastle. It was reported to be early 1800's. Perhaps those that are experts in these things can tell by the rolled over edges on the handle cut-outs.The tray is HUGE! Size is about 28" by 20" The lovely handpainting is more of a European style than the simpler tole designs more often seen that involve simple brush strokes ... moreto form a design element. The tray was difficult to photograph because of glare and reflection. Of course there is general light wear and some corrosion. But it is beautiful and really in great condition for it's age. I don't see any obvious restorations. But am no expert in toleware painting. MD buyer pays 6% sales tax. Please pay by PAYPAL. International shipping determined by location. SET OF THREE(3) VINTAGE METAL TOLE TRAYS. Beautifully hand painted flowers on a mint green background. The flowers are pink. Mauve and cream with green leaves as backdrop. The one(1) large tray measures 18" x 12" and the two(2) smaller trays measure 12" x 8. These trays have a 1" lip around the edge which is edged with gold paint. Overall. The smaller trays are in good vintage condition with a few small surface scratches and imperfections as noted in photos. The larger tray has more discoloration and the bottom has more scratches(also variations in the shine) These would make a lovely addition to your collection or to hang on the wall. The tray has been in handpainted and has a strawberry vine around the inner fram of the tray in gold. The inside of the tray has a rought patch on one side that when you look closely appears to have rusted underneath the tray. The bottom. Lovely Vintage Handpainted Floral Fruit Tole Tray 16 1/2"
You are bidding on a vintage handpainted tole tray with a fruit cluster embellished with flowers. Estimated to have originated around the 1940s. Tray is rectangular and has turned up sides with dainty handle cutouts on the ends. Tray is dark green with a gilted gold edging around the top edge. Pics nicely represent the actual colors of the fruit and flowers; artist used darker tones. Topside has some paint loss and evidence of rust. Measures 16 1/2" by 12 1/2" 1 3/4" deep. No dents or dings; has maintained its original contours. Some surface scratches mostly evident on the backside. Tray has good weight. This piece has very nice display appeal.
