1930s - 1950s Marbro Italy Antique Gold Gilt Swag wall decor
Typical of this era Italian antique gold painted wood wall art gilt vines with rose blossoms and buds. The largest just hinting at mid summer red muted with the darker gold coating. This one has somewhat of a twist from the usual in that it is built on a carved wood base with the center lattice work panes, evoking the trellis supporting the rose vines. Paper label mark: MARBRO ITALY No 2501" Also stamped on the back: ITALY We do not know precisely how this piece mounted on the wall in its original location. Instead of a loop to hook it to a wall bracket there is a notch in the wood base where the piece was supported on some kind of tab. May have been a center attraction in a larger assemblage. Vintage Italian Gold Gilt Florentine Wood Wall Plaque Double-oval Children Art
Here's an old Florentine gold-gilt double oval wood plaque with some nice vintage pictures of children playing on it. As you can see. It's not perfect, but in pretty good shape considering this is one of the old ones. There are a few scratches on the paint(please see all pics) but not bad and it still displays very well. This plaque measures a little over 11 1/4" long and is almost 5 1/4" wide. It's 3/8" thick. It has a hanger on the back. You can see the age of the piece by looking on the back. From a Main Line Philadelphia estate is offered a nice vintage pair of petite wall shelves or brackets. Made of wood and gilded with gold. There is a left and a right. So a true pair. The most forward surfaces have bight gold gilding that looks to be water gilding. The rest is simply gold paint as are the tops. These are very ornate or rococo in style. Lots of curls and flourishes. A piece is missing from one. And there is paint or gilding loss to both. These are delicate light weight wood and usually show some breaks and crack with age. They are 6" wide at the back and 3" deep int he center. 5 3/4" long small hanging hook on the backs. They were hanging with small topiaries in ceramic jars on them when purchases at the estate sale. This auction features a pair of small Italian CHERUB/CUPID carved wood/gesso wall plaques and a matching towel holder. There is some loss of gilt on all pieces. But primarily on the Cherub towel holder which looks like he is blushing as there is more reddish paint on the face. It maybe was made that way as the reddish paint looks to be on top of the gold/gilt. All are in great vintage condition. They are most likely from the 1960s. The cherub towel holder is 5" long(the cherub part is 3 1/4 x 3 1/4" Each of the small wall plaques is about 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" Both have there original triangular hooks on the back. The mirror m easures approximately 19 1/2 inches long by 12 3/4 inches wide. It's in good condition for it's age with light scratches on the mirror and a chip(see photos) There's also some gold paint loss. The wood may of cracked on the lower right hand side. But it didn't go all the way through to the other side. All in all it's a nice vintage piece with lovely patina. The Wall Shelf measures approximately 19 1/2 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide.
