Vintage Style Painted Italian Florentine Jewelry Box Gilt Gold and Green
Up for auction is a painted vintage style Italian Florentine jewelry box. I'm not sure if it is vintage or a reproduction because it looks new inside. Perhaps it was never used. It is all wood and painted in gold and green has black accents on drawers and top has red and yellow tulip like flowers along with other design.Measures approx 6" long, 2" tall and 4 1/8"deep at base. Shabby Italian Florentine Vintage Tole Wood Romantic Couple Jewelry Trinket Box
This lovely antique Florentine trinket box has been in the family for many years. It was a gift to my great aunt when she moved to New York from Italy. It is in excellent. Clean condition for its age. The technique used to make this box is more laborious than others you might find today. The wood box is prepared. A layer of gesso is brused on and a layer of deep red base paint. The red base paint is used to being out the rich color of the gold leaf. The raised designe is a glue gesso mix, a little thicker than Elmer's glue, and hand applied. Once dried a layer of tacky glue is brushed on and the gold leaf is then applied to that. Often a coat of wax is rubbed on, or tinted varnish, to protect the gold leaf and give it an antiqued look. I'm very fond of this piece. But it's time to downsize and this gem needs a new home. This is a NICE Vintage Hollywood Regency Italian Jewelry Box. It is in the"Bombey" form.It is NOT a"bombay company reproduction) It measures 7 5/8" tall. It measures 7 5/8" WIDE at the BACK. AND it measures 6 5/8" WIDE at the FRONT. Each of the sides have a Slight"Curve" to them. giving it the classic"Bombey" style. It has THREE DRAWERS.each drawer measures 5 3/16" wide by 3 1/4" deep.this is the outside dimensions.the INSIDE Dimensions are 4 5/8" wide by 2 5/8" deep in the middle AND 2 1/4" deep at each END.so the front of each drawer ALSO has a slight"Curve" to them. Each of the Knobs have"Chippy Paint" This Jewelry Box is embossed on the bottom reading"MADE IN ITALY" and it has an OLD Sticker on it with numbers.The BACK Is"Quilted" ... morejust like the Bottom is. This Vintage Italian Hollywood Regency Jewelry Box is NOT new.
